  1. So, beginning of the year. I remember him being hurt at some point.
  2. They should have probably been fairly mediocre this year, but they had a running back that put up Barry Sanders-esque numbers. But mostly, a very good offensive line and very good running backs. They've had pretty good QBs in the past too. Wilson has obviously turned out to be pretty good. Tolzien was nothing to scoff at while in college. Stave actually has decent numbers. Made some poor decisions this year, but they didn't really have much in the way of receivers. Their QBs aren't often elite, but they're typically at least decent, if not better. I remember Wilson and Tolzien and even further back to Sorgi but it seems like the Badgers, for the most part, only have QB's who's job it is to hand the ball off and try not to throw interceptions. You would think a program of this stature should be able to recruit a QB every once in a while who can actually lead an offense and be a top flight QB.
  3. I would say the Cubs have more quantity in terms of hitting prospects, rather than quality. Their pitching is also probably better but only in terms of depth. Lester is comparable to Sheets and then they have a bunch of middle of the rotation guys who were better then the Brewers bottom feeders like Dave Bush, Doug Davis, and Wes Obermueller. The question is will they have the same luck the Brewers had with their prospects turning into quality major leaguers. Fielder, Hardy, Hart, Braun, and Weeks all became solid major league starters - at worst. That sort of success rate rarely happens and even rarer all at one time.
  4. Didn't Bradley get hurt at the end of last year?
  5. Somewhat off topic but... I pay slightly less than zero attention to the Badgers, or college sports in general, but how is it that the Badgers can have a rather successful program in a major conference but never have a decent QB?
  6. I know there's a TV thread floating around somewhere but I couldn't find it. While it may not have been the best, this season of South Park was by far my favorite. Each episode built off of the last and carried through all the way to the end. It wasn't just a bunch of non-sequiturs and political satires thrown together.
  7. Isn't that almost what we gave Garza? Personally i'd rather have Matt, as much as he frustrates me. I had to look it up because I thought Garza was only $10M a season but it's actually $12.5. He got 4yrs/$50 with a $13M option. I could go either way between those 2. Garza is probably the better pitcher (but not by much) but Santana has a better record of health.
  8. Heaven forbid a school have high standards for the students it accepts, regardless of their athletic talent.
  9. Branyan. I never personally witnessed Branyan play, so Reynolds is still tops in my eyes. Literally.
  10. http://www.mlbtraderumors.com/2014/12/twins-nearing-deal-with-ervin-santana.html I think they tried to get him last year too. To us Brewer fans, that sure seems like a lot but this is what above average pitching costs these days.
  11. Three of the most active teams: Los Angeles, San Diego, and Arizona all have new GM's. That might have something to do with it.
  12. One thing I will say about Reynolds is that I have never personally witnessed someone who hits the ball as hard as he does. The few times I actually saw him make contact at the games I went to, they were laser beams.
  13. Porcello, Masterson and Wade Miley. They'll go with Kelly and Buchholz. It's a solid rotation - nothing great, but solid. Boston has a few nice arms at AAA (Owens, Ranaudo, Rodriguez) who could potentially help during the season and take a slot or two in 2016. For Boston, I like how they kept their top young players such as Betts and Swihart, and avoided burdening themselves with long term deals for average talent. At this time, Gallardo and Lohse aren't really options. Boston got a bunch of similar types on their roster. Talent-wise, that rotation doesn't look all that much different than the Brewers. Porcello may be better than anything Milwaukee has but we'll see if he can put together back-to-back solid seasons. I think it has more upside, but that's about it.
  14. http://www.mlbtraderumors.com/2014/12/cardinals-to-sign-mark-reynolds.html No terms yet. I think we can pencil him in for 5 or 6 bombs against the Brewers this year.
  15. http://www.mlbtraderumors.com/2014/12/red-sox-to-sign-justin-masterson.html 1 year, $9M They now have too many SP. The even slim chance of Gallardo or Lohse going there is now gone.
  16. I guess this is good news for the Brewers as it looks more and more likely they won't finish last in the division in 2015.
  17. Does Detroit have a SS now? Would they take Segura?
  18. http://www.mlbtraderumors.com/2014/12/royals-nearing-deal-with-kendrys-morales.html I have no idea how Boras could get any team to give him multiple years, especially at that price. I was guessing he would get 1 year and $5M at most.
  19. What is the average lifespan of a college football coach at a school - 3 years tops? Whatever it is it seems shorter than any of the pro's.
  20. Sox are also sending Alex Wilson and another minor league pitcher to Detroit.
  21. Both the Tigers and Marlins are close to acquiring a starting pitcher. The Marlins specifically are close to acquiring a pitcher with one year of control left. Any chance the Brewers are involved in either of these deals?
  22. Dee Gordon is turning 27 and just had his best season. Maybe they see that he is entering his prime and is going to be a cheaper option than a Kendrick who they would then have to shell out $15 mil plus for? And if this Heaney guy has now been traded by two teams, maybe he's not the can't miss prospect you seem to feel that he is? The Dodgers are paying Haren the $10M whether he plays or not and they are also paying Gordon this season. Haney was only acquired to be traded. The speculation was that he was going to Philly for Hamels but the Dodgers clearly had no intentions of actually keeping him and that has no bearing on his status as a prospect.
  23. http://www.mlbtraderumors.com/2014/12/dodgers-marlins-agree-to-trade-dee-gordon-andrew-heaney.html 2B Dee Gordon and RHP Dan Haren to Miami. LHP Andrew Haney, 2B Enrique Hernandez, RHP Chris Hatcher, and C Austin Barnes to Los Angeles. Interesting thing about this trade is that earlier this offseason Dan Haren said he would only play in Los Angles this year. Wonder if he is still going to stick to that?
  24. I think I remember reading that Kang said he would not sign with a team if he's going to sit the bench.
  25. The Cubs will be better than last year, that is almost a guarantee. How this will affect the Brewers is going to depend on how luck plays out next year: which team will be healthier, who's young players will improve, who's bullpen won't be a disaster? The Cardinals are still the class of the division with the Pirates a somewhat distant second. The Reds, Brewers, and Cubs will probably be bringing up the year. Of those 3, the Cubs are the team I see having the last chance of actually being in playoff contention come September.
