  1. This is so true of a lot of players. This week I was reading about what the Nationals should do now that they've signed Scherzer and I saw a few commentators suggest trading Strasburg because he's been such a disappointment. I wish the Brewers could produce some disappointing players like Strasburg. The only thing disappointing about him is that many were putting him in the Hall of Fame before he was even drafted and he only turned out to be a pitcher that would be most of the leagues #1 guy instead.
  2. Maybe he's actually going to play 1B. His career .665 OPS isn't that much lower than what Overbay (.661) and Reynolds (.681) did last year. Heck, in 2011 he OPS'd 1.032 in 34 PA.
  3. This is clearly payback for Willis unfairly stealing the rookie of the year from Podsednick. Willis will make the team and then only be used in mopup duty and get hammered into oblivion before he finally retires in shame. I like it.
  4. The draft spending limits keep teams from spending that much on draft picks but I doubt any team would seeing as draft picks can only negotiate with one team. These foreign players, whether considered international free agents or not, can negotiate with anyone and that drives the price up.
  5. Not sure what the desire is to have Smith as a starter. Yes, I'd rather get 200 innings out of a pitcher than 60 but Smith turns RHB into all stars as they have an .826 OPS against him in his career. And his numbers as a starter are pretty terrible too: 5.48 ERA, 1.623 WHIP, .861 OPS. If it comes down to the #7 starter getting a significant amount of innings, the season is almost certainly lost anyway.
  6. Please no to Kimbrell or Pap. That would be wasted money and prospects to acquire either of those guys. There's plenty of BP help out there without a team right now that could be had for a million or less.
  7. Knebel was shut down in July due to a UCL issue. I wish he could be counted on as a bullpen piece for 2015 but I think it's just as likely he'll be getting TJ at some point this season. This obviously was the "medical records" holdup and I would guess that it means the Brewers were ok with what they saw but they seem to have a somewhat sketchy history with pitchers injuries.
  8. I'm intrigued by the two pitchers but there is still nothing about Sardinas that excites me. I see him being non-tendered before he hits arbitration. A great glove can only take you so far. Overall, I'm glad that the Brewers at least got multiple prospects back and not just one guy.
  9. Such an unclassy move. I'd love to him do that against the Cardinals.
  10. Andrus' contract runs though 2022. He's got negative trade value at this point. You can put that one back in your butt. Does Melvin care about the 2022 Brewers? Or even the 2020 Brewers? I doubt it. For 2015 Andrus is probably an upgrade over Segura and can hold the position until Arcia is ready and with the trade it will cost the team basically zero dollars. When Arcia is ready Andrus can split time at SS and 2B and platoon with Scooter. I don't want it to happen but I don't have faith that Melvin will make a trade that is really going to help the future of the franchise.

  12. One thing we know about Melvin is that he doesn't makes a trade that doesn't include someone to contribute immediately (Greinke trade excluded). What keeps worrying me is that Gallardo and Andrus are paid the same. So I am just totally pulling this one out of my butt but I could see something like Gallardo and Segura for Andrus and a prospect.
  13. http://www.mlbtraderumors.com/2015/01/cubs-close-to-dexter-fowler-trade.html At least Dan Straily and Luis Valbuena going to Houston. That clears Chicago's infield depth a little but now they are bursting with outfielders.
  14. We have depth at SS/2B??? Segura was absolutely horrendous for most of last season, Scooter should not be facing a single pitch against LHP, and there are zero projectable backups anywhere in the system. A utility infielder like Sardinas is one of our biggest needs, and if he continues to develop he will quickly bump either one of Scooter/Segura out of the lineup. I hear this Arcia kid should be taking Segura's spot in no time and Scooter is an above average hitter when used correctly. It's not massive amounts of depth but it's depth nonetheless. And you don't take a 21 year old kid and put him on your bench to only play 1/5 of the time as a utility backup. Sardinas looks like Elvis Andrus 2.0. Can't walk, can't hit for power. I like the fact that he supposedly has a good glove because lord knows this organization can't draft or develop players who can actually play passable defense. Other than that, nothing about him excites me.
  15. Sardinas doesn't excite me at all. He plays positions where we actually have depth and someone who is young and cheap and at least major league quality right now. The minor league walk rate aint great and he has zero power. He is basically Scooter minus the little bit of power that Scooter has. Sardinas minor league career slash is .289/.336/.355 and here is Scooter's .297/.337/.409. I guess you could say that Sardinas is younger and might develop into a better hitter. Maybe his defense is great though, I haven't looked into that.
  16. Nelson and Gallardo basically project to be the same. By Zips they have an ERA 3.94 vs 3.95 and FIP of a 3.92 vs 3.98. The big issue is who the sixth starter then is. I have no clue who that would even be at this point assuming they aren't stretching out Smith (which would not be a terrible idea). [sarcasm]Johan Santana[/sarcasm] Thornburg might be an option but I would think they would find a veteran on a minor league deal that could come in and not totally suck. Here's just a few that are still out there: Scott Baker, Bruce Chen, Kevin Correia, Roberto Hernandez, Ryan Vogelsong.
  17. How can you say you don't like it without even knowing what they're getting back? Sure if they trade him for Aaron Poreda and Adam Rosales, that's an awful deal but if they got Joey Gallo and Alex Gonzalez (not happening but I'm making a point) then I'm not sure how anyone could not like the deal. Let me rephrase and say for this coming year, I don't like it. And that's because I'm pretty sure it'll be prospects and I see the drop-off from Gallardo to Nelson as substantial... for this year. I wanted to give it another shot this year + Lind. So I'm disappointed with the move. For this coming year. I don't believe we're getting some other great pitcher to take his place. Hope I'm wrong though. Replacing Gallardo with Nelson or a replacement level pitcher does not doom the 2015 season. Braun's thumb not being 100%, time catching up with Ramirez, and a bullpen of question marks does though.
  18. [sarcasm]They want more no-hitters.[/sarcasm] I would think the roof and guarantee of a game is why they would want to play in Miller Park.
  19. Maybe this has been covered already but with the pitch clock what is there to keep a batter from standing with one foot out of the box until the clock gets to 1 and then step into the box trying to get a ball called?
  20. The Jerichoholic Ninja of course. Whoops. Totally forgot I changed it last year. Now, it's Khris Davis from a photo shoot during spring training.
  21. http://www.mlbtraderumors.com/2015/01/giants-nori-aoki-agree-to-one-year-deal.html I had been advocating for Aoki and trading Parra in the rumors forum and if this is all it was going to take to get him I'm disappointed he's not in Milwaukee. I also see Parra is signed for $6.2MM. Signing Aoki and trading Parra would have saved almost $2M.
  22. BMI is completely worthless for determining anything. By BMI pretty much every pro athlete is overweight or obese.
  23. http://www.mlbtraderumors.com/2015/01/brewers-sign-martin-maldonado-to-two-year-deal.html Still has 2 more years of arbitration after this extension is over.
  24. In a vacuum, the Braves say yes as fast as they can. However, they are in more of a rebuild than going for it and I don't think adding only 2 years of Gomez would be all that appealing to them. For the Brewer..no and oh hell no. That would fill a minor hole and create a big one. Johnson is replacement level, if that, but not paid like it.
