  1. I believe a mutual option means both sides have to agree to it.
  2. In every interview since I've worked there I was asked why I left that place. I'm assuming they will ask me as well, and I'm not trying to be sarcastic, but are you saying I should lie instead of tell the truth that I was let go (because the CEO was using shady accounting practices to make the company look successful to investors until he ran out of money and was eventually sued by multiple people)?
  3. I have a phone interview with our Chamber of Commerce for a job tomorrow. I'm a little but nervous about them asking me about working for the place that refused to pay me - one of the many illegal/unethical things they did. I really have nothing good to say about my time there and especially about the owner himself but he's a Chamber member and has been promoting his new "business" through the Chamber lately and I don't want to speak ill of one of their members. I know it will come up because a lot of the things I would be doing for the Chamber I did at that job.
  4. http://www.mlbtraderumors.com/2014/12/royals-sign-kris-medlen.html 2 year deal, $8.5M guaranteed, mutual 2017 option for $10M. Seems like a good deal to me. Much better than the Morales deal. Of course it all depends on Kris recovering from his second TJ.
  5. I would assume that Martin gets a shot at being the LOOGY this spring and while Long's AAA numbers look decent he's 27 and is just minor league depth at this point. If Martin can get some control he might be something. Otherwise this is just a trade of "meh" for "meh".
  6. I'm not sure if this was supposed to be serious or sarcastic but it made me laugh because I was thinking the same thing.
  7. Kemp's medical records show he has arthritis in both hips and is currently holding the trade up.
  8. How can Turner be traded? He was just drafted last year.
  9. Tampa looks like they were going for quantity over quality. And what's with swapping Hanigan for Rivera? Rivera is a 30 year old catcher who just had a career year but has done nothing else and they made such a big deal about acquiring and extending Hanigan last season.
  10. Padres are apparently juggling a few 3- and 4-team trades and this could be a "very big deal". Seriously, someone needs to tell AJ Preller to put the phone down and breathe. This guy's making a career's worth of trades in a month.
  11. I'm thinking some team will cut a deal with the Dodgers before he is just free to sign with anyone. Why not throw a token minor leaguer at the Dodgers and have them throw in $8M-$8.5M of his salary. You get spin the Wilson roulette wheel at a gamble at $2M and the Dodgers get to save money over and above just cutting him loose. Good point. He wasn't released, he was DFA'd so he's not a free agent yet.
  12. This is one time I don't think it has to do with being an ex-Brewer. If we could sign Aoki for cheaper than Parra, which should happen, and then trade Parra for some bullpen help, we would be in a better position with the roster. That's what people are talking about. Pretty much this. Although I don't think Aoki would be cheaper than Parra. He'd probably cost a little more, a couple hundred thousand or a million. Aoki provides something this team doesn't have a whole lot of: OBP.
  13. According to MLBTradeRumors it is a "big deal" between San Diego and Tampa Bay. I'm not sure how the Nats fit into this though. If the Padres acquire Myers, they don't really have a need for Werth. Could the Padres be shipping out all of their top prospects to the two teams and getting Myers plus Zimmermann or Desmond from Washington? Is Longoria going to San Diego? Or maybe to Washington with Zimmerman going to 1B and Rendon staying at 2B?
  14. [sarcasm]Makes sense. "Let's not pay him $10M to play for us, let's instead pay him $10 not to play for us before we've even seen him throw a pitch in 2015." Boom! Financial flexibility![/sarcasm]
  15. Wilson is getting paid $10M by the Dodgers to not play for them. In most cases like this the player signs for the minimum, although in almost all of these cases it's also mid-season. Wilson at league minimum I'd take.
  16. Agreed, and have always felt the same way about Dave Matthews Band. I guess I just never "got it." Was forced to see them in concert once, almost fell asleep, and left half-way through. First time I've ever done that at a concert, movie, or sporting event. +1 I have a couple of friends who think Dave Matthews is God, I don't get it either... I find Dave Matthews tolerable in the sense that he was really popular when I was in grade school and I have a soft spot in my heart for the music of that time. That's about it though.
  17. Former big leaguer Hee-Seop Choi played 7 years in the KBO after leaving MLB. Choi slashed .282/.390/.483/.872 in KBO, Kang has slashed .298/.383/.504/.886. Not all that different. Choi slashed .240/.349/.437/.786 in his MLB career. Is that about what we can expect from Kang, maybe? A .786 OPS in MLB in 2014 would have put Kang 4th among short stops with significant playing time behind Tulo, Hanley Ramirez, and Danny Santana.
  18. I don't think that's a huge deal since he draws a fair bit of walks. His OBP is not boosted by a super high batting average. While .287 is probably on the higher side for today's game it's not ridiculously high and his single season averages have been .288, .286, .285. I don't think you can get any more consistent than that. I have no idea what kind of averages can be expected for speedy players on infield hits (in 2014 all MLB hitters batted .080 on balls hit in the infield but that includes your Ryan Howards and Molinas as well as Billy Hamiltons and Mike Trouts) but Carlos Gomez has a .149 batting average on balls hit in the infield vs. .131 for Aoki so it doesn't seem too out of line. I'll totally buy the argument that he isn't a CF but he wouldn't be a total disaster for a few innings or a game to rest Gomez.
  19. Does he make sense for the Brewers? He's got zero power, his slugging has dropped every year he's been in MLB, but his OBP last year would have been 3rd on the team and it's been within .007 every year of his career. He's been a better hitter than Parra throughout his career in OBP and OPS+. I would guess Parra is better defensively but I don't think he could be that much better. Aoki actually hits lefties better than righties (.776 OPS vs. 726) which would be a huge upgrade over Parra against lefties (.587 OPS). Personally, I would prefer Parra is traded and that money used on Aoki.
  20. I'm not sure what bad feelings there could be. The whole grievance thing was written into the contract when it was signed after he was drafted. All it shows is that Boras really overplayed his hand and almost lost.
  21. I'd love to see it happen even though $8M a year is a lot to risk for a guy who's only been dominating AA talent. I think the Brewers will make a bid similar to Aoki: it will be very low and Doug will be shocked if they win.
  22. I honestly didn't even notice that they were still "performing" at the handful of games I went to last year.
  23. Kang to be posted on Monday.
  24. Segura OPS by month for career 2012 Aug .489 Sep .785 2013 Apr .985 May .911 Jun .724 Jul .681 Aug .584 Sep .552 2014 Apr .621 May .673 Jun .533 Jul .489 Aug .626 Sep .753 I see a guy who put up a ridiculous start to 2013 and has been average to well below average since then. He may be young but his approach is absolutely terrible.
