  1. I wouldn't disagree that not platooning Scooter just to get him more PT is a bad idea but once he becomes an "established veteran" he's almost certainly going to have to be platooned anyway. If Scooter reaches the top of his ceiling, just based on the fact he's a lefty hitter, his vs lefty numbers are not going to be starter worthy.
  2. Craig is, pending Tavares taking over RF.
  3. If there is one thing I've learned from this season of fantasy football it's not to over think. In all my previous years I've played the safe route and put up some solid seasons and won a few championships. This season I got too cutesy and it cost me two very important games when going the safe route would have won. Having said all that I would go with Cutler. He's got great receivers and Philly made Matt Cassell put up Peyton Manning numbers last week. It will probably be a high scoring shootout. I would not be surprise if Collin had a better week, but I would also not be surprised if he had a bit of a dud because the game was a blowout. Cutler seems like the safest choice to me.
  4. If Juan is starting at first and Gennett at second, Weeks is the power off the bench. To outright release him in or around ST seems like a pretty stupid move for the club.
  5. I was fine with it when I saw that prices will go down for games that aren't selling well. Seems like it will get the thrifty fan (me) to the park more often while still making maximum money off the affluent fans.
  6. I'm not in favor of signing Morales either but let's say he is signed to a 1 or 2 year deal. I think the FO would be more willing to flip him at the deadline than they are Lohse. So he could, in theory, net something like the 1st round pick that will be lost. Still, doesn't mean I'm in favor of it.
  7. I hate Ron as much as the next guy buy Yuni's playing time was cut in Sept. Yuni started 10 games and got 52 PA, Halton started 11 games got 52 PA.
  8. Kentrail was the first round pick, not Khris, if that's what you were thinking.
  9. I just glanced over the rotoworld depth charts to see if there was a team that had an extra first baseman. Here are two I found. Adam Dunn - Dunn for Weeks was mentioned before. Doesn't really make sense for either team but Dunn would be an upgrade for us. Brett Wallace - A huge disappointment so far and Jonathan Singleton is ready so Houston might be looking to move Brett. I was surprised he's only 26, it seems like he's been around for quite a while. He's still not very good, though.
  10. I cost myself 3 wins this fantasy football season by making a last minute lineup change. That cost me the best record in the league and my first playoff game. It was at least a $60 flub.
  11. For comparison sake: Ike Davis 2010 - 115 OPS+, 3.3 WAR 2011 - 156, 1.2 (36 games) 2012 - 111, .9 2013 - 89, .2 Mitch Moreland 2010 - 118, .9 2011 - 93, 0 2012 - 106, .3 2013 - 98, .6 Justin Smoak 2010 - 82, -.1 2011 - 77, .8 2012 - 85, -.2 2013 - 113, 1.1 Prior to this I was very anti-Davis. Now, I've warmed to the idea. However, I do think he will cost the most which worries me.
  12. Do not like watching Christmas movies. Christmas vacation is funny but I have no desire to watch it. Also, I would be happy if I never see any part of A Christmas Story again. Ba humbug!
  13. I certainly concur, I would have given up more if necessary to get him. However why would Melvin trade for a young MLB ready 3B when he has Ramirez? That's way outside his MO... I've been posting for a handful of years about "proven veteraness" pushing us farther away from our goals in the long term and I hate that Melvin is not proving me wrong in any way, he's been completely predictable. I'm sure there's a heavy dose of MA in there as well... but regardless, yuck. At some point if we don't recycle the impact talent on the roster a complete rebuild is going to become necessary, not to mention we still lack young impact pitching to build a rotation around. Hypothetically Melvin traded Henderson for Davidson, it wouldn't guarantee him a spot on the 25 man roster. They could easily keep Davidson in AAA and play Ramirez and then trade him at the deadline.
  14. They hope to contend for the playoffs. Where have you seen anything from them to the contrary? Ramirez is good for 125 starts at 3B tops. Who would you rather have taking the other 35-40? Francisco who is terrible defensively wherever you put him and isn't the hitter Chavez is, or Taylor Green who hasn't played in over a year and at 27 is a stretch to be still called a "young guy"? Then there is this opening at 1B. True Chavez' experience there is limited, but this team tried numerous guys there last year who hadn't ever played there and who offensively weren't the hitter Chavez is. Chavez isn't long term but he could fill a platoon spot temporarily and buy a little time for Morris or even Rogers at AAA. If they don't contend, Chavez will make a nice piece for a team that does. Same as Jim Edmonds did several years ago. Ultimately, Edmonds brought them Chris Dickerson, who in turn brought them Sergio Mitre, who in turn was sold for cash to Yankees. Maybe I should have used the word "expect". Yes, I'm sure Doug and Mark "hope" to content but if either of them "expect" to contend they are delusional.
  15. I'm sure Henderson could get something of value due to his service time but the team isn't going to trade him because they won't have a "proven closer" then.
  16. There are not enough "no's" in the English language to express how I feel about acquiring Jimmy Rollins.
  17. If this team was looking for bench depth because they hoped to contend for the playoffs I would say sure. But since there are not he would have no purpose on this team other than keeping young guys from seeing the field.
  18. That article was hilarious. I don't think Reynolds would be that terrible to have on the team. He can split time between 1st and 3rd and soft platoon with Morris. For as bad as he's been the last few seasons his OPS+ has been right around 100. I can't imagine he'd be getting anything more than a minor league deal at this point anyway since the FA firstbase market is pretty much done.
  19. The offseason is far from over.
  20. Given that it is a minor league Rule 5, I'm expecting a uniform made up, locker space assigned and some light tossing. Maybe some batting practice. Garth Brooks will have done more in a training camp. I can't imagine the Seahawks would let him do anything more than have a few pictures taken of him in a Rangers uniform. What would have been fantastic would have been if the San Francisco Giants would have drafted him instead.
  21. It was the minor league Rule 5 draft. No 40 man spot required.
  22. This is a weird move by the Rays. They typically cycle cheap players through but then they give a long term contract to this guy?
  23. I don't think you can discount the fact that Braun wasn't only drafted as a IF, he played SS / 3B for the majority of his pre-Brewers career. So I don't think it is so far off base asking this question. Corey played 1B and other IF spots pre 2003. They asked him to play it in 2012. Almost 10 years since he had played it. Braun played 3B through 2007. So asking if he could play 1B isn't completely out of the question. IMO, RF / 1B are the easiest position to field. I think Ryan would do fine at first. We have plenty of guys who can play RF. I agree that Braun probably could play 1B. I am surprised at how bad of a 3B he was for being a SS at a D1 program.
  24. Don't worry. We have instant replay now to figure it all out!
  25. Corey was drafted as 1B and played there until Prince was drafted so it wasn't such a crazy idea to put him there after Gamel got hurt.
