    If he gets traded he's not bringing anything back worthwhile. The Dodgers are supposedly looking for a starter. Maybe Oakland or Baltimore or Pittsburgh will be interested but don't get excited about what's coming back.

    The problem wasn't the amount of money they spent, it was that it was spent foolishly. Beckett and Crawford were way overpaid and vastly underperformed. The Brewers breaking the bank for Greinke is no where close to the same situation as what the Red Sox are in right now.

    The game was originally moved because of the Republican convention. But it worked out well that a hurricane came through at the same tine.

    This may look bad to us lowly Midwest, small market folk but how did all those overpaid Yankee teams of the late 90's and early 2000's fair? If you have lots of money to spend and lots of money coming in why not do something ridiculous like this? If Dee Gordon becomes just an average shortstop the Dodgers really don't have any holes they need to fill for a few years.

    On MLB Network they just reported that Cherington is ready to blow the team up. Also, James Loney just taken out of the Dodgers lineup for tonight.

    According to both MLBtraderumors and MLB network a deal is imminent. Those 4 to LA for prospects and cash.

    I'm going to predict that Aoki will be the heated discussion next year as he fails to live up to his first season. I hope not but I could see it happening.

    I'm not sure if it was mentioned on TV at all last night but after a Brewer struck in the second or third inning, Vitters threw the ball into right field while they were throwing it around. I think the reason the throw was so bad was because Starlin had his head in the clouds and was staring off somewhere into center field and Josh didn't want to hit him with it. I wonder if he might have ADHD or something. It seems impossible for a professional ballplayer to do as many stupid things as he does.

    Just like the voters. Add in that he's having a good offensive season and there's no reason for him not to be considered.

    Has anybody actually run the numbers on the contact play or does everybody here just automatically assume that it costs the team runs? I think that the emotional reaction of getting a guy thrown out at home just drives people nuts so much that they try to avoid it at all costs even if it is a decent play by the numbers. People do realize that if the contact play is NOT on, a routine out will almost always be made at first, right? The only time I think it's a horrible play is when there is only a guy on third and nobody out. How many times has the contact play been on in that situation? I can't remember any, but I haven't watched a lot of games this year. If there is one out and just a guy on third, I don't really like the play, but I don't think it is horrendous depending on the runner and where the ball was hit. When there are 2 guys on base, the contact play is always the right play. If it doesn't work, no big deal, you still have 2 runners on base. But if it DOES work, you have a run, and if you happened to force a throw home, you have a run, you STILL have 2 guys on base, and you also have another out to work with in the inning. I would guess that it only needs to work somewhere around 5% of the time in order for it to be worth it in that scenario. You just don't lose very much when it doesn't work. A runner on third with one out or a runner on first with one out. Tell me which situation you would rather have.

    To be fair, off the bat I assumed that was over the pitcher but Ron should be fired simply for the contact play. He clearly has yet to learn anything about how to manage with a runner on third and less than two outs.

    Of all the reasons why Ron should be fired, number one is because of the number of base runners thrown out at home because of the contact play. I would be curious to know the number of times there's been a runner of third that's gotten out on a ball hit to the infield. It seems like it happens every other game.

    It was pretty much guaranteed he would be fired after the season was over anyway.

    Did he actually test positive for steroids though? I thought he had elevated levels of testosterone, the same thing Braun had. And our 1,000 page long thread about Braun proves high testosterone doesn't necessarily mean steroids.

    Is Castro really an "elite" shortstop or are we just assuming he's going to become one because he's so young? I don't think this a bad deal, especially for a team like the Cubs, but I don't think this is in any way a bargain.

    Children's Hospital is the most consistently good show on TV. Tonight's episodes was one of my favorite episodes of any show ever.
