  1. The Jays got Escorbar for Alex Gonzalez and Tyler Pastornicky. Weird. One short stop we have, one short stop a lot of posters want and one short stop some want. Yunel is an improvement over what we've got now and if he can be had for an inconsequential prospect or two I'd be for it.
  2. Jones signed a long term extension earlier this season and is locked in longer than Weeks and for more money.
  3. I came here just to ask has anyone coined the name John Trashford yet?
  4. Those 2 draft picks will be nice. I think everyone is way overreacting here. Until there is actual news about him being hurt this is almost a complete non-story.
  5. I don't have a limit. This organization has shown zero ability to develop pitching outside of Gallardo. The success of this franchise since Mark and Doug have taken over, last year aside, has been in spite of quality pitching. Signing Greinke gives you one of the best #1 and #2 starters in the league. It lessens your reliance on hoping Thornburg, Peralta, Fiers, etc. actually turn out and hopefully the payroll inflexibility keeps Doug from signing another Suppan, Wolf, or Gagne.
  6. Trade him. I think you could get more for Corey than Greinke. Corey can get the team that acquires him picks next year, Greinke cannot. He plays two positions of surplus for the Crew and can easily be replaced next year.
  7. Your odds of winning each round in the post season is 50:50, so why bother trying to get there anyway?
  8. If the rumors are true, no one wants to give up elite talent. If that is true I say ride out the season with him, and take the picks if he doesn't want to sign. Personally, I'm in the camp to give him a blank check. No one in the system projects as anything close to Greinke and the organization hasn't had any luck developing starting pitching outside of Gallardo.
  9. What if the Brewers signed him to an extension and paid him to not pitch for 2 years? There was no way the Brewers could or should have resigned him. Let's see if he even makes it through this season healthy.
  10. Source, please. I don't think any team seriously believes that but all you have to do is go to MLB Trade Rumors and any time Greinke's name is mentioned to the Yankees or Red Sox it is always followed by a comment about there is concern if he can handle playing in a large market. For example: "Zack Greinke doesn’t interest the Yankees, who are concerned about how players will adjust to playing in New York."
  11. Been trying to watch it for the last 15 minutes. My internet is so crappy it just loads without getting anywhere.
  12. Considering the nuclear disaster that has been the bullpen Ron better not be using him only in mop up duty.
  13. I was just told my position is being eliminated and I will be unemployed next Friday. Quite frankly, I'm glad to be leaving this job but I wish it was because I had another job lined up. When I started here in March I was looking forward to not having to deal with all the job search BS for the first time in 3 years...so much for that.
  14. I like how the small market mentality has now convinced some posters here that a player being paid what he is worth and performing at that level is now overpaid and an albatross contract.
  15. If the runner was forced to advance, which in your situation he was, no run scores.
  16. Gamel at third is just not going to happen. Trade Hart and leave Gamel at first.
  17. No, it really is. He's playing his best player in those positions and the previous poster was correct, it's a matter of lineup positioning. The other is playing time. So not really the same at all. Isn't putting one of the worst hitters on the team in a position that will give him the most at bats in a game putting a player in the wrong position?
  18. So let me get this straight? We rail on Melvin for lack of developing impact pitching and only focusing on offense and now when he has a chance to add a major prospect to the organization everyone wants hitting. Personally I think he should take the best package regardless of position, but I'm confused at what some people are looking for based off of the comments about Melvin in other threads.
  19. my understanding is that your draft budget reflects the number of picks you have in each of the first 10 rounds. so if you have 3 1st rd picks, 2 nd rd picks your budget will be higher than someone who has just one in each round. its determined by the slot money for each pick you have I hope that's true, otherwise you get screwed the more picks you have.
  20. Does the draft budget increase at all with another pick? If it doesn't this is stupid and probably hurts teams more than it helps.
  21. I would like to believe this is true but Izturis is hitting no where close to Ransom (or any respectable Major Leaguer for that matter) but still gets plenty of starts. I think Jeff will have to play above average to garner much playing time for Ronny.
  22. I would guess most posters here agree with the move, I do. Thornburg is going to get big league experience and keep his innings down. I think it's a guarantee that at least one of Marcum, Greinke, and Wolf is going to be traded and then he'll get his chance to start.
  23. I'm not sure why everyone is so excited. Like many have said, Jeff's not going to see the field much. Ransom and Izturis are the shortstops and will be until they both get hurt or traded/released.
  24. Can Ramirez even be traded in the first year of his contract? I thought there was a rule that players in the first year of a multi-year deal couldn't be traded.
