  1. I swore loudly at work when I saw he signed for another year. please rid us of your whiny, cheating, temper tantrum self now. [sarcasm]Come on now. He's one of the most respected players in baseball.[/sarcasm] Despite being in blue, that's true. Somehow.
  2. One could argue that the chip in the bat means it is no longer a "round stick". It makes sense to only try to only bring it up after he has a big hit. That could apply. However, the chipped part was on the end and not on the hitting surface. This bat and many other these days have cupped ends which certainly aren't smooth nor are they round. Just another one of those baseball rules that's devoid of specifics and left up to the judgement of the umpire. Joe West or Angel Hernandez probably would have called him out.
  3. The best part is Castellanos had apparently already given the bat to a kid, so the umps had to take it back to inspect it. The MLB.com story said they also did a replay review of the home run to see if there was something on the bat that helped aid the home run… which doesn’t seem to make much sense. Mike Shildt [and the entire Cardinals operation] is just weird. Question, what are the things that could have changed the outcome? What exactly were the umps/cards looking for? Is a cracked bat a thing in baseball? I have never heard of a cracked or broken bat being an illegal bat but if you saw the bat there was definitely something wrong with it. It was missing a chunk on the end. Apparently the umps removed it from the game for safety reasons. This was just the Cards being the Cards trying to get under the other team's skin and it didn't work at all. If you watch the whole situation David Bell and Castellanos are more confused than anything and borderline laughing. There's a shot of a player in the Red's dugout starring into the Cards dugout with a look of bewilderment on his face and then he throws his hand in their direction like "you guys are a bunch of turds."
  4. Apparently many of the players are over high school age. I think the "kids" think this is their chance to be seen and get a scholarship but even the sleaziest D1 football coach is looking at 20 year olds at a fake high school.

The MLB.com story said they also did a replay review of the home run to see if there was something on the bat that helped aid the home run… which doesn’t seem to make much sense. Mike Shildt [and the entire Cardinals operation] is just weird. The review was a rules check according to the broadcast to see if a cracked bat was legal. A piece of the cupped end was broke off and had been for a week or so according to the Reds announcers.
  6. The NCAA is a joke with it's handling of athletics and academics so it's no surprise that this has trickled down into high school.
  7. Cardinals had the umps check Castellanos bat after he hit a grandslam. Turds gonna turd.
  8. Maybe just a coincidence but Adames turned our offense from total crap to very good. Unless Rasmussen turns into Max Scherzer the trade is a push at worst for us.
  9. The loogy being outlawed probably was the biggest killer for QTC. I was near the bullpen at a SkySox game and overheard him chatting with his girlfriend/wife/something's family that he had gotten tickets to the game. Seemed like a totally humble and great guy.
  10. This is nowhere as bad as the magic loogie incident with Roger McDowell.
  11. They've got a sizable lead in the division and aren't likely to get the #1 seed, although I'd prefer to play the winner of the NL East over the winner of the wild card game anyway, so there's no reason to rush anyone back.
  12. Brian Jones is rolling over in his grave in disgust right now.
  13. And Escobar was/is getting significant planned time at 1B. I'm talking like what happened with Cruz. He played 1 game at 1B because they couldn't use the DH and the general reaction was "OMG how crazy is it that he played the field!" Just about any major leaguer can play any non-catcher position for 1 game. I mean Kris Bryant never played a position other than 3B before getting called up and then Joe Maddon plays him in all 3 OF spots and 1B.
  14. I'll never understand why fans and organizations freak out over the idea of a player playing a position he's never played before for 1 game or even just a few innings. These guys are professional athletes who have been playing baseball their whole lives. They'll be fine and the negative impact they can have on a game is so minimal unless something totally unusual happens it's not worth the worry. Especially a guy like Cruz. His bat makes up for his lack of defensive issues. Now I'm not talking put him in the field everyday but if you need him to wear a glove 1 or 2 days a week his play will be fine.
  15. Didn't he just come off the COVID list? Could be he's not back to 100% or just the layoff itself messed him up.
  16. For arguments sake, let's just say this was 100% Zavala's fault. Was that the best way to handle the situation? Absolutely not. If a guy doesn't hustle or hot dogs on a play that costs your team, sure, go off on him. But the way Anthony treated him certainly didn't fit with what happened. I think the fact he just ignored Lynn, the guy who actually threw the pitch, while he berated the catcher makes it worse. If he was that upset about it both pitch and catcher should have been involved in the "discussion".
  17. So you are saying it is like WCW back in da day? Sort of, but AEW is building their own stars as well and Vince doesn't have a clue what he's doing anymore.
  18. Tony La Russa undressed another young player in his dugout again a few days ago, his catcher. Apparently over pitch selection. Ignoring that the pitcher, Lance Lynn, completely missed his spots. Also ignoring Lynn who walked right by during the tongue lashing and should have bore at least some of the blame. Maybe they can get through this year with Drunky McPlunksalot in the dugout but as soon as that team faces a slump I think it's a good bet they quit on him quick.
  19. It's about that time where these guys are going to start dying. Those that are left from the Beatles, Who, Stones, Zeppelin, etc. won't be around much longer.
  20. Finally got around to watching Punk's return. I stopped watching wrestling around 2012 just because my life got crazy busy so I haven't been following WWE's dive into sub-mediocrity very closely. From the bits and pieces I do see though, it's crap now. I love AEW. It's gotten me back into wrestling. I love seeing the guys I used to watch and the guys that are new to me. I love the subtle digs they take at WWE but I really wish that everyone that was in WWE at some point prior would quit with the whole "the other place sucks that's why I'm here" schtick. I'm sure it's true but it just gets annoying to hear it constantly.
  21. A 66 OPS+ over his last 650+ PA's is beyond terrible. He has no business being on our major league roster right now or any time in the foreseeable future.
  22. Every team in baseball has had multiple chances to claim him or give him a major league deal over the last almost year and no one has. There's probably a good reason for that.
  23. I hope that's a tongue in cheek comment. Any A-baller could duplicate what Shaw did this year.
  24. Minor league signing so whatever but where would he even play in the majors? He's 6th at best on the OF depth chart right now. It would take a lot of bad things happening for him to even sniff the big leagues. You would think he could have found somewhere where he'd have a better chance at getting called up.
