  1. I don't know what the right answer is but better stats doesn't necessarily mean better for the team when it comes to relievers. It seems like there have been some situations where Hader could or should have come in the 8th or 7th but didn't and whoever was in blew the game and Hader never even got to pitch.
  2. They are an absolute joke of an organization. I would really hate being a fan of that team despite their success over the years. Is this probably all that much worse than what other teams are feeding their minor leaguers? I'm pretty sure your standard meal is left over hot dogs or PB&J. For all the fuss about how little these guys make the one thing MLB teams should be doing is providing them with good nutrition. I'm sure that would cost a minuscule fraction of what a pay raise for everyone would cost.
  3. Not sure why we should even care if Shaw accepts an assignment. Any 4A, DFA-riding, waiver wire player could duplicate his production. Losing him is no loss at all.
  4. Maybe so people continue to shell out money for ballpark food? With what I've experienced now, I will make sure to eat before or after a game and never buy the ballpark food. I don't care about the money aspect of it, price increases don't matter to me if the food is decent. I think you're in the minority of people who will stop buying it. I don't think a slight drop off in quality of what was already un-quality food is going to change that. Most people get it for the "ballpark experience" or because they prefer to not bring in their own food for whatever reason and won't change their habits even though it's incredibly overpriced and generally terrible. I mean people still pay for $20 beer or whatever they charge nowadays.
  5. Why should they try to make it better when people are willing to shell out the money for crap? Not that I agree with it but I understand it.
  6. "Leaders" and the media had to drive a wedge between people over quarantining or not last spring, then wearing masks or not, then getting the vaccine or not, so it only makes sense they had to find something else to make people hate each other over.
  7. I'm sure every team has either used or attempted to create some sort of sign stealing system. We might as well allow it at this point since 1. Everyone's doing it and 2. the majority of MLB can't hit at all right now.
  8. The Yankees had an outbreak of COVID positive, fully vaccinated coaches. Lots of fully vaccinated MLB players are testing positive. It may be rare but there certainly are enough instances just in MLB to prove that it is happening.
  9. There is no way that is true. What we have now is technology that analyzes every pitch so you can clearly see if a ball is an inch outside or not. I can assure you if you watch an old game from 20+ years ago you will see balls 6 inches or more off the plate called strikes but you didn't have strikezone box over homeplate on the telecast so you just kind of eyeballed it and said it is what it is. Just had this arguement with a guy I know from work. He thinks the umps are just worse today, I pointed out exactly what you just said. I don't believe the umps are worse, in fact, if you compared todays umps with umps from 20 years ago, I'd venture to say they are probably a lot better just because they don't want to look bad with today's technology. I think these guys are doing the best they humanly can, but technology continues to show their flaws. Umps of a previous generation changed the zone based on who the pitcher was or who the batter was. I have no doubt that umpires today are more consistent and accurate than umps of yore but one blown call totally changes the complexion of an at bat and a possibly a game. I have no problem with them being a coin flip half to one inch around the zone. The batters need to swing the darn bat. Don't let the ump decide an at bat. But umpires all calling pitches that are inches off the plate strikes and dead center balls. It's amazing some of the pitches I see these guys miss.
  10. I trade a non-elite reliever for an everyday player every day of the week, and twice on Tuesday if I could.
  11. Okay, hear me out. What If a team took all their players and stuck them directly in front of home in a way that the batter has absolutely no way to see the pitch coming. Give each other piggyback rides to get higher than the batters eyes and block the pitcher from view. This by definition is not against the rules, is it not? I would keep this trick play in my back pocket until the biggest moment of the year. 3 outs from the world series win I am deploying this strategy stunning the entire sports world. Fielders cannot make unusual movements to distract a hitter. That is also a rule and would take care of that. Someone got called for that last year or the year before.
  12. Pretty sure that would go against medical ethics and is probably illegal anyway.
  13. So the people who have been refusing to wear masks and are now refusing the vaccine are being incentivized by the government to get the shot by telling them they don't have to wear a mask if they get the shot. Sounds about right for government work.
  14. Derail ahead warning, but you got me thinking who exactly has Stearns acquired of all the great pitching we've had. Of the current team, Freddy Peralta is it. Woodruff, Houser, and Hader were all part of the organization when he was hired. Burnes was part of his first draft but i don't know how much you can credit Stearns for the pick. He's certainly made some short term acquisitions that have worked out well with Miley, Lyles, Pomeranz but the core of the pitching was already in the organization before he was got here.
  15. Is there any batted ball data on how many hits shifting is taking away? I've seen that batting average and BABIP are continually getting lower but what about where the balls are actually being hit. I will never be in favor of banning shifts but I'd be curious to see that data.
  16. I see your point and I guess I'm not suggesting we eliminate them completely. But the case you are talking about is extreme. Most ejections come from a couple words, a thrown bat, some other version of petty crap. The whole going on and on for 2-3 minutes usually happens after a player or manager gets tossed. And how often do you see umps follow a pissed off hitter to the dugout just hoping he'll say the wrong thing? These guys have too much power and I'm sick of it. I like the idea of a warning system. I also like the idea of each warning coming with a small fine that gets donated by the league to charity. That's just so much better than having a star player get ejected in the 4th inning for telling the ump he's wrong, especially considering a fair amount of the time the ump is in fact wrong in those cases. After watching several of Jomboy's lip reading breakdowns it's amazing how many ejections happen after an umpire escalates the situation.
  17. Brewers haven't had an overall competent shortstop since JJ Hardy. They also haven't had an overall competent 1B since Fielder. Amazing how terribly they've addressed those two positions for over a decade.
  18. Seconded. "Big mistake," La Russa said Tuesday. "The fact that he's a rookie, and excited, helps explain why he just was clueless. But now he's got a clue." "There will be a consequence he has to endure here within our family," the manager said. "It's a learning experience." He didn't pimp it. Didn't hot dog it. Just shut up and let the kids play.
  19. I like them. They have elements of traditional baseball uniforms with a modern touch. It's a lot better looking than most of these types of things when they seem to try to make them as hideous as possible simply for the sake of being different.
  20. Brewers rank in runs per game the last 6 years 2021 - 26 2020 - 27 2019 - 17 2018 - 12 2017 - 21 2016 - 25 I think it is more than fair to question Stearns ability to build an offense. Outside of Yelich, what has he really done to help the offense? Grandal was great for the one year he was here and there's been a couple lightning in a bottle moments like Gyorko but otherwise every offseason he acquires handfuls of the same light hitting utility player who unfortunately wind up getting massive amounts of AB's.
  21. MLB is now handing out suspensions for "inciting the benches to clear". I guess I don't have a problem with that as last as they are consistent but I doubt they will be. Yadi should have been suspended twice already this year and probably should be just about every other week but I'm sure he never will.
  22. I don't think you can blame the coach. Angel called out. No matter how much you think that was the wrong call you have to play it as the umpire calls it.
  23. I thought David Weathers for sure but it looks like he was claimed off waivers twice...11 years apart.
  24. I can't believe it was possible to make a worse call than the obstruction call against Godley. MLB umpires continue to prove me wrong.
