  1. looks like a great move by the Braves..... Infante is coming off a career year but doesn't offer any power & doesn't steal bases.....Dunn is a young loogy with power stuff (97) but he was stuck behind Venters & O'Flaherty.... Only 2 questions from the Braves perspective: 1) Uggla is only signed thru 2011 so there's some risk for trading for him without a signed extension, and 2) what position will be play? 2B with Prado playing LF or 3B & sometimes 1B ..... or will Prado stay at 2B with Uggla moving to LF (Chipper is coming back at 3B) ...Prado plays an excellent 2B & I'd hate to see him move to another position Braves lineup looks much stronger & they keep their strong pitching staff intact....and keep their best prospects for yet another deal for a CF or LF
  2. my TV's "mute" button says thank Godhttp://forum.brewerfan.net/images/smilies/smile.gif
  3. Lee & LaRoche are both gold glove-quality 1B who would save tons of errors, which would mask some of McGahee & Weeks defensive deficiencies .... on the other hand moving a Gamel or Hart to 1B would likely result in no better defense than we saw from Fielder..... Lee was playing with a bad shoulder which hurt his power numbers..... need assurance that he's healthy ....LaRoche is the definition of a streak hitter; he always starts ultra-slow in April & into May but rebounds strongly after the all-star break ....LaRoche also strikes out a ton which doesn't fit in a lineup that already struggles manufacturing runs
  4. I'm sure the Giants would be more than willing to trade a southpaw starter.......Zito ! haha they'd be foolish to trade Bumgarner or Wheeler for a rent-a-bat
  5. getting back on point: NEXT MANAGER ....the conventional wisdom is that you want to hire a manager who's on his 2nd MLB manager opportunity.....for example Charlie Manuel was a bozo for the Indians before becoming the Phillies manager ....another example is Terry Francona who's 2nd job was with the Red Sox after failing in his 1st try as a MLB manager thoughts?
  6. My, how times change....the Braves operate with a $85mm budget which is smaller than the Brewers!
  7. from the Atlanta Journal Constitution
  8. 1. Yankees 2. Cubs 3. White Sox 4. Red Sox 5. LaRussa
  9. Braves, Padres, Reds & Philthies Rangers, Twins, Rays & Yanks Braves over the Rangers.....Bobby gets thrown out of game #7 but still gets the Championship ....the "four letter network" is besides themselves so instead of publicizing the WS they show a week's worth of Yankees-Red Sox highlights interrupted by only analysis of projected Yankees/Red Sox offseason moves & the annointment of LaRussa as the Pope of MLBhttp://forum.brewerfan.net/images/smilies/wink.gif
  10. the Cardinals pitching staff is built around throwing ground balls.....therefore this move makes sense because it strengthen's there defense ...they've allowed 45 unearned runs to-date, the most of the NL playoff contenders......btw the Brewers have allowed a whopping 60 unearned runs; the defense MUST improve next year BTW ....I hate LaRussa with every fiber of my being
  11. using the option seems logical.... If Gomez does well in AAA it would help his trade value....or help convince Melvin that he belongs in the plans for next year
  12. There's no way the Braves can afford Lee in 2011 & I'm sure they will NOT offer arbitration..... The Braves payroll is nearly the same as the Brewers after peaking over $100mm not too many years ago.....that's the rub ....and their reason for literally "giving away" the likes of Vazquez, and Rafael Soriano ...also the Braves want to make room for Freddie Freeman at 1B in 2011
  13. Lopez supposedly has electric stuff & is a decent prospect.... but he's not having a good year at class A-Rome: 3-8 4.37, 1.37 whip & 6.8 K/9 Harris was only recently promoted to AA-Mississippi & is doing better than he did at A+ and A earlier this season..... he's strictly a reliever & throws hard but wasn't considered a top prospect ...2.90 era, 1.21 whip & 10.9 k/9 Lorick also isn't considered a top prospect but came on strong statistically in his 2nd season as a pro ...more of one of those "crafty" southpaws than a hard thrower 3-6 2.24, 1.22 whip, 7.4 k/9 ....none of these prospects are close to major league ready The Braves also received cash in the deal..... Glaus will probably go on the DL on Friday; his knees are shot
  14. Poor fundamentals have killed this team under the Melvin regime......throwing to the wrong base, missing the cutoff,....baserunning blunders..... not being able to move runners, poor bunters.....selfish AB's (going for the homerun on two strike counts) etc, etc ....the next Manager needs to be disciplinarian who demands execution of the fundamentals....also, as mentioned above, stands up for his players & insisting that the players play hard all the time
  15. Frank Wren addressed this option..... answer was Glaus' knees are so bad that he can't even get into a proper defensive stance....I agree, Glaus is a physical mess which explains how his hitting has slipped ..... Wren is planning to go with Infante & Prado at 2B & 3B respectively when Prado comes off the DL next week....and Brooks Conrad working into the mix....Infante is a better fielder at 2B than 3B therefore Prado will play 3B The Braves budget is tight, in fact it might be a little less than the Brewers.....therefore they won't target Fielder in the offseason but IMHO they will talk about MacGhee (they have Freddie Freeman ready for 1B but no 3B prospect on the horizon)
  16. what if Casey was claimed by the Cardinals (before the Braves had a chance to claim him)? The Cards are using Lopez since Freese is out for the year Would the Brewers call him back instead of dealing with a division rival???????
  17. Brooks Robinson from the 1970 World Series
  18. Melvin's little presentation was somewhere between a desperate GM begging to save his job & raising the white flag (on past pitcher non-development)
  19. GREAT move for the Twins...... 1) Ramos' stock has fallen like a rock 2) the Twins are still pretty good at catcher http://forum.brewerfan.net/images/smilies/tongue.gif
  20. If I was a GM looking for a reliever the only two I'd ask about are Axford & Loe ....I'd inquire about Braddock too because of his potential ....think about it, if a team is a legit playoff contender who else from the Brewers bullpen is currently pitching playoff-caliber ball? the rest are either bad, inconsistent or bad & expensive
  21. inconsistent scorekeepers make fielding statistics nearly useless.....
  22. Dayton Moore has an incredible appetite for players he was associated with during his years with the Braves....unfortunately for the Royals they all stink
  23. http://www.ajc.com/sports/atlanta-braves/teams-calling-about-braves-577566.html article on Braves pitching prospects
  24. I just threw that offer against the wall .... from what I've read at MLB Rumors the Braves still have questions about Hart... but I'm guessing Melvin will demand more than one quality prospect & they need to be close to major league ready so I went with Delgado & Beachy... The Braves don't want to trade Minor because he's their only high quality southpaw above A ball....
  25. both rely on 2-seam fastballs...... the Brewers should focus on building their staff around ground ball pitchers because of Miller Park's small dimensions.... & that's the value of the 2-seam fastball, even if it clicks an MPH or 3 behind the 4-seamer * Delgado... keep in mind he's still only 20 & thin (think projectionable) so he should add some MPH's as his body matures *Beachy .... Jim Callis from Baseball America recently Tweeted that Beachy projects as a #2 or #3 Major League starter .... in a recent start vs the Brewers' Huntsville team, Beachy had 13 strikeouts in 5 innings ....Bill Shanks from Fox Sports South identified Beachy as "THE breakout pitcher" in the Braves system this year ....
