  1. AZBrewCrew, that's what makes it crazier that I coach girls golf in the Valley. Monday was the first time all year where I felt comfortable. Spending 3-4 hours after school/work each day in August when it was 115...man that was rough! I don't know what I'm thinking every year when I sign that contract to coach. I'd like to make it to a few games as well. I'm curious if the same grounds crew guys are still working at Phoenix Muni from when I was working the AFL.
  2. Parra and Loe aren't the problem. They're 6th or 7th inning relievers. Henderson and Axford are late inning relievers. We could use 1-2 more solid relievers. Kinzler looks good. Stetter, Wooten, Sanchez, and others should battle it out. If we can can package Parra for something, that might be a good option.
  3. it was nice to hear positive thoughts instead of the negativity that common in July. Let's finish over .500 and keep this going for next year.
  4. some traditions just don't belong in Miller Park. For instance, if I caught an opponent's homer there, I wouldn't throw it back, I'd cherish it with my two foul balls. Why do the Wrigley thing? Wooing is annoying and needs to be exterminated, not encouraged.
  5. Great outing by Estrada. He's at 114 pitches. Given that it's likely his last outing of the year, I'd seek his feedback here. He looks strong, his gas-tank might just have 120-130 pitches in it tonight. Why not!?!
  6. HiandTight, I sort of agree. I think K-Rod hopefully will analyze this season and realize the significance of getting ahead in the count. Sometimes he got too slider friendly and fell behind 3-0 before serving up homers. I think he can learn from this year. If he likes Milwaukee, I wouldn't mind bringing him back.
  7. Just keep in mind that all of the pitchers mentioned in this deal may not ever amount to a Kyle Peterson career. That's trading 3 relatively cheap all-star caliber years for a whole lot of question-marks.
  8. Tired is the thing that makes sense. He seems to not be pounding the zone as much as before. In his last month he's gone: 1-3 (5 starts) 20.2IP 31H 16ER 12BB 23K 6.97ERA 2.081WHIP Before that he went: 8-6 (16 starts) 101IP 88H 32ER 23BB 102K 2.85ERA 1.10WHIP please feel free to modify formatting.
  9. Don't forget that Melvin's gone on record as saying he believes in the bounceback of relievers due to normal deviations from season to season. I think it's more likely that he has an ERA in the 3's or 2's than Loe next year. If we can improve the pen, I'd like that. But I'm not sure Melvin's willing to pay the going rate for setup men which is usually 3 years $12-15 million.
  10. Brady Clark with the Brewers was solid defensively and very strong in terms of OBP. I'm not sure much was ever expected from Clark given that he was undrafted. I also don't think he ever played with the Angels, but he did come up with Cincinnati. Let's look at Brady Clark's 4 years in Milwaukee: 84 2b, 30 hr, .284/.361/.393/.754, pretty good defensively in RF, mediocre in CF Nori in 1 year in Milwaukee: 36 2b, 10 hr, .285/.352/.433/.785, plays very good RF, would be capable in CF MNBrew, I think perhaps we're valuing Brady Clark differently. I'm viewing him as a guy with no real tool but a knack for contributing a little bit in every category. His best year in Milwaukee (2005) compares very favorably with Aoki's season, except for Aoki's much higher stolen base total/rate. I think you're viewing Clark as another Brewers scrub from the bad seasons, not the solid contributor that he was. He's no David Hulse or Kevin Mench. I meant that Aoki is a worthwhile starter for his good seasons, but we should have a capable backup plan for if/when he declines. edit: Your second statement is just not true. Clark had a better year in Milwaukee than Aoki.
  11. I'd say that Nori is a solid contributor on offense and likely worthy of being our RF. My worry is still CF next year. I could at least see Aoki getting his OPS into the .800s. Gamel, Gindl, or Khris Davis might find themselves playing some RF with Aoki in CF. Basically, Aoki reminds me of a left-handed Brady Clark.
  12. I suggested we bring him back for somewhere between $3-5 million (I think) and got ridiculed for it. While rebuilding his value to be a closer, why not do it here. He's on a winner and it's a good baseball town.
  13. baldkin, perhaps I'm off here. But a .300 OBP vs lefties seems solid. Lots of star caliber lefties seem to do worse
  14. 5. A position player making a position change to pitcher or a pitcher making a position change to position player receives a one-year exemption from minor league service time restrictions. NOTE: A position player being converted to a pitcher may not be used as a position player in a minor league game during the exempt year, and a pitcher being converted to a position player may not be used as a pitcher in a minor league game during the exempt year. I found that regarding Hitaniel Arias and Brock Kjeldgaard...still looking for proof on what was reported a year or so ago

  17. he did it last time he was about to be a free agent.
  18. people get shocked when I try to recite that stat from a few years back. I'm probably way off, but it was something like the following for pitching slots in mlb: ERA <3.25=1 3.25-4.00=2 4.00-4.75=3 4.75-5.50=4 >5.50=5
  19. okay. I'm glad it's not just me. thanks guys. Still makes me wish they'd turn off some field mics. Also, a common thread in this road trip has been Brewers wins. Win tonight and that's 6-3 with 1 to play. So perhaps the losses are a factor.
  20. hard to describe the sound except as a "wooh" or "cooh", but over this entire roadtrip I've been getting annoyed by fans (especially in the mid-to-late innings) making these loud coo-ing noises seemingly every pitch. It was really bad in Pitt, noticeable in Wash, and often tonight. Am I just getting old that this annoys me? Anyone else observe this?
  21. Fiers has been fine. It seems like he's been walking more and struggling to throw strikes. For a few months he pounded the zone and was stingy with baserunners. I'm not worried to open the season, especially since we'll have other internal candidates should he struggle
  22. baldkin, that's why anecdotal evidence is bad, right? I keep seeing these short outings and remember last year he had a segment on the MLB Channel where they diagnosed his incredible K rate given his poor velocity.
  23. interesting torts. I'd have to look back at this year, but it sure seems like his K's are down dramatically from last year. He was racking up the K's last year
  24. If you think Green deserves to be in AAA based on his major league production, then by that notion, so does Gamel. However, neither really have anywhere near enough of a sample size to be able to judge accurately. But based on minor league numbers, scouting reports, actually watching them, etc., I think both should be on the team next year. I'd actually start Gamel in either RF/1B but that's another discussion. Actually, I think Green deserves to be in AAA based on a few things--big league production, minor league production, and positions. Gamel produced multiple awesome seasons in the minors. Green has produced two, with several injury-plagued or ineffective years in the middle. If Gamel starts in RF, Green should be the backup. If Gamel is a utility guy, then Green goes to AAA as great depth. After all these years of trying to build organizational depth, I don't buy into the notion that guys can't be held back in AAA for some extra seasoning. That got us in trouble when we dealt Hardy to play Escobar, then we moved Escobar a year later
  25. Green still deserves to be in AAA. I was a huge fan of him in the minors, but he's looked pretty awful in the majors. Maybe I just can't stand his stance. As of now I'd have Gamel, Bianchi, Maldonado, and Morgan/Gindl/Schafer as the backups. It would be a young but talented bench. Of course, Aoki could move to CF, Gamel could play RF, and Green could then fill his role. Depends on what happens with Gomez, but it would be tempting to try dealing Gomez while his value is at an all-time high and his price getting expensive.
