  1. BrewersSuperCollector, Nomo was in '99 as well. And neither Jeff Cirillo nor David Nilsson left as free agents. One was traded and one retired. With Nilsson and Nomo, the Brewers reportedly had trades worked out only to have Wendy veto them.
  2. didn't they take JM Gold and Neugy?
  3. I think that if I were one of the other teams, I'm hoping the Brewers do not add: Wooten, Manzanillo, Gindl, Meadows, Wheeler, Merklingers, and maybe Luetge
  4. don't forget Jeff Cirillo. Kelly Wunsch wound up having a solid run after leaving the Brewers. I still don't get how we evaluated talent...for instance, Troy O'Leary had a nice run after leaving Milwaukee. How was it that our organization was so pitiful by 95/96 that we were reliant on scabs like Jamie McAndrew, Brian Givens, etc? I don't fault them, but we had an organizational problem besides even the drafting of Chad Green, Antone Williamson, etc.
  5. the big difference would be how rosters are constructed. Teams use the DH spot differently. Some hire a DH that can hit. Others basically have 10 or 11 starting caliber hitters and rotate guys between the field and the DH spot. The key for the Brewers would be that we are past the days of guys like Jesse Levis being our DH. Of course, If we went to the DH next year, I'd change my view and I'd make a big run at keeping Prince.
  6. Fielder and k-rod would each net two, right? That's five
  7. MNBrew, I think that some people have this weird idea that Marcum has had a serious injury-history. Given two years of great performance following TJ surgery, I don't look at his history as troubling. Also, people seem to for some reason think he's like 33. He's not Suppan...a 4 year deal is much safer with Marcum than with many others. Plus, if we don't sign him, I'd hate to have him go to the Cubs.
  8. Furcal is just trying to audition for the Brewers to get a 2 year $14 million contract out of us
  9. Ooops, I got my Latin names wrong...I couldn't remember Santo Manzanillo, so I types Rigoberto Almonte. What's with our (Rafael) Roque (Jose) Mercedes and (Victor) Santo(s) (Josias) Manzanillo combos?
  10. We have some nice talent in the minors, but besides the AAA kids, the lower guys are generally lacking in OBP.
  11. actually, if the Brewers resign Greinke and Marcum, I see them being competitive all 3 years. Gamel replacing Fielder, Gindl replacing Hart, and Green replacing McGehee will all be fine. The biggest area of concern is still SS. They should be able to get some decent talent in return for Hart, McGehee, and Wolf should they trade any of them. It sure would be nice to replace the two aforementioned righties in the lineup with some lefties
  12. Awesome post! It was an interesting year. Continued to romp: Thornburg, Fiers, Gindl, gamel Disappointing: Rivas, Farris, Wheeler, ke. Davis, Morris, komatsu (for being dealt), Rogers Back from the dead: Anundsen, Green, Wooten, prince, big Brock, Shafer, brownstein On the radar: Miller, Nelson, Merklinger, d. Richardson, khris Davis, Ross, a. Jones, Ardis, Rivera, maldanado, mittlestaedt, Heckathorn, zarraga (now switch hitting) Huge jump: almonte, green, peralta Just to name a few
  13. Gamel's like Green....so when you say "power threat," realize that they could be creations of the PCL. I'd expect both to be Cirillo or Overbay types with 15-25 hr power and .285+ batting avg, .350+ obp.
  14. Gamel has been too big a part of this team for three years now for the Brewers to not bring him up. Once the Brewers clinch, they could give the kids a couple of days with a AAA pitcher starting and Green, Gamel, Maldanado, and Shafer all playing. That would also let them re-align their rotation. I don't got this at all.
  15. Nate one difference with sup pan and marcum is marcum is younger. Another is that marcum has 1 plus pitch, suppan had none.
  16. Paul, that will be us next year if we deal Marcum. We'll be desperate to add a front/middle of the rotation starter, and they're not easy to add (seeing as we've managed to get one every 5-6 years it seems)
  17. I'd consider Reyes, furcal, or another stopgap until we find a better option. I do love the idea of trying to acquire some B-level minor league talent
  18. On the XM broadcast last night, the Astros announcers said they felt the Brewers would beat the Phillies when they played...thought that was interesting
  19. Like I always say... Let's build a braves-style winner: Maddux, glavine, smoltz=gallardo, marcum, gallardo Chipper= Braun Come and get us NL central!
  20. Wow, Anundsen's post-all star break numbers are very solid. I wonder if he's officially back!
  21. Actually, Lawrie would probably be playing 2b and we'd be wondering why he hadn't tried 3b or 1b, much like we did with Farris
  22. Personally I like having one of the game's best 3rd pitchers. If we absolutely needed to deal someone, it's Wolf. Even then, I'm not convinced Peralta or Fiers could match Wolf next year
  23. just to note, I said previously that Apple had upgraded its network. Given that Apple has no network, I assume it was pretty obvious that I meant AT&T's network. Some didn't seem to understand that, hence why I'm noting my mistake here. And Apple was not the first to add many features (as thebruce44), however, Jobs is the first to say that Apple might not be the first to do things, but when it does things it gets them right.
  24. I'd much rather give $100 million to Reyes than $200 million to Fielder. In fact, for Prince's contract we could come close to signing Reyes, Greinke, and Marcum. Of course, all would want to be here.
  25. Mass Haas, I thought those rules don't apply to foreigners. For instance, I thought the rules said that if a player is in a non-US summer league, it doesn't count against their years before needing to be protected from the Rule V draft.
