  1. wow, I'm not sure what people are seeing. That's a lot of money for a guy that hasn't done much in his career. He's had two seasons logging even 150 innings out of 11 years. This is as close to a guaranteed wasting of $1.5 million as I've seen.
  2. TuesdaysWithRillo, not bad? That's expensive for a guy that has had 1 good year, and it came 4 or 5 years ago.
  3. I for one am expecting huge things from Parra. What I like is that he struggled in '08 with walks, yet in the minors he rarely walked anyone. I'm expecting Manny to go roughly 14-8, 3.70 185 IP 180 K's 50 BB
  4. The MLB network had a 10-15 minute discussion on Saturday of "why is Ben Sheets available?" Their conclusion was that he was stupid for not taking arbitration.
  5. Hall has always had great tools, and I often advocated him being out 3b. But his play in April and May last year had me yearning for Branyan both offensively and defensively. Billy probably had the roughest stretch I've ever seen from him in both facets of the game
  6. Winn would make sense to add versatility. It's always nice to have good defenders, solid OBP guys, speedy runners, and switch hitters. As of now, the Brewers are lacking in all of those. He'd be a solid 4th OF as long as the Crew plans to use him well (means letting Braun get 145 starts, Cameron 120, Hart 130).
  7. I'd love to land Hoffman. Additionally, Lyon or Cruz are enticing as they are power pitchers. The Brewers really lacked a strikeout pitcher in their pen this year, and adding one would be nice for when there are men on base. I'd love Lyon, but the concern is that he's been hurt a lot, it seems.
  8. I'd rather trade Fielder for pitching, platoon Hart and Nelson at 1b (not a strict platoon), and sign Dunn for the OF
  9. I've figured that some times punting could be good...like on your own 1-40 yard lines. But I also figure that if the expected value of a 2 point conversion is over 1 point, then teams should be going for 2 points nearly every time. I try these approaches in my PS2 dynasties, but I doubt NFL teams will try them.
  10. I disagree that Dunn is likely worse at first than Prince. Dunn has at least some range and some arm (given that he's played the OF), while Prince has neither. Plus, Dunn has to run and bend over for ground balls, while Prince can't even stand still while bending over for balls. And being 6'6" would also be nice in a 1st baseman. It has to be tough for infielders knowing that Prince is awful at coming off the bag, often has the wrong foot on the bag, has short arms, is short, and can't bend over. Really, Prince's strike zone (while batting) is bigger than the space his fielders have to throw the ball to make it catchable for him.
  11. endaround, this is one of those things that's based on feel, so I know you won't like the argument. When McClung comes into games in relief, I tend to think "well, this one is over...we've lost." When he starts, he tends to have some room to work around his walks because early in the games, the offense can rally back from the run or two he gives up. So I definitely prefer McClung as a starter. He's had one dominant relief outing, and suddenly some folks (note necessarily you) are anointing him closer
  12. I'd have interest in Swisher for Cameron, as it gives a young slugger with defensive versatility and lefty bat (I think) for Cameron
  13. I'd rather try to move Prince for a solid package that includes a starting pitcher (Jered Weaver?), keep Cameron, and sign Dunn. It'd be nice if we could add the Rockies to the deal somehow to get something like: Prince going to Angels, Wood and another to Rockies, Weaver and Street to Brewers
  14. Mike, Aaron Harang sure has been good since leaving Oakland
  15. jason21nl...is there such a thing as a good ASUS? I guess one reason you get Dell and HP more for servicing is due to their market-share. First off, lots more people have them. Secondly, computer illiterate folks have them. Nearly every problem I've had has been with IBM's. I loved Micron for my high school and college computer. I ordered a Dell when Vista came out and have loved it. My only issue has been with an IBM laptop...lots of problems with them, though.
  16. I am hoping for a nice BestBuy giftcard at Christmas that I can put towards a netbook. I really don't like traveling with my work MacBook (actually, I generally don't like the Macs like I thought I would. I want small and portable, so when I'm on the couch (like now) it isn't a heavy and hot brick.
  17. I have no problem with our current rotation. My issue is that we need AAA depth. I really don't like McClung in the bullpen, as he doesn't throw enough strikes most of the time.
  18. Personally I want two good/solid catchers rather than 1. So trading Salome/Lucroy is foolish to me. I like the way the Dbacks have both Snyder and Montero, who are both very good defensively with some offensive upside.
  19. Has anyone ever heard of a pitcher tearing two muscles that deal with the throwing motion? I wonder if this is some genetic issue, as he now has 2 torn muscles, tendinitis, torn finger tissue, vertigo, etc.
  20. I like Paul Byrd, but I'd love Brad Penny on an incentive laden 1 year deal (vesting 2010 option). The Big Unit remains my first choice
  21. With Igawa, I wonder if adjusting to the American baseball dimensions has affected him or taken time to adjust to. I often worry about guys adjusting to the MLB and NFL balls vs what they're used to, as there can be huge differences.
  22. logan, hasn't Lamb been much better than that throughout his career? You're looking at a season in which he started slowly and was released! Branyan's OBP likely isn't any better, seeing as he hits .225.
  23. Brian, what impresses you about TGJ? I've seen iffy big league range, a mediocre arm, and average jumps. I can't recall seeing him run down one ball that made me say, "wow!" Cameron did that on a daily basis. I was enamored with Gwynn in the minors, but have been very unimpressed as his speed and range hasn't impressed me in the big leagues. As colby and I discussed before, if Gwynn is as strong defensively as his reputation, then Fernando Perez is the greatest defensive CF to ever play the game. While Perez is amazing, I think that helps explain that I think Gwynn isn't as good as once claimed.
  24. I was under the impression that Lamb wasn't as good as Hall anyways. Billy is probably above average defensively, but Lamb should hold his own (much like Branyan did). Lamb's OBP skills and left-handed bat should keep him in the lineup, probably hitting 2nd.
  25. I noticed the comment, too. From what I remember, I thought Jones was sitting in the 88-91 range. Frankly, he's only about 18 months removed from Tommy John surgery. He's still young enough that if he can keep his arm healthy for next year, he could start to see some command and velocity return.
