  1. wvpowerblkwel, I'm with you. LeFave just might be the player I'd vote for minor league offensive player of the year. Chapman also had a fine year. Holmberg and Green with fine seasons. Alonso solid at a still young age.
  2. I would imagine that they'll be Rottino, Carlos Villanueva, and Spurling on Saturday. Gwynn, Aquino, and Sarfate will likely be up shortly thereafter. And I'd expect the potential 7th to be either Nix, Jackson, or Pettyjohn. They'll likely call up Pettyjohn and Sarfate in part to take looks for 2008.
  3. McClung has looked like the man he was traded for...Balfour. Throws hard with a nice breaking pitch, but often gets a lot of the plate.
  4. Brian Givens. After many years of rehabbing through various injury-played seasons and surgeries, he had a taste of success with the Crew, even having some national articles written about him. However, he faded rather quickly
  5. Interesting to see Alonso at 3b...I remember Toby telling me that he really only has one position--DH. And I'm enjoying seeing LaPorta hit for avg and power...but the strikeouts are a bit high and the walks a bit low for an advanced, disciplined college hitter
  6. Colby, I've seen the Long kids in Montana at an airport, and it's amazing how they look (their dad as well). For instance, they have huge waists, but have almost virtually no fat on them...so chiseled is an understatement. They are just very well built. Their dad blew me away when I sat near him on the plane, as he looks like he could still play...huge, but not in a fat way at all.
  7. I'd love to see a Villy/Parra piggybacked start. Although something tells me we'll see Dickey this week.
  8. On the argument that he was one of the game's elite CF's and leadoff men for around a decade, he should be a first ballot HOF selection.
  9. the bigger loss was to our #2 pitcher. Losing Sheets was sort of expected. Our 3-5 pitchers have pitched as expected (hence why most of anticipated Vargas being replaced in the rotation in August). The only really unexpected loss was Cappy pitching worse than Vargas. Really, 22-26 starts from Sheets was expected, and they were good starts.
  10. At least Yo got out of that frame. Estrada's been a really good receiver all year, but twice in this game he's dropped ticked 3rd strikes, and one time it really hurt as the next pitch was looped for a hit.
  11. ender, from all that I've read, this season we could go over Yo's limit for innings and he'll be fine this year. It's the following year that is the issue. Realistically, we could build him up slowly, skipping him often in April, and in effect getting him ready to pitch in our rotation around May 1st-10th, getting him roughly 5 months in. So basically, we could treat his April in AAA as a spring training, and thus we'd be giving him extra time, while limiting the stress on his arm in year 2. the problem with most pitchers is that after having a dramatic increase in workload, the following year it is expected that they'll perform at the same level, when in reality the teams need to be careful either on the front end or the back end. Yet for some reason, teams will push these young arms both on the front and back and.
  12. I was just thinking about the Cubs' series, and now it looks like the Crew will line up with Sheets, Vargas, and Gallardo in the 3 games. While I wish it were someone other than Vargas, his pattern seems to say that his outing will be decent.
  13. nice start for the crew...I can't recall the last time the bloopers actually were falling in for us
  14. adding Wickman also would give us a solid reliever for next year. I like it
  15. Suppan was a 6 inning pitcher with the Cardinals because that is how Tony LaRussa uses most pitchers. He plays "the game within the game" more than any other manager. Yost lets his starts try to get to 100 pitches, so that plays a big role in getting to 200 IP.
  16. Plus, it's hard to be disappointed when they signed far more players than in any other recent draft.
  17. I think Durrington and Loretta were the last two for the Brewers. Remember, Cirillo was a highly-touted pitcher as an amateur, and was told that his only chance to reach the big leagues would be as a pitcher.
  18. Do we know if Yo threw in Instrucs last year? If so, then he possibly might have around 20 more innings in his tank this year
  19. As others have said, we have awful defense, they have good defense. Throw in that their pitching has thrived while our's has struggled, and you have it figured out.
  20. wow, I feel bad for the kid. To be honest, isn't part of parenting "to prepare your child for the real world?" Sorry, this kid will flip out walking on a city sidewalk because of the cracks, cigarette butts, and the gum stuck to it. Or he might freat out tailgating because the brat or hot dog has a little black (aka, burn) on it).
  21. Wednesday I'll be behind the Dish, slightly towards the Dbacks dugout (caught a foul ball there 2 years ago)
  22. jvrocksaz, I was in 115 row 32 with a coworker, and was surrounded by Brewer fans. One was a golf pro in north Scottsdale and his girlfriend (they were at the game in Houston when we rallied off Lidge), and I saw the most obscure Brewers' jersey ever...Bobby Hughes
  23. turns out I'm going tonight, too! Yo vs the human rain delay
  24. I'm going Wednesday night, and I'd love to go to another but need to check my schedule and see about availability
  25. Al, the Brewers could decline Jenkins' option AND offer him arbitration. He'd be foolish to take a 1 year deal when some team would give him 2-3 years at 20-30 million. Since we would have offered him arbitration, we'd be getting draft picks. By declining his option he is still our property until the free agency filing deadline. At that point he can opt to become a free agent.
