  1. Id think we need insurance with Hiura’s elbow, no clear 3b, and an unproven SS. Even if he isn’t an everyday starter, Arcia could get 300-400 plate appearances. In the past he’s done well when challenged for his job
  2. Odd, and somewhat disappointing decision. Guerra was extremely useful in multiple roles for the Brewers, and was always effective in most of them. Gonna see a lot of turnover on the pitching staff in 2020 it appears. Sort of expected, as Junior was do for a nice raise and he battled his splitter all year
  3. A year ago at this time Davies had absolutely no value. Glad we got something for him
  4. Sounds like 4 years $34m, and living in one of the best places in the US
  5. I’m guessing Uriah’s gives us depth at 2b, so, and 3b. For now he’s our upgrade over Perez. But he could potentially start somewhere.
  6. Well, 2 down. With Thames non-tendered, I still think Shaw and Braun splitting time at 1b is an option.
  7. I'd vote Bonds, Jeter, Clemens, Schilling, Wagner, Ramirez, Walker, and maybe Sosa. Yes, it would be the cheating class, but this would be a step towards moving past this issue. Some deserve it even despite roids
  8. Subaru's are very nice cars.
  9. They have the highest satisfaction of all auto brands. When surveyed, more people say they would buy the car again than buyers of any other make. I'm not going to buy one. I absolutely love my GM products. If I switched to another make, it'd be Toyota. I'd never be caught dead owning a European car, especially after all the problems my family has had with BMWs and Mercedes. But that's my opinion. I think what Musk and Tesla are doing is admirable. Yes, part of his schtick is excessive promotion, but the same goes for many other CEOs. He understands hype. But he's a visionary in an industry that's pretty boring at times
  10. Are our media revenues still the lowest in the game?
  11. Grandal was good while here, but I will remember him more for the sheer number of dropped pitches in the zone that became called balls, dropped foul tips, and iffy throwing arm. I know the defensive metrics loved him, but it never matched the eye test. I’ll miss his offense. Good luck to him and the ChiSox, but I also never expected him back. Moose is my target, and Pina as a defensive upgrade. Looking forward to Pina hitting .250 with 20+ doubles, 10-12 hr, .320+ OBP, and his usual stellar defense. Also, while the kids on the farm are young, if any have MLB caliber defense, I’d consider adding them for the old Yost-model of catching 1/5 or 2/5 days.
  12. The reason Grandal took the one year offer last season was because he didn't want to lower the average annual salary for catchers by taking a lower AAV multi year deal. He mentioned how those who came before him created the market that got him that much per year and he wasn't going to be the one who lowered it for future players. So I doubt he's going to take a lower deal just to stick with the better team. It was also speculated that he wanted to play half his games in Miller Park with the relatively short RF, in an effort to bolster his numbers before another run into free agency
  13. Maybe his stuff simply regressed. Hard to say. Maybe they have big plans for those other 40 man spots. There's still time to protect one or two more players. They have five open spots remaining. And a few borderline guys already on the 40-man (looking at you, Saladino). 4 after the trade this afternoon
  14. that was probably me. I see zero reason anyone would waste a roster spot on a player with one good minor league season. Ray simply hasn't produced. He's under team control for several more seasons, but I can't believe any team would stash a guy in the majors, playing him for 1 automatic out per week. I haven't seen him play, so there's no traditional scouting I've done. But he's looking like a huge bust...like a Jed Bradley. Bickford makes sense to me. He dominated in the 2h.
  15. I'd much rather expand the minors.
  16. It's weird, but I've liked all their uniforms. The 1990s I liked because both navy and dark green were included. I liked the later refresh. I've really liked the script M. As Beast said, I'm going to fondly remember the success of the last dozen or so years. This new uniform will work if the on-field success continues. This wasn't simply a money-grab, as the Brewers are so well represented in Wisconsin wardrobes. Living and teaching in AZ has shocked me. If I didn't know better, I'd think we have no NBA team, no NFL team, and a minor league baseball team. I probably see more Coyotes apparel than the others, and Dbacks are clearly #2. Wisconsin fans buy so much merchandise.
  17. Perhaps. Although I swear he threw mostly fastballs this year, so not to hard to worry about shaking off pitches
  18. I like the idea of re-signing Moose, keeping Shaw for 1b/3b, and finding a complement for Pina. I think Manny is a solid catcher, and his defense will be an upgrade. His offense is probably somewhere between 2017 and 2018. Perhaps Nottingham is a decent backup, but we've also been good at finding journeymen that can help a bit.
  19. Pretty sure they have to file in every state they play in throughout the season... https://deadspin.com/lets-take-a-look-at-andrew-mccutchens-pay-stub-1706188663 And now I've learned that there's a thing called the Jock Tax, and indeed that's a thing. Crazy, and I can't believe I never knew about it. This wasn't always the case. In the 90's as salaries exploded, states saw this as a way of increasing revenues. It's athletes and all types of entertainers.
  20. Age is also relative. This guy might have taken more years to hone his craft and his mechanics. I don't care a guy's age, I want success
  21. I'm sure Redskin fans would call him a bust being the 4th overall. Lots of Packer fans think AJ Hawk was a bust at #5, and he's the Packers all time leader in tackles for a career. Howard was a bust as a star, but found a niche for a few seasons. Hawk was a bust in that he was a steady player, but never really good or great. In the top 10, teams want to get something more than a long-time contributor. He was never a top 5 middle linebacker, and maybe cracked the top 10 only once or twice.
  22. Don't forget the other part...cost of living is radically different in NYC, LA, SF, etc than Milwaukee. Heck, it's no wonder the entire league doesn't live in AZ instead of like half.
  23. by no means was I ever advocating signing someone solely to later trade them. Or as MrTPlush said, to "dump" them. But if we don't compete on value, we will not sign guys. Teams don't sign people to trade them, but did anyone think the DBacks would keep Greinke the entire deal? Teams often are willing to go an extra year, fully knowing that the player may not be with them at the end. Would going to 4 years on Grandal or Moose be catastrophic for the Brewers? Probably not. If everyone else offers 3, I'd be willing to go 4, depending on total contract.
  24. Don't forget that we Brewer fans suffer from some syndrome where we are so afraid of value and length of contract, that we forget that signing a player for 4 years doesn't necessarily mean we're going to have him for 4 years. I don't like the idea of paying someone to no longer play for us, BUT we could sign Grandal for 4 years at $18M per. Play him for 2 years, then trade him as part of a blockbuster deal. Even if we have to, we could eat a little salary in the deal. I don't necessarily advocate for this, but if the Brewers want to keep him, they can always extend the offering fully knowing that he may not finish the deal in Milwaukee.
  25. So let Pomeranz walk for 1 million? If 3 at 24 million won't get it done, but 3 at 25 million will, it would be asinine to not give him the extra million. Well your willing to go $25M, now $26M gets the job done. Can't we just go another another $1M? that's when you hope he's signing in a higher cost of living or tax state, and hope you can convince him that take home pay is more important than gross pay
