  1. This Koronis kid looks absolutely filthy in the scouting video. 92 mph with a tight slider....was he a signibility casualty?
  2. hello Newman. Interesting to see he didn't pitch in JuCo in 2005 due to injury, and then missed this year at Texas A&M. Is he another Steven Hammond?
  3. also for the draft being a crapshoot, sometimes it has really odd things. Like the year Michael Garciaparra went in the supplemental 1st round to the M's. Several clubs admitted that he wasn't on their 2000+ person draft board. Most laughed at the selection, but he's now hitting .300 in AAA.
  4. What's peculiar about this year is the number of pitchers. In past years, the Crew used rounds 15-30 to draft a number of solid college hitters. Some that come to mind are Tony Festa, DJ Clark, Brenden Katin, etc
  5. wow, taking the UWM CF. The Brewers seem intent on picking the quality guys in WI this year. Could he be another Brady Clark/Vinny Rottino? Loading up on arms, but were are the Canadians this year?
  6. read the info in the official draft thread pinned at the top. They say it in the articles
  7. Looks like King went 16-2 with an ERA of around 2.20-2.40 in his collegiate career. Few hits per inning, not a lot of K's, however, not many walks.
  8. Just checking through the rosters, and I look forward to seeing the young AZ Brewers rotatioan in Roque Mercedes (19), Rolando Pascual (17), Wily Peralta (17), and Alex Periard (19). For Helena, I'm looking forward to following Adam Mannon, Brandon Parillo, and Steve Chapman as of now. Seems like this Helena team might be younger than in past years, but that doesn't mean it won't be exciting.
  9. good to see a game thread started nice and early. I really feel good about this. Park beat us last time, and we should be able to get to him. Hopefully the Crew comes out on a mission tonight.
  10. gregmag, I lost it a couple months ago over the negativity on the boards. The result was that people said, "what negativity?" Sometimes it happens where people can gang up on a player and bash someone non-stop for days. But when someone calls them on it, a lot of times the response is, "geez, chill dude. We're just having some fun, and you're over-reacting." My advice is to take a day or two away from the site. It really helped me back in the offseason to keep my sanity.
  11. thanks for the articles fellas. Interesting that our 18th rounder won't sign, our 17th rounder wants to be a DFE, and our 16th rounder might require big bucks.
  12. Also, while Mark Rogers has been aweful in some starts, he's been very good in 3-5 starts, meaning the team should win those.
  13. interesting that one of our guys told teams interested in drafting him that he wouldn't sign, but rather would only like to DFE
  14. what's the image of? the little guy on the right looks familiar, but I can't place it
  15. for reference, the same year we drafted D'Amico, we took Kelly Wunsch in the supplemental round. He was a high school pitcher, and has had a rather solid career.
  16. I'd like to see a system more in tune with the NFL's. A panel--perhaps from outsiders like BA, PG, etc--gets together around April 1st, and begins to assess not only the players lost by a team, but the players added. They can then add extra picks to any team with a net loss of talent, and they could be anywhere from at the end of the 1st round to the end of the 5th round. The only time a team loses their own picks is when they sign another team's stud player who had been offered arbitration. Or perhaps if this in this situation, any compensation picks that team gets should simply be handed to the team that lost the star.
  17. Clark has a scouting video, and he looks a lot like Travis Lee. Tall, wiry, open stance.
  18. I have a friend that almost did the medical school in the caribbean. A lot cheaper than in the US, and he'd still have to pass the same tests, certifications, etc. Instead he went the DO route
  19. I can't say I've heard of someone having labrum surgery at age 16 or so. The key is to have a stretch of prolonged health behind him. If he's back to the low-to-mid 90s, then something must be better. Sounds like if it weren't for the injury, he'd have been a first rounder, so this is a reasonable pick
  20. BA on Robinson The next-best pitchers in the state were also hard-throwing righthanders, Chad Robinson and Kyle Smit. Robinson touched 94 mph as a sophomore but had labrum surgery as a junior. Robinson had made five starts down the stretch of the high school season, though, and was regaining arm strength, maintaining his 88-91 mph fastball deep into his fifth start and touching 92. He wasn't throwing many sliders, but his changeup is his second-best pitch anyway, and he's shown a good feel for it. The question on Robinson is whether his medical background and lack of a breaking ball will outweigh his projectable 6-foot-5, 200-pound frame for teams. Robinson is a Nevada-Las Vegas signee
  21. but splitterpfj, we really weren't counting on anyone helping before 2009 from this draft, were we?
  22. Hughes used to throw harder and had better results as a Sophomore, I believe.
  23. didn't realize how well Nashville was doing. Wow.
  24. RyDogg, the real question is, will he surpass Rogers for wins this year or next?
  25. no, Damon was a type A free agent...1st rounder + a sandwich pick
