  1. I love it when Jenkins goes the other way...always a sign he's about to go on a binge. I used to argue that with Scoop all the time, since he argued Jenkins should pull everything, and his struggles were the result of going the other way
  2. the Little Unit is Ryan Anderson.
  3. what happens is that if you have 1 inning shy of the minimum, all innings pitched the next day count towards the total. Otherwise the game would have to choose which inning from all of the innings pitched
  4. any bets on Li'l Ben tonight? I'll say 7 innings, 1 run, 2 BB, 6 K's.
  5. colby, I think if they were available, I'd be tempted to consider the high school lefties based on what i've read recently. The numbers are mind-boggling (Ryan Anderson/Jeff Allison like). They're lefty, have good stuff, solid builds, etc. Is there any more insight I can squeeze out of you about these guys? I'm thinking of Kershaw and Anderson, specifically. I could see us going for a corner outfielder, as the system is really lacking some big time corner outfield prospect. I'd love to land a college slugger, like the Dbacks did with Quentin.
  6. Injuries often times can be flukes. A twinge in the elbow can be the result of one pitch. A pain in the shoulder can be one pitch (like Sheets) or a million pitches. When a person walks along, they can take a funny step on the sidewalk, and severely roll an ankle. I had a roommate in college who hurt himself on my birthday, on the way to a restaurant to celebrate. So on my 21st bday, I had 1 beer, and the beverage I had as midnight passed was a frosty from Wendy's, as I was tired of waiting in the ER and needed a tasty treat to celebrate my bday (we made him go to the ER...he just wanted to put his foot up and for us to give him a bottle of cheap wine). My point is that some injuries truly are preventable, some injuries are not. I've had one serious injury in my entire life of sports. Yet I'm avg build (at best), 5'11" (6' in golf spikes), and ALWAYS was the least flexible kid on my teams going back to when I was 5 years old. Yet the only injury I've had that lasted more than 1 day was when I dislocated my left shoulder trying to kill a moth (why I now bat lefty in whiffleball). I could have had a whole team of experts stretching me each day, following me around, and monitoring my progress. Yet there's no way anybody could have anticipated my friend would have chronic ankle problems because of that one night, and there's no way someone could have told me how badly that moth would make me hurt. While I like high school arms, my only concern with them is that bodies change. When I was 17/18, I was 5'10" and about 180. When I was 22 I was 5'11" and 200. That may not sound like much, but that included my shoulders broadening tons. My body shape completely changed in those 4 years, as I went from being called skinny/scrawny to being told I looked like I played fullback, offensive line, or linebacker. So my concern with all pitchers (HS and college) is that between 17 and 22, a lot can change.
  7. Gimme Jared Hughes or David Huff in round one for the above reason. Hughes is a groundball machine while Huff is your prototypical crafty lefty that is drawing more and more comparisons to Barry Zito. colby, just wondering why you've changed your tune this year, and you're suddenly openly mentioning who you'd like to see taken. I thought in the past years you were very secretive.
  8. 0.059 avg against for lefties...sounds like Prince is gonna have to teach him a lesson
  9. Cirillo's small sample is becoming bigger each day.
  10. Zach Jack with his best game by far as a Brewers' farmhand. Good night for the tablesetters in AAA.
  11. Krynzel in one of his usual funks where in a matter of 3 or 4 days, his average drops 50 points. Hopefully he gets it going again soon. At this time last year was when his slide began...went from hitting .300+ to having a poor year
  12. another good outing for Rogers tonight. I think that's something like 4 of 6. He's going deeper into games now, walking fewer, and giving up fewer hits. Now to just have a few outings with 1 or 0 runs in a row
  13. I always thought Koskie was overrated by many here on the boards. I was really excited when the Crew failed to win the bidding for him. But at $2 million, I was excited. Then to watch him for a few weeks, I can't fathom how someone had to pay us to take him. He's a very solid player. And did they say his 16th double already? Geez!
  14. yucky. Well, lots of time left. But we need to get some outs first
  15. Rogers with no runs in the first! Very encouraging, since hasn't he usually struggled in the first, then settled down? make that two innings. Other than that one terrible outing where he went something like 2/3rds of an inning, his last 4-5 outings have been very solid
  16. I think much of his success in the NL so far is just due to no one having seen him pitch before. JoeH33, I know it's been a few years, but he threw in the NL Central before. Plus, guys change leagues much more these days than in the past.
  17. the Pirates' guy I meant was John Von Benshoeten or however it was spelled. A power guy who could pitch.
  18. one that most won't notice, but a nice hit and run there, as sending Moeller avoided the DP
  19. here we go. Way to go Rickie...boy he's sure been smoking the liners the last 2-3 weeks
  20. so how did Abernathy get picked off first with the bases loaded? Its listed as both a CS and PO, but he obviously wasn't stealing
  21. so is this Inman's way of reaching his quota: one bad outing each year?
  22. Wendy's in Arizona, so we're fine
  23. so, I know we've commented on how bad the commercials with Joan Cusack are, but what about those annoying Pepsi commercials with Jimmy Fallon and some woman. Maybe it's because I despise Pepsi, but but they just are obnoxious. However, the Man Laws commercials for Miller Lite are creative
  24. Colby, why don't teams try letting two way players (like Drabek) do so in the minors? I'm thinking of the Pirates' 1b/P drafted a few years ago in the first, Nick Markakis, etc. Perhaps even Ben Diggins when drafted. It would seem to me that allowing guys to dabble in 2-way play would increase the probability of having an increased return on their signing bonus. Maybe if you like him as a pitcher, let him start and then hit 3-4 days a week (or DH in the low minors), or if you like him as a hitter (Markakis) let him be an available arm in the pen a couple days a week
