  1. Come on Jenkins...make them pay. 2 on, none out.
  2. so he can steal bases, hit for average, draw walks, get on base at an extremely high clip, and you want to keep him from setting the table for guys like Lee, Fielder, or whoever else might be in the lineup? Using that logic, Rickey Henderson would have hit 3rd since he had too much power for leadoff. Yes he's valuable at any spot in the lineup, but as much as I like Krynzel, I don't think he'll be the leadoff guy in 3 years. Maybe Hardy
  3. Krynzel Weeks Fielder Lee Jenkins Actually, I think the lineup would be more likely to have Weeks leading off, but I could be wrong. He's just always screamed a great leadoff hitter to me
  4. Typical Brewer fan, settling for mediocre numbers also, should be noted that none of the three were our the regular 1, 3, and 4 hitters for us last year
  5. not bad when your 1, 3, and 4 hitters are a combined 9-9 with what, 5 extra basehits and about 7 rbi?
  6. 2 broken bats for Helling so far ....make that 3
  7. new I should have gone today. But I figured if I went the rain would have been bad.
  8. take that rookie edit: well, not a rookie anymore, I think, but you get the point
  9. saying Turnbow was throwing 95-96
  10. deleted lineups, someone else did it better
  11. so who is taking care of the running play-by-play? edit: also, I'm heading to the chat room
  12. scoop, not planning on making it today. Once again it's raining in the North Valley, so I'm gonna pass on the trip. But have fun and enjoy the ballpark
  13. Is the game on TMJ today or just internet??? I believe it's on internet and XM
  14. DevilDog, if you've got XM, I believe today's game is on the slate. Today should be a free webcast, too
  15. good to see the Angels be firm with him. Now the real trick will be next year. I have a hunch he'll reopen negotiations and sign just before the draft, because I know he'd hate to get drafted again next with a team having a much smaller draft budget than the Angels' and saying "sign or you'll miss 2 seasons...look at Matt Harrington."
  16. Got to see Palmisano walk around the dugout. He looks like an athlete thought the same thing yesterday. OF course, would like to see him get in some day. Then again, he's just an A-ball guy, so not likely if he didn't manage to play yesterday. Helms had a very nice rip to center and looks a LOT thinner. Did he shock you as much as he shocked me yesterday, or Uke and Powell today? I swore it appeared he'd lost 30 lbs in his midsection. Today Uke and Powell said they thought Cirillo was still out there. Off to Suprise manana! I may go. I decided no to today with the rain...didn't want to drive a long ways to Maryvale with the T-Storm warning and ominous clouds. Surprise is my favorite park. Phoenix Muni is the sentimental one since I worked there in the Fall, but Surprise's complex blows me away.
  17. I thought they said Krynzel had a sac bunt
  18. scoop or others, anyone going to the game today? I'm considering going still, wouldn't mind meeting another user from here edit: also should mention, 65-degrees today, 60% chance of showers. The radar shows just a few green globs over Mexico, though, so i think we'll be fine. Tomorrow is supposed to rain, too.
  19. good point on Krynzel. Krynzel has always walked a fair amount in his career. The real problem has been his poor ratio of K's and BB's. When I've seen him I've thought the problem was that he appeared to be guessing what pitch was coming, not reacting. Same problem as Billy Hall and Jose Hernandez. It's like for him to decide to take a pitch he'd say "I'm going to take a pitch." Yes, it adds a pitch to an at bat, but he wasted some good first pitch fastballs. Last year in Milwaukee he looked better with this, though. I still think he makes the club unless they add another CF. I just don't think Magruder is a viable big league option. He had two errors yesterday that led to at least 5 runs, and in Milwaukee last year he didn't show me anything offensively or defensively.
  20. I think I am most excited that Hendrickson threw 3 groundball outs in the first inning. His curve must be diving today! Had to address this one first. I was the dork at the game keeping notes (that happens when I go to a game alone). I had Ben at about 20 pitches when Magruder let the ball go over his head. If he catches it, Ben throws 2 innings allwoing a walk and a hit on a total of about 20-23 pitches. He finished at over 40, I think. I gave up on the tallies after Magruder's (mis)play, but I had him at 13 fastballs, 4 offspeed pitches. I would estimate that if Ben threw 42 pitches, he threw 6-7 offspeed pitches (curves and changeups), with at most 1 being a strike. His fastball was that good today that it was getting good big leaguers out. If you'll recall from the Fall League '03 (a long ways back), I figured he must have tons of movement, because he was throwing heaters over the plate and good top minor leaguers were barely making contact with it. Well, today Ben had that working along with another fastball. If I had to guess, he had an 88 mph 2seamer working along with a 93 mph 4seamer. There were two very distinct fastball speeds, and guys didn't do much with either of them.
  21. I'd shy away from catchers and take more 3b/arms. My reason is simple. If your farm system is well stocked at most positions, then you either trade for a C or sign an elite FA catcher. With out luck with catchers, I'm almost ready to give up on them in the top 10 rounds
  22. so will Sutton and Schroeder talk at length about Charley since he's a baseball? I like them, but I hate the obsession w/Mr. Met and others
  23. Those doubles would start magically flying over the wall and he'd probably reverse those numbers to 35 hr and 20 doubles. Leaving us with precious little idea if it was mirage or the next level in power development. but igor, wouldn't history indicate he's likely to hit .220 with an obp around .290-.300? I guess with top prospects who are supposed to make adjustments, I have no problem advancing them before they put up good statistics. But with others I tend to want to promote based on performance.
  24. What reason is there to keep Heether at Low A for the 3rd straight year? First off, is WV our A+ or A? On the brewerfan.net homepage it follows Brevard County. I was writing before as if it was our A+. For Heether my thought was that about all he did well statistically was hit 35 doubles and 17 homers. Statistically speaking, wouldn't it seem Festa is more likely to handle A+ better? If Festa starts in A and does well, that could mean Heether would wind up in A anyways, so why not start them there?
