  1. I might be nuts here guys but I would take Lee or Eovaldi and Dee Gordon for Ramirez. I like Gordon as much as a lot of you liked Taylor Green.
  2. I don't think anyone has more high upside as an OF than Justin Upton. Yes he isn't a prospect anymore, however he is a a middle of the order type bat, he'll only be 25 next month and has 3 years and about $38 million left on his contract. I'd rather take my chance with him than any prospects not named Profar or Machado, which we have all said are unrealistic gets anyways. Put another way, he isn't a Kevin Mench type acquisition.
  3. Thinking realistically here and how Melvin has operated in the past with requiring MLB talent, how about a 3 way deal involving us, Texas and Arizona: Texas gets Greinke + Arizona gets Olt, Martin Perez & Aramis Ramirez Milwaukee gets Upton, David Hernandez I'd be more than happy with this situation given Greinke's seeming unwillingness to sign long term.
  4. Didn't we just come off the All Star break? "Recharging the batteries" after one start from the ASG seems somewhat suspicious to me.
  5. This is an excellent point. However, I do not believe the two to be mutually exclusive. I for one stand firmly in the re-sign Greinke camp, with my willingness to go to a max of 6 years $120 million. Having Yo and Greinke will allow us to compete annually even in a year like this where injuries have decimated the team. I also believe the Brewers should, beginning in 2013, team build through internal resources like Fiers, Estrada, Thornburg, Narveson, Peralta or cost controlled pitchers who won't make large salaries. Essentially you have 5 guys battling for 3 spots. If we sign Greinke, then the Brewers will have to rely on the fruits of the farm system and hope a few pan out. I am comfortable with this given the frontline of Greinke and Gallardo. Similarly, the Brewers will have to rely on the farm system to produce cheap alternatives for the everyday lineup which means a trade of A-Ram, Morgan, Gomez etc. I'm not sold on Green at 3B but I'd be willing to experiment given A-Ram isn't going to see his value any higher than today in the next 2+ seasons. Additionally, Schafer should be able to provide everything Morgan and Gomez have in 2012 for a drastic reduction in salary. Losing these contracts may allow for Hart and Weeks salaries to remain on the books for another season or two before Scooter or Gamel or some other cheap source provide coverage at 1B and 2B. I think this is very feasible but is dependent upon Greinke's willingness to re-sign.
  6. +1 One of the major reasons why I struggle with certain players leaving. Fielder's contract with Detroit was ridiculous and blew our reported offer away but I would like to believe that astute players such as Ryan Braun recognize the uniqueness of being the face or faces of the franchise and the notoriety you receive by being that guy. Look at the way Robin Yount is revered versus the way Paul Molitor is perceived (Not getting into the Bando lowball, just using an example). Fielder is different because of the immense difference in contract but by leaving Milwaukee he became just another guy in Detroit while Ryan Braun could retire tomorrow and still be the new Robin Yount. I for one would place a very high dollar amount on being the face of a franchise regardless of who or where that franchise is.
  7. Singing Hamilton to pair with Braun only would recreate the issues of 2009 and 2010 where the Crew was all offense, no pitching. The rotation would most certainly be Gallardo, Estrada, Fiers, Narveson and Peralta/FA/Thornburg. That rotation doesn't win anything in 2013. Like others have said, I'd rather put that money toward Greinke and roll the dice with him than Hamilton.
  8. Dee Gordon is terrible. Disagree. He is only 24 and this is his first full year in the bigs. He hit, walked and stole bases in the minors. Maybe he is the next Carlos Gomez type prospect but considering the Brewers have no SS prospects and can get out from under Ramirez' contract at the same time, I would gladly take a package of Gordon and say Eovaldi for Ramirez and K-Rod.
  9. I'd be curious to see what they would want to part with Dee Gordon. He seems to be a perfect fit for what RR would want at the top or bottom of the order.
  10. Let's not make Rickie another JJ Hardy and trade him when his value is at its lowest.
  11. That garbage that the Magic would receive in that four team deal is not worth Howard. I would much rather take my chance with Andrew Bynum and trying to convince him to stay in Orlando after this season than having all those mediocre players Orlando would receive.
  12. If they would do a Gallardo, Ramirez & Hart for Upton & Cahill/Collmenter I would give it some very serious thought. I agree that they are likely looking for young 3B, which Hart and Ramirez are not, and young pitching which Yo is. This is all predicated of course on the Brewers ability to re-sign Greinke though. Losing Greinke via FA and Gallardo in this trade would mean a rotation of Cahill/Collmenter, Marcum, Fiers, Estrada & Narveson for next season. EESH! Having said that, a lineup with Upton, Braun, Lucroy & Weeks would be equivalent to what we have now minus the A-Ram contract. I'd investigate this for sure.
  13. I may be WAY unrealistic but I don't really care. Aces, even with only 3 months of service time remaining, aren't that easy to find. If Texas wants Greinke you have to start with Profar. Our biggest trade chip SHOULD fill our biggest hole, namely SS. Hang up the phone without him and stand firm. Secondly, Texas absolutely has the financial ability to immediately offer Greinke the Cain deal or more. If Greinke is dealt there, I firmly believe he will re-sign there. Give them a period of time to negotiate an extension before the deal to see if he will re-sign immediately. If he does, then you stand firm on Olt being in the deal as well. Profar and Olt for 5+ years of an ace like Greinke seems about right to me. If he doesn't sign a deal, then you include what is necessary to get Olt; K-Rod, Axford, whatever. At the end of it all, the Brewers, hopefully, will have effectively re-built their 3B & SS positions for the next six seasons to pair offensively with Braun, Lucroy and hopefully, Weeks and Hart. Trade Ramirez to the Dodgers for the package they were willing to give for Carlos Lee. Let Wolf walk. See what a Marcum extension would look like. Realisitically, the Brewers were always going to sink or swim with the success of Fiers, Thornburg, Peralta, Bradley and Jungmann anyways. A trade of Greinke for offensive talent such as this is the way to go if Greinke will not re-sign.
  14. In the event he is dealt, I've been curious about the Dodgers as the potential landing spot for Greinke. I'm not sure the Dodgers actually would deal for him in 2012, as their pitching has been outstanding so far and they will likely target him or Hamels after 2012 and get him without dealing the talent necessary. However, they are leading the NL West now and would give themselves a real shot at the World Series with a frontline rotation of Kershaw and Greinke. Given our dearth of talent at SS and our struggles in the bullpen if the Dodgers wouldn't put together a package of Dee Gordon, Kenley Jansen and Nathan Eovaldi for Greinke and K-Rod. May seem a lot for possibly three months of Greinke but they can slide Hairston into SS, K-Rod, Guerra or Lindblom into the closer's role and Greinke takes the rotation spot of Eovaldi. Gordon becomes our SS of the future, Jansen and Axford take the 8th and 9th and Eovaldi is a future #2 or #3 in my opinion. I think I would do that deal if I were both the Brewers and the Dodgers.
  15. I brought this up in the Kottaras thread as well but it might be worth investigating Danny Espinosa of the Nationals. While he plays 2B in Washington, he came up as an SS in the minors. No clue about his D there though. Washington has needs in CF, C and closer which are all areas of semi-relative strength in either depth or talent. I'd be willing to part with any combination of Gomez, Kottaras and K-Rod to land Espinosa.
  16. Couple of options here I think: -Kottaras and K-Rod for Ian Desmond Fills the SS need potentially long term for us. Gives them a C and potential closer while Storen is out. Lombardozzi fills in at SS for them -Kottaras for Steve Lombardozzi Lombradozzi appears to be a 2B but has some minor league experience at SS. -Kottaras & Gomez for Danny Espinosa Espinosa was a SS up until Triple AAA. They fill 2B with Lombardozzi. I would love to get Danny Espinosa now that I know that he came up as an SS. With his slump to begin the season, he might be had given Washington's apparent contender status and desires to upgrade in other spots with an heir apparent at 2B in Lombardozzi. Worth investigating.
  17. Wow...if there isn't anymore evidence that Izturis doesn't deserve to be on a major league roster. I would've preferred the squeeze to give Wolf a chance to swing. That is so pathetic.
  18. I'm not giving up on this season, but I would like to see what Wily Peralta looks like in the starting rotation.
  19. There is nothing worse than being a fan of a team full of underachievers. Ladies and Gentlemen your 2012 Milwaukee Brewers
  20. Let me take my last comment a step further...When will Johnny Narron start worrying about his performance as well? Our collective hitting has been pathetic when you consider there are 4 all-stars in our everyday lineup. I think the departure of Sveum has had the biggest impact on the 2012 Brewers vs. the 2011 Brewers.
  21. How long before Kranitz should start worrying about his performance? Gallardo, Axford, K-Rod and Veras are all underachieving with no sign of breaking out of the funks they are in. Where is the coaching?
  22. Apparently the Angels are toying with the idea of dealing Peter Bourjos to the Nationals for Jesus Flores. If they are willing to deal a Bourjos I'd be willing to give them Kottaras fOr him in a heartbeat. Bourjos is the fastest CF I have ever seen. Faster than Gomez and I love Gomez. I would strongly consider the following deal: Trumbo and Bourjos for Hart, Kottaras and K-Rod Brewers get younger and cheaper and possibly better for this year and undoubtedly for next year. Angels get a closer, an upgrade in RF and a catcher. Gamel shifts to RF in 2013. Trumbo is your 1B. Bourjos is your CF. K-Rod and Hart's salaries are off the books possibly freeing up money for SP. Our lineup would be pretty set moving forward for the next few years: CF Bourjos 2B Weeks LF Braun 3B Ramirez 1B Trumbo RF Gamel C Lucroy SS ?
  23. Chris Iannetta has a fractured wrist and is out for 6-8 weeks. The Angels have apparently already been in contact with the Nationals about trading Peter Bourjos for a catcher (per today's Los Angeles Times). After watching Trumbo play 3B it is very obvious that it is a losing battle and he is permanently blocked by Pujols at 1B. If I were Melvin, I'd be on the phone right now trying to determine if Kottaras for Trumbo would work and if not, I'd see if Kottaras and K-Rod for Trumbo + another piece would work. Put Trumbo at 1B, call up Maldonado to be the backup C. I think this has a legitimate chance of occurring if the Angels are seeking a C as badly as the Times indicates.
  24. I know its just a slump complicated by injuries but I am very sick of this team right now.
  25. http://www.fangraphs.com/blogs/index.php/baltimores-hot-start-and-the-case-of-j-j-hardy/ I feel compelled to post this as I would still do anything to see this happen...especially now.
