  1. I think one of the things we may be overlooking when it comes to Hart is his relationship with Ryan Braun. I've read multiple articles stating Braun considers Hart his best friend on the team and it's possible, while maybe not probable, that Hart's continued existence on the Brewers roster past 2013 may have something to do with his relationship with Braun. Just a thought on a slow sports day...
  2. I thought Braun's commercial was by far and away the best one. Every other one came across as stiff and not real entertaining, save for Cabrera's "MLB67" reference.
  3. While sportslogos.net got the Brewers retro hat wrong, when reviewing the Pirates hat, they did state the Pirates were the only team to hold an official unveiling and that the hat was a 5950. One would have to assume all the hats would be 5950 then, assuming this time sportslogos.net got the information correct.
  4. http://news.sportslogos.net/wp-content/uploads/2012/12/Milwaukee-Brewers-White-Panel-Helmet-1981-Robin-Yount.jpg You're right MN. I think this would look sweet as a home retro BP hat though, with the yellow panel one for a road BP.
  5. I agree PK. Having said that, I believe the Brewers did it right in the late 70s and early 80s with white panel on the ball and glove logo. Would love to see that as the home retro BP hat with the yellow one matched with a road retro BP jersey.
  6. Assuming we are not done with possible additions to the rotation, I could see the Brewers targeting Cliff Lee as long as Philly is willing to pay some of his salary. 3 years @ $75 million left on his deal, with a 4th year vesting option at $27.5 million if he pitches 200 innings in 2015 or 400 innings in 2014-2015. If the Phillies were to say offer $27.5 million to cover the possible vesting option, I would be very willing to part with some talent to get Lee. Going Lee & Gallardo #1-#2 obviously enhances the chances for the Brewers to make the postseason and win. Not sure what Philly would be interested in but they are getting old quick at 1B, 2B & SS.
  7. I get Invader's point. Wahoo is a cartoon whereas the Brave appears that it is a portrayal of a person that may have actually lived. Whether or not the usage of the logo is ok is another story, but I think that is what Invader was driving at. Switching back to the topic at hand, I hope they go with the 59-50 style hat. I will definitely purchase the retro logo one. On a side note, there is an article on sportslogos.net stating the Brewers will use the retro one as their full time road batting practice hat with the current logo batting practice jersey. That seems very odd to me. Hopefully there will be some clarity on this as that really makes no sense to mix the logos.
  8. This is essentially my take on this contract. And if the Cubs decide to flip him at any point, with the way salaries have escalated, $13M AAV over two or three seasons might even be really good value for a #3/4 type still on the right side of 30. I don't see much downside to this deal for the Cubs. It's crazy to think that Greinke was valued as being worth roughly $10M/season more than Jackson, and nearly $100M in total money guaranteed. 3.63 ERA for Greinke the past two seasons, 3.91 for Jackson. I don't in any way prefer Jackson to Greinke, aside from in a financial sense of course. Just crazy to me that there's that big of a monetary difference. While it may be apples to oranges given the hometown discount he gave the Brewers, it also makes me think about Ryan Braun and Prince Fielder contracts. Through 2020: Braun: 8 years $121.5 million ($15.19 AAV) Fielder: 8 years $191 million ($23.88 AAV) Now think about who you would rather have until they are 37 (Braun) or 36 (Fielder). Wow.
  9. 3.79 ERA & 1.38 WHIP since 2010. WHIP is a little high but if he can match his three average I think this will be a tremendous signing for the Crew.
  10. http://thebaseballgenius.com/?p=6 These would be moves I would be interested in making. Gamel for Norris or Gamel for Niemann. I would ideally like to pry Phil Hughes out of New York for a bat but I don't think Gamel would be enough to accomplish that.
  11. Good question...A more interesting question would be if he would come back at $2 million/year or so would you bring him back? 1 year at $2 million or 2 years at $4 million.
  12. Kyle Loathe?
  13. LA Times today said the Dodgers have talked to the Pirates about Capuano for Hanrahan...Wow that is a lot more than I would be willing to give up for Cappy. http://www.latimes.com/sports/baseball/mlb/dodgers/la-sp-angels-dodgers-qa-20121214,0,4937001.story
  14. This rubs me all kinds of wrong and I love Torii Hunter. He is going to be 38 in July. Hamilton is going to be 32 in May. The Angels gave Hunter a 5 year $90 million when he was 32. I think Torii should know a little bit better than to gripe about signing 32 year old Josh Hamilton vs signing 38 year old Torii Hunter.
  15. Absolutely! Imagine this pitching staff without Yo. While Yo is not a #1, Greinke, who certainly wasn't significantly better or worse than Yo when he was in Milwaukee, just got 6/$147m. I would be doing backflips if it was announced tomorrow that Yo signed a contract extension for 5/$75m.
  16. I agree as well. The way I see our rotation right now is: #2 Gallardo #4 Estrada #4 Fiers #4 Rogers #4 Peralta #5 Narveson That's the way I am anticipating the staff to perform in 2013. Yo is a very high end #2 but just short of a true ace. My own expectations about the rest of the staff are for the others to pitch like #4s. Some because of youth (Rogers & Peralta) and others because of regression to what I believe their stuff and makeup makes them (Estrada & Fiers). While I expect Rogers and Peralta to develop into low end #2s or high end #3s, I don't think they will pitch like that in 2013. I hope Estrada and Fiers prove me wrong but I think they will regress into low 4 ERA type pitchers instead of the mid 3 ERA types they were in 2012. We have the makings of a borderline annual playoff team if we pair our offense with a pitching staff with a #2, #3, #3, #4 & #4 after 2013. I think the real key to 2013 and the future though will be to see about finding another #2 who is under control for 2 or more years. If we could acquire an Ian Kennedy-type, I think the Brewers would do well to trade a big league bat and maybe some minor league depth to do so.
  17. Monty: Option #2 is going to happen in my opinion. I just don't know where, why, who or how just yet but I do have a very strong feeling Melvin will make a deal to bring in someone who he feels can be a #2 type pitcher before the beginning of 2013. Phil Hughes, Jon Lester, Ubaldo Jimenez, Jeremy Hellickson...all names that come to mind.
  18. Let's say the contracts are the same, who do you take: Marcum or Dempster?
  19. I have felt this way all along. If the idea truly is to get a veteran, innings eater then Marcum at 2 years $16-$20 million is a much more comfortable situation for me than Dempster at 3 years $36+ million. Sure he has his injury history, but whoever we sign is likely a space holder for 2013 and possible trade bait after 2013 given the development of our young pitching. Count me in on re-signing Marucm if we TRULY have to bring in a veteran to be in this year's rotation.
  20. I would go three years with Edwin Jackson in a heartbeat. I think we could get him at 3 years and somewhere between $39-$42 million. Considering he is only going to be 29, 30 and 31 during those seasons I think he would be worth the $13-$14m annually and would slide very nicely into the #2 spot in the rotation. Gallardo, Jackson, Estrada as a Top 3 is solid with Rogers/Peralta/Fiers battling for the final 2 is not a bad way to go into 2013.
  21. I really don't have an interest in Michael Bourn. He seems like a much more expensive version of Aoki to me and I would rather allocate those resources to other areas of the team.
  22. Exactly. Don't talk to me about parity in MLB until there is parity in the payrolls. It's not about winning championships, its about making the playoffs consistently in order to play for championships. Teams in MLB can buy there way into annual contention regardless of how incompetent management is. A-Rod's deal likely will not preclude the Yankees from competing for the playoffs for the 18th time in 19 seasons because they can afford to go buy a Youkilis. Sure the NFL has its teams that annually compete, the Packers & Steelers come to mind, but they do so because they are well run organizations, not because they can buy their way into annual contention.
  23. http://espn.go.com/blog/chicago/cubs/post/_/id/14283/source-cubs-have-some-interest-in-betancourt Please oh please oh please....
  24. If we were to ever go back to the ball and glove logo full time, I could see the usage of it combined with the state of Wisconsin as a sleeve patch. It is very clever.
  25. Most scouts and baseball insiders would disagree with this. In fact, most would state it's more probable that Segura moves to 2B once Weeks is gone. It's definitely not moot. I'm glad you're excited about his play in the limited action we saw him in last season, but Segura never profiled as a good-fielding shortstop and at best right now he's roughly average. That's at age 22 before any sort of skills decline in his late 20's. Ugh this just got me thinking about Weeks and his salary being dangled in conjunction with the thought of Segura moving to 2B. Not to derail the Hamilton topic but I hope the Brewers think of Segura as a SS because I could very easily see the Dodgers offering Dee Gordon and a pitching prospect (Lee?) for Weeks, especially if they sign Greinke, and the Brewers putting Gordon at SS and Segura at 2B. The Dodgers are weak at 2B and 3B and Weeks would fit that 2B hole well.
