  1. Barmes isn't worth taking on that contract when others like Ryan are or should be available. Additionally, this would severely inhibit our attempts to re-sign Fielder (just saying), Greinke and Marcum. If the Astros wanted to pay $15MM or so of the $23MM over the next two years then I could get on board but I think that is highly unlikely.
  2. Best deadline move ever.... Extend Melvin!!
  3. It's good only from the perspective that we didn't: a. Overpay for Beltran b. Trade a decent and controllable RF in Hart for a 2 month rental in Beltran Assuming we make the playoffs, I will take my chances against the Champs. Grienke v. Lincecum, Yo v. Cain, Marcum v. Vogelsong is pretty close, I like our lineup much much better, Romo/Wilson v. K-Rod/Axford is close as well. Beltran is certainly a nice piece but I think we still match up pretty well.
  4. Please! Like I've said previously, the only way a Beltran deal makes sense is if Hart is involved and it is a means to clear salary to afford a Prince extension. Let's focus on making 3 modest moves for an SS (Ryan/Barmes), a backup IF (Carroll) and a backup OF (Reed Johnson, Ryan Spilborghs) instead of the big splash
  5. And just as a side, if this deal is completed, Jackson is a FA after 2011 with Scott Boras as his agent. Carpenter is also a FA after 2011. We'll see if it helps StL make a significant run in 2011, but Rasmus appears to be a significant price to pay for a FA-to-be. I still hold firm...I'd be very upset if I were a StL fan.
  6. I'm not overly concerned. If I were an StL fan I would be furious about the possibility of trading Rasmus. As big of a pain in the butt as he appears to be, 24 year old CF like him, who aren't eligible for FA until after 2014, don't exactly grow on trees. While I like Jackson, I think I would be holding out for a little more. Maybe make him the centerpiece in a run at Ubaldo. Hopefully this is a deal that will bite the Cards more than it will help them. A 2012 rotation of Wainwright, Garcia, Jackson, Carpenter (maybe) is pretty darn good though.
  7. Thanks guys...I was expecting someone to say he was lollygagging down the line. Glad he was hustling.
  8. How was that play? I am listening at work and Ueck made it sound like Yuni was going to beat it.
  9. Getting more and more prepared to see Carlos Beltran in a Brewers uniform by next week and Corey Hart not in one. Such a lateral move... Having said that, the only thing about this deal that makes even the least bit of sense to me is if MA and DM are clearing Hart's contract to give that money to Prince. If this deal goes down, I believe it is a move to clear payroll to give Prince the $25MM/season he's looking for.
  10. In a year like this, with so much riding on the success of this season due to Prince's impending free agency and the Greinke and Marcum trades gutting our farm system, it doesn't make sense for the Brewers to continue to roll with the bench they have. Relatively modest moves for Brendan Ryan, Jamey Carroll and Reed Johnson would SIGNIFICANTLY make this team better. Imagine how much stronger the team becomes with a starting lineup that includes Ryan at SS. Now add to that a bench with: IF: Counsell, Carroll OF: Johnson, Kotsay C: Kottaras If that isn't the grittiest bench in the history I don't know what is. Heck, maybe the Brewers could trade for Kendall to complete the gritty bench look! In all seriousness though, I would be dumbfounded and put away if acquiring all of these players (Ryan, Carroll, Johnson) is something that is so farfetched and unrealistic that Melvin couldn't pull off. DFA YuniB and Wilson, sub in Carroll and Johnson and while the bench still wouldn't have much pop, it would at least be a viable bench full of veteran bats that would be better than what it is today. I am getting real scared of the rest of the season if we do not make multiple moves to make this team better by Monday.
  11. Think I'd probably pass on Wandy unless the Astros were interested in paying a good portion of his salary. He's due $23MM the next two years and he's already 32. I'd rather spend that money on re-signing Marcum.
  12. That is bizarre on the Capuano picture. I had loaded a Molitor picture where he was batting and it cut him off at the waste. It was an awesome avatar of Molitor's legs. I thought that was kind of weird so it never saw the light of day. Just out of curiosity, do some on this site have converted profiles whereas others have unconverted? What is the difference? I chose the darker of the two. I am an advocate of the return of the ball and glove jerseys with some small modifications. Those modifications include a more goldish yellow (darker version) than the bright yellow found in the original logo (your lighter version), sticking with a deep royal blue and staying away from the sky blue that is popular on the player name-number shirts. The retro uniforms just are the Brewers to me. They bring out a passion in me that the current uniforms do not. Nothing against the current ones, just I'm rather indifferent towards them, and I think a team's identity (logo and uniform) should stir passion not indifference (getting off my soapbox now). http://forum.brewerfan.net/images/smilies/smile.gif
  13. Interesting. Pujols has only led the league twice in HRs and once each in AVG and RBI. I would've expected him to have at least 3 of each. Not minimizing, just saying I was surprised. His run totals are astounding. 5x leading the league in 10+ seasons. Wow...I hate that guy.
  14. I have never noticed a sharpness drop on the board. I will say that I have always had difficulty loading clear pictures into my profile. They always appear fuzzy or distorted. It's a miracle when a picture I load works on the first go. Is it something on my end that is fixable or is it something that is Yuku being Yuku? Lets see how this one works. In the preview it looks perfect. Thanks for all the help. Really enhances the experience with a avatar that you can appreciate and call your own.
  15. Hey 1992Casey: One quick followup. I noticed the sharpness/resolution took a hit by eliminating the white box. Anyway to bring back the same sharpness/resolution AND have the white box removed or does the removal of the white box cause for the loss of sharpness/resolution?
  16. My computer skills are pretty much limited to Microsoft Office so Photoshop knowledge blows my mind. Thanks again.
  17. 1992Casey: You sir are the man. Thank you so much!
  18. <<<<< I would like to eliminate the white box surrounding the Brewers logo for my avatar. It doesn't show in the "white background" posts but it does show during "grey background" posts. Can anyone help me with this?
  19. DM's posturing in the JS today just confirms my belief that it will be Carroll, if anybody. Color me unimpressed.
  20. If this is the case, then I wouldn't be inclined to give up much in the way of prospects. Additionally, as of today, it appears that Kuroda is the #1 arm on the market (assuming Ubaldo isn't dealt). I don't think we could offer a package as enticing as the other teams in the market for an arm given the Yankees and Tigers interest level. I'd prefer DM focus on upgrading SS, 3B and the bench before exploring an area like SP.
  21. I would prefer Beckham as well, but the price would likley be expensive. Still worth investigating. Could he possibly be a target for 3B as well?
  22. Already has been discussed a little here. I am a big Stewart guy. I would love to acquire him to compete with Casey or trade for straight up. Seems like a tailor-made change of scenery type trade. Casey for Stewart.
  23. I'm not saying he would be horrible as a backup. He'd be a major upgrade over Counsell. That said, I don't want Melvin selling me that he's any sort of solution at short. If he was a lefty hitter and could be platooned, I might be on board, but he's not. I will be tremendously disappointed if they make a trade with the Dodgers and get Carroll when Furcal is available. There is lots to like about Furcal- switch hitter, tons of postseason experience, generally a solid fielder, etc. Yes, he's been bad this season due to the wrist thing, but last year he hit .300 and was an All Star, it's not like he's been circling the drain for a few years or something. Let's just say if the Brewers trade for Carroll, I'll have to replace my picture.... RockCo you and are in 100% concurrence. Trading for Carroll to be a backup at SS/3B when we have the black hole triumvirate of Betancourt/Counsell/Wilson occupying 3 roster spots is definitely an upgrade. However, this does nothing to solve the real problem which is a longterm STARTING SS upgrade. I want no part of Carroll as the 2012 starting SS. I would be comfortable with Ryan, Barmes, Desmond or Furcal opening at SS in 2012. Additionally, these are the names we likely will be looking at acquiring anyways for 2012. Why not make the move now? I just noticed on Baseball Reference, Carroll has a negative dWAR this season but he's played at 2B and SS. Anyone know, what his dWAR playing SS?
