  1. Interesting fact...if the Brewers finish .500 the rest of the way (27-26 since there are 53 games left), they go 87-75. Rluz, your prediction has them going 28-25 the rest of the way? Just curious as to why? Based on their schedule, I would think a 30-23 or so record would be a reasonable expectation given the amount of games against Houston (6 games), Chicago (6 games) and Pittsburgh (10 games) or teams they have played very well against in 2011.
  2. If we were able to win in the NLDS, I would be absolutely fine with whoever pitched Game 5 being the fourth pitcher against Philadelphia or San Francsico. This means we won a playoff series! Hooray! More importantly though, it is for this exact scenario that we have 3 stud pitchers in Greinke, Gallardo and Marcum. One of those guys most likely would have 3 or 4 days at least worth of rest to pitch Game 1 on schedule.
  3. Overbay, Thome or Giambi would be nice and a HUGE upgrade but I think any addition to replace Kotsay would have to almost certainly have the ability to play the OF. This pretty much limits it to Matsui or someone of his ilk.
  4. I'd be curious to see who would grab him before us in the National League. Honestly, I think he would probably get all the way to Cincinnati and if not them maybe Arizona before he is claimed. I just don't think Cubs, Astros, Padres, Dodgers, Rockies, Mets, Marlins or Nationals would put claims in on him when they all are likely out of the chase. Maybe the Pirates but they now have Ludwick, McCutchen and Tabata, when he returns, in the OF.
  5. I love how a small market is a team that doesn't win. Houston is a huge market, #6 in the US at 5.9m.I never said that a small market is a team that doesn't win. My point should have been that playing in huge markets such as Philadelphia, Boston and New York is totally different than playing in huge markets such as Houston, Los Angeles or Phoenix. Think that was relatively clear from the post but thanks for giving me the chance to clear up what was said.
  6. Beginning of August: 60-49 Cards (3): 2-1 @Astros (3): 2-1 @Cards (3): 1-2 Pirates (3): 2-1 Dodgers (4): 3-1 @Mets (3): 1-2 @Pirates (4): 2-2 Cubs (3): 2-1 Cards (2): 1-1 August Record: 16-12 End of August Record: 76-61
  7. From our end, Greinke and Marcum are subtantially better and the focus is on them to be re-signed. From the Yankees and/or Red Sox end, I think it's about a certain mentality to pitch in those markets. Greinke didn't strike the Yankees as being able to handle the NYC market. I see Wandy as fitting that same mentality. Good small market pitcher, mediocre big market pitcher and for $12MM per you don't make that investment. Not sure if that's their thinking but it makes sense to me.
  8. This was one of the most bizarre untouchables in recent memory. Why would you not make 32 year old Barmes available when you have Angel Sanchez at SS, Jose Altuve at 2B and Chris Johnson at 3B AND you're dealing players like Bourn and Pence?? Ed Wade must be related to Jim Hendry and Andy MacPhail.
  9. Yuni's body language doesn't help him...whereas I see McGehee and Fielder actually hustling after bobbled balls or balls not hit right at them, Yuni just appears to be lollygagging a lot of times. This may be one of the reasons why he is ridden so hard by us fans. Just my observation.
  10. Interesting scheduling note for the rest of the season...we only have one away series outside the division the rest of the season (Mets in August).
  11. Disappointment from my end only comes from the fact that the players who could have theoretically upgraded the SS position were not made available. If Barmes and or Brendan Ryan were available and we did not make the move then that is on Melvin. I would have liked to have seen Furcal and that may come back to bite us considering he went to the Cards but I can understand if Melvin was scared off by his medical past. Ryan and Barmes were the only safe bets for upgrades at SS, however, if they truly weren't available, I'm not exactly sure how anyone can be disappointed.
  12. Would you trade Gamel for a division title and a good chance at a pennant and possibly more? Can you guarantee that pennant and possibly more? No. And FWIW, it will cost more than Gamel.
  13. Absoultely. Assuming, Ramirez would waive his no-trade to most anywhere, the Cubs would call the Angels immediately after our offer and just ask them to top it. If A-Ram is traded, he's going to Orange County.
  14. I would do this deal. Don't know if the White Sox would but it's mandatory that Beckham or Ramirez are in any deal that includes Dunn or Rios and their salary. I don't care either way what the combo is (Beckham/Rios, Beckham/Dunn, Ramirez/Rios, Ramirez/Dunn) but that's the only way I do it.
  15. Here's a thought, would you trade Gamel to the Cubs for a two month rental of A-Ram? I'm not sure I would.
  16. I just don't believe that we will take on Rios just to acquire a LRP like Thornton. Certainly there is another LRP out there that doesn't require us to take on any salary such as Rios. If we are taking on a salary like Rios, even at a reduced cost, it most certainly would involve a larger hole like SS than LRP.
  17. I think that given the track record of MA and DM you don't have to worry about the checkbook or stepping up to the plate. They have proven their ability to do so. This would all be about the Cubs willingness to trade in the division and that's it.
  18. Yeaaaaaaaaaaaah....grain of salt. This may happen but it sure does seem like we have bigger fish to fry now that Rickie is hurt. If Rios is involved I would hold steady for Beckham or Alexei and if they don't want to deal either of them then I don't see a fit.
  19. If the Brewers can get Furcal/Barmes/Ryan, I'd be more inclined to sign Bill Hall as a hold me over to split time at 2B with Lopez until Rickie comes back than trade a prospect for Adam Kennedy. Kennedy can be had in the offseason if we really want him. Lopez v. Kennedy at 2B would be close enough to a push that trading a prospect is not worth it to me
  20. I like Maldonado. A lot. He could be the backup to Lucroy for the forseeable future. His D would be very welcome behind the plate. I would be more apt to trade them Kottaras for Kennedy and call up Rivera. Now, if Seattle wants to get serious; if they offered Ryan for Maldonado I would have to think long and hard. A future backup C for a starting SS now seems worth it.
  21. Guys I really hate to be a wet blanket on this because I would love him in Milwaukee as well but if he truly is waiving his no trade clause the Angels will get this done. Now, if like Brewer Fever says and it is truly about A-Ram not wanting to move his family and stay close, well yeah, the Brewers are the obvious choice. But to me the cost of getting him will be higher than it already is for the Cubs to help us try to win the World Series. Think Gamel and one of Peralta or Thornburg. Flip the situation...what would it take for you to trade Prince to the Cubs or Cards and help them win the World Series if we were 20 games under .500 right now? Without even hesitating I would ask for Castro and if they didn't want to move him then they can start with their Top 2 prospects in the system. I'm not about to help the Cubs and Cards win without them overpaying big time when I can just as easily trade him to someone who isn't our rival. Imagine the heat Hendry would take if A-Ram led us to a World Series and a championship. No matter what Gamel and Peralta did, even if they were the second coming of Ryne Sandberg and Ferguson Jenkins, that trade would still be a blemish on Cubs history.
  22. Looking like it's going to be Greinke-Carpenter, Marcum-Garcia, Wolf-Jackson. Going to go right through their newly minted Big 3. Would have been fun to see Gallardo-Jackson but I ain't scared. Hopefully we have some new toys to throw out there at them on Monday.
  23. Tend to agree RockCo. If Furcal is acquired, once Weeks gets healthy we will have those 2 starting with some combination of Betancourt/Counsell/Wilson/Lopez. I would tend to go with Lopez & Wilson in that scenario but I'm guessing it would be Lopez & Counsell.
  24. I hope you're right PEM. Once healthy, a middle IF of Furcal and Weeks has the potential to be pretty good. I can't wait to see the lineup if that were to occur. Quick guess would be: Furcal, Morgan, Braun, Fielder, Weeks, Hart, McGehee, Lucroy...Wow. That looks pretty nice.
  25. If true, I promise, PROMISE he will be in an Angels uniform. All I hear in SoCal is about the black hole at 3B in Anaheim. This will get done and there will be nothing we can do about it. Reagins is desperate to fill that hole. I wouldn't be surprised if Pena was included as well with the Cubs getting a Mark Trumbo back.
