  1. Splitter, any insider info on what the years and money involved would be from the Brewers perspective?
  2. And if this is true I hope he waits all next offseason for this. I would be hard pressed to give him even the Werth contract. 7years/$126MM for Fielder would take him to age 35 or about 2-3 years before I believe he will be a full time DH. Legitimately, I believe his asking price is 8years/$180MM and will likely get around 7years/$160MM
  3. But Gomez is the Mets #3 prospect, he must be good.
  4. At least then you would get to look at Sarah Michelle Gellar, Alyson Hannigan and Michelle Trachtenberg. Don't forget Eliza Dushku... ...and it's conversations like these that keep me coming back to this forum.http://forum.brewerfan.net/images/smilies/laugh.gif
  5. And then get JJ back to play SS! I'm all in! Notice that there is no blue font... On a more real level, I have been thinking about this more and whether Escobar still has some real pop to his name when it comes to interest. I for one would not miss Escobar. I hope he proves me wrong but I think what we saw last year is what we'll get for his career more or less. Obviously I would have to see the deal but if adding Escobar to Prince could get Billingsley/Loney, I wouldn't flinch or lose any sleep over that.
  6. I'd be depressed if our rotation is rounded out by one of those guys.
  7. May be stating the obvious here but that rotation screams for one more #2 ala Garza, Billinglsey, Shields. I'll feel great about our chances if Wolf is the #4.
  8. If the Rays do Cain/Gamel/+ for Upton and Garza, I immediately call the Dodgers and say Fielder/Parra for Billingsley/Loney. Will they take that? Good God though...imagine that SP: Gallardo Marcum Garza Billingsley Wolf EDIT: Oops. Walked away from the computer. Didn't see the new link. Quick newsday!
  9. If this trade is made I would go on a baby-punching rampage, figuratively speaking. Broxton and Loney for Fielder does nothing for the Brewers long-term in my opinion. If the Dodgers want to get serious about Fielder they can start with either one of these deals: *Loney and Billingsley for Fielder and Parra Assuming another deal for a SP isn't completed, if Fielder is dealt it must be for a SP. Billingsley is worth a Fielder from the Dodgers perspective. He's the consistent hitter they lack other than Ethier. *Kemp and Loney for Fielder and McGehee Like I said in the Cain trade thread, if the Brewers swing an additional deal like Cain+ for a Garza/Jurrjens-esque SP, then Fielder can be dealt for hitters. Gamel at 3B and Loney at 1B with Kemp in CF. This is my preferred deal. I like the idea of Loney in Milwaukee but only at the right price.
  10. And this may just be the best way to sum this trade up. I'm taking the wait and see approach, but if Marcum pitches like he has over the past few seasons with Gallardo-esque numbers, even if Lawrie becomes a Ryan Braun, we have won this trade.
  11. Interesting fact: Not only is Shaun Marcum's number 1 comparable on Baseball Reference Yovani Gallardo (as mentioned earlier), but so is Jair Jurrjens Yes please!
  12. This just became the best trade in Brewers history. I despise Bros. Nice abs Lawrie.
  13. If this trade of Cain+ for Garza were to go down, I would immediately change my demands on Fielder to a bat. With Gallardo, Marcum and Garza at the front of the rotation for the next 2+ years, the Brewers would theoretically be set at pitching in the short term but now have a glaring weakness in the OF. Dickerson and Gomez are career backups, not starters. If in fact, the Loney whispers are true, the Dodgers would be the team I would be targeting and Matt Kemp has fallen out of favor with the team and may be available. But in my perfect dream world the following plays out before the 2011 season begins: -Marcum is acquired for Lawrie -Weeks signs extension -Garza is acquired for Cain+ -Loney is traded by the Dodgers -Fielder is dealt straight up for Matt Kemp. The Dodgers may do this because of the need to replace Loney and with Fielder being the dynamic power threat their lineup is missing. Kemp is an ideal fit for the Brewers who now would lack a CF and the Brewers could shift Hart/Braun/Gamel to 1B. I think Kemp for Fielder straight up is a win for both teams. If all this were to go down...WOW: Weeks Kemp Braun Hart McGehee Gamel Lucroy Escobar Gallardo Garza Marcum Wolf Capuano/Narveson A guy can dream right? The best thing about this dream is that I don't think it is all that far fetched either.
  14. And here's just one more reason to hate the JJ Hardy deal. A player like Boggs, who can seemingly produce at least Gomez-esque levels based on his 2008 Rangers season, can be had for peanuts. Yet we traded a mid-20s HR everyday middle infielder for Gomez. Spilled milk I know but man...
  15. Agreed! And because of this I now firmly believe Weeks IS NOT going to be extended and Fielder IS going to be extended http://forum.brewerfan.net/images/smilies/laugh.gif
  16. I'd have to believe this is the perfect situation for the Brewers. Rogers and Jeffress probably aren't quite ready yet for the Show and there is no guarantee Jeffress would be used as a starter anyways. Signing Vazquez to a 1 year deal where he would want to prove himself could theoretically bridge the gap to Rogers either at midseason where Vazquez could be traded or April 2012.
  17. Haven't heard anything on this since last week. Hopefully that phone call between Melvin and Weeks laid the groundwork for the extension to get done soon. Good to see Weeks at least interested in re-upping unlike the [expletive deleted] Prince and Boras were spouting last year. (edit: language... please see FFE re "BS" --1992)
  18. No...this will ruin my hopes of him one day buying the Brewers and spending gobs of money to ensure the Prince Fielders of the baseball world never leave Milwaukee.
  19. If Prince and/or McGehee are traded, Hinske should only be signed in the event the Mat Gamel experiment fails. I'd rather Gamel get the playing time at either 3B if McGehee is traded or 1B/RF if Fielder is dealt. Anything else does a extreme disservice to the long term success of the team in my opinion.
  20. Agreed. If we were to get Greinke or someone on par with him, I would keep Fielder and see how this season plays out. I immediately would begin long term negotiations with the newly acquired Greinke or equivalent and be content to take the 2 picks for Fielder after this season because signing Greinke/equivalent would almost guarantee Fielder is gone. Additionally, the two picks gained from Fielder would theoretically fill the prospect void created by trading for a Greinke.
  21. Replacing 2B that can hit 30 HR, drive in 80+ runs, steal 20 bases and have an OBP in the high .300s like Weeks tend to be quite expensive on the FA market.
  22. I have no problem with Escobar being our starting SS. I never said we shouldn't trade Lawrie, just that we shouldn't if we don't need to. He's valuable, not expendable. I don't know that we would need to trade him to get Greinke. I have a massive problem with Escobar being our SS. Maybe it was just my mancrush on Hardy and what he "could" provide based on two 20+ HR seasons with a .270-280 average that has me all kinds of upset at Escobar's lack of productivity. I also felt JJ would've been able to stay here with Braun, Weeks, Hart and form a core four of everyday players for the next decade and fill in the gaps around them with the McGehees, Gamels, Cains and Lucroys of the world once Fielder was dealt. That obviously didn't happen. As for Lawrie, I guess my only point is that if Lawrie is what it takes to get Greinke, I would do it. Not saying it will cost Lawrie but if they insisted I wouldn't be adverse to dealing him, with the caveat that Rickie is extended. This team can compete for the NL Central now with a two headed monster at #1 and #2 regardless of whether Prince is here or not. Those windows don't stay open forever and the opportunity to get an ace shouldn't be wasted in my opinion.
  23. My absolute favorite off all is the late 1980s to early 1990s away jersey. Best Brewer jersey of all time. I wish they would go back to these. 1993 Yount Away Jersey
  24. This is the type of thinking that lead to A. Escobar being your starting SS. I for one was never in the trade JJ camp. Escobar was pegged to be a .260 hitter with amazing D. Well that certainly didn't work out in his rookie season. This isn't to say he won't eventually develop but look at the can't miss LaPorta. He's been in the bigs for almost 2 seasons and still hasn't proven to be worth Sabathia to the Indians. While I am in agreement with you about Lawrie being a top prospect, I'll take a proven big leaguer and Ace like Greinke over a prospect anyday of the week.
  25. Just from my informal observations at Brewer games, bars and places like the Clubhouse store at Brookfield Square, as well as my travels around Wisconsin, the ball and glove logo and player name t-shirts, replica jerseys and fan paraphernalia with that logo and colors overwhelmingly outnumber that of the current logo. Simply from a business standpoint, when the demand of the fan base screams the past is better than the present, why haven't the Brewers made the switch? I can't for the life of me (and I have a master's in business) understand this. I'd love to be proven wrong because I genuinely feel if the Brewers do one thing right, it is the marketing of the team. Even if the reason for not switching is because of the dollars associated with having two different sets of logos to purchase, I still don't feel that really answers the issue. Marketing the less popular current logo as the main logo sure does seem bass ackwards. I'm curious if anyone has heard from the Brewers doing a formal research project to determine the fan response and viability to switching to the old logo and color scheme because my informal research tells me they are missing the boat. Any insight?
