  1. http://nypost.com/2017/07/25/the-yankees-prospects-as-covet-in-sonny-gray-sweepstakes/ So the Brewers offer for Quintana started with Ray and Ortiz...I imagine this is the beginning of their offer for Gray as well. Depending on the third piece, this is exactly who I would be most comfortable moving in a Gray deal.
  2. I would do a Ray, Diaz, Villar, Cordell and Supak for Dee and Ramos. I wonder if they would be interested in something like this.
  3. I will be curious to see what position Hiura ends up long term. Is it guaranteed he will end up at 2B? What other position is possible if not there?
  4. Agreed. Assuming Anderson and Nelson have turned the corner and this is who they are now, acquiring Gray would make for a nice top 3 but not necessarily in the company of Scherzer/Strasburg or Kershaw/Wood, especially given both the Nationals and Dodgers lineups are also deeper than the Brewers. If Gray cannot be acquired by a depth trade, meaning a trade headlined by Ray/Woodruff/Ortiz/Dubon rather than an elite one headlined by Brinson/Hader, I think the Brewers rightfully should pass.
  5. I would like this move given Counsell's propensity to run. However, I would not offer a significant amount of talent to acquire him (Cordell-type) given Dubon is in Triple AAA and Diaz is still coming. A deal of Cordell and Villar for Dee is about the extent of what I would offer.
  6. Justin Wilson and Justin Verlander for Ray, Dubon, Cordell, Broxton and the Brewers take on all of Verlander's salary. Tigers get our #8, #9 prospects from Baseball America and they get 2 OFs that play in MLB immediately and the salary relief. Phillips and Brinson platoon in CF for the rest of the season in Milwaukee. Is this realistic?
  7. This. For 2017, if the Brewers are to acquire a possible TOR arm, I would much rather take on salary and keep top prospects that it would take to acquire a Gray. Taking on a substantial amount of Verlander's salary should not preclude the Brewers from making other moves if need be given most of the Brewers position players are pre-arbitration or have cost control. Verlander and taking on salary or Gray and giving up to prospects...I'll take Verlander.
  8. Why not just say you don't want to give up what it will take to get Gray instead of saying you like Phillips so you would offer a bunch of lesser prospects? Ray/Harrison/Medeiros? Come on that's not even a competitive offer. Ray is a good prospect, but those secondary prospects do not have that much value. See the words "ideal scenario." You are speculating on what it will take to acquire Gray as well. Who would've thought Doolittle and Madson could be acquired for what they were or JD Martinez could've been acquired for what he was? If it takes more it takes more, but Ray and Harrison is a decent start. If they need a Ortiz or Woodruff so be it, but that is not the "ideal scenario" I was referencing in the original post.
  9. I am growing quite fond of Phillips and his defensive ability in the OF. If the Brewers truly do not have to part with Brinson or Hader, I would start with a package of Ray and Harrison and see if they bite on a lesser SP prospect like Medeiros. Additionally, I would be willing to toss in Broxton if they need an MLB player now. Ray, Harrison, Medeiros and Broxton for Gray seems enough for me. Platoon Brinson and Phillips in CF for the rest of the season and play one in LF when Braun needs a day off. This would be my ideal scenario for the Brewers at the deadline.
  10. I would give Beane the option of choosing one from each of the lists below: A. Starting Pitcher: Ortiz, Woodruff B. Outfielder: Ray, Clark and either C. Outfielder: Cordell OR D. 2 of the Following: Medeiros, Orimoloye, Devin Williams, Supak, Reed I think that package is enticing enough given Oakland will be receiving from MLB.com's prospect list: A.: #4 or #8 B: #2 or #6 C: #16 D: #18, #24, #27, #28, #29
  11. Second this statement. This is the precise type of move I would prefer they stick with at this point unless a bargain is there for an ace. Despite that, I am fully expecting a trade of Ray, Dubon and a low end SP for Sonny Gray
  12. Second. This idea deserves its own thread
  13. Phillips and Ortiz is the starting point for someone like Chris Archer. I would be so disappointed if they traded those two for a reliever.
  14. Jeffress for Neftali?
  15. I'm old enough that if they draft a college pitcher named Peterson, it's going to be hard on a gut level to get happy about.
  16. I am all for this. I like the idea of us getting some of our pitching prospects up now and giving them time to develop out of the bullpen. I have been thinking this would be the best way to develop them while hopefully solidifying the bullpen.
  17. If he hits and plays solid D, I could see the lefty/righty platoon with him and Broxton in CF. I don't see any issue with that.
  18. Excited to see Phillips on the field. His off field personality makes it easy to root for him. Hope he becomes the regular LF in Braun's absence.
  19. I would love to see Yelich in Milwaukee. I wouldn't deal Hader or Woodruff but would deal any of the OF prospects not named Brinson as the headliner of the package. Thinking outside the box, I would happily deal Arcia and Brett Phillips/Corey Ray/Trent Clark for Yelich. Move Villar back to SS, start Sogard at 2B and worry about filling 2B in the upcoming FA class or via some other method.
  20. This is tired. We are stuck with a guy who has done nothing but hit his entire career and has not shown signs of slowing down from a hitting standpoint. Sure he has his injuries but we only know for sure that Puig and McCarthy were part of the Dodgers offer and I would rather have kept Braun than take on Puig. What prospects were included is purely speculative. Braun is not hampering the payroll nor is he inhibiting Brinson, Phillips or any other OF prospect from coming up. If the Brewers are competing in the next 2-3 years, I would rather have a 34-35 year old Braun and Brinson in the lineup than Puig/Broxton and Brinson.
  21. I 100% agree with this. Domingo continues to show he is a very good offensive RF. He is also 2 years and 3 months younger than Keon.
  22. While I am all for acquiring TOR talent like Archer and Cobb...this would absolutely GUT the system. This would likely mean Villar moves to SS, Brinson moves to RF, Perez/Franklin/Sogard at 2B. While I would love to acquire these guys, (especially given Archer is not a FA until after 2021, although Cobb is one after this season) it seems more like a Dombrowski-big market move than a Stearns-small market one.
  23. Arcia is hitting in the hardest spot in the order right now and is gradually showing improvement on his offensive approach. If the Brewers wanted to give him a little boost to see better pitches, move him to #2 in the order in front of Braun and Thames and see what he looks like. Acquiring Cozart and starting him over Arcia is a completely backwards way of thinking for a rebuilding team.
  24. If Attanasio begins to intervene in the day-to-day operation of this organization, after Stearns has completely rebuilt the farm system in two years, I foresee Stearns being gone in very short order. I also agree that after the 2014 meltdown, Attanasio had an epiphany about how to build a small market team. In fact, given his success in less than two years, I imagine Attanasio is already preparing for how he can keep Stearns in Milwaukee for a significant amount of time.
