  1. After a day to think about it, the only pick I am not especially high on is Feliciano, and I really have no legitimate reason for that. Seems like the Brewers are drafting pretty well according to the professionals.
  2. Kyle Lewis seemed like a very polished young man. Enjoyable to listen to him speak.
  3. From MLB.com: 5. Milwaukee Brewers: OF Corey Ray, Louisville Callis: There was some chatter before the weekend that Ray might fall to the bottom of the top 10, but this makes a lot more sense. I love the power/speed combination, and while we don't know if he can play center field, he has the speed to at least give it a shot. He still profiles well at the corner outfield spots.
  4. Agreed...would much preferred Rutherford to Ray.
  5. Could be a very interesting OF of .280 -.300, 15-25 HR and 20-40 SB across the board players if they all reach their ceilings... Of course Jeff Juden, Jimmy Haynes and Jamey Wright could comprise 3/5 of their starting rotation...
  6. Man... How do you not go for a top of the rotation pitcher?
  7. Please no Lewis...that seems like an old Brewer regime pick.
  8. Groome and Puk there...wow. So amazing that the Brewers could potentially pass on those potential top of the rotation arms.
  9. So if we don't draft a P...seems like it will be Ray or Rutherford? Who do you want?
  10. So we are now guaranteed Puk, Pint or Groome...should we be upset if they do not select one of them?
  11. Amen. If the Brewers are fully committed to a rebuild and building a team through the draft and one of Puk, Groome or Pint are there, you have to take the chance at a top of the rotation starter rather than the all star bat. Put another way, if we could see the future and Rutherford became the next Trout and Groome the next Kershaw, who would you be praying the Brewers take? I know who I would be praying for and it isn't even close.
  12. I will not complain with any of Puk, Groome, Pint or Rutherford. My only complaint will be with an under slot guy to save money later.
  13. No offense, as everyone has an opinion and yours is warranted...but you've only got 15 years to play if you're Braun. Other guys may only have 1, 2, 5, a shorter window of years to play. If you're not going to win in Milwaukee, why not go and win somewhere else? As an athlete, that's what I'd want. I can always come back to Milwaukee and sign autographs later. http://espn.go.com/mlb/story/_/id/16002469/looking-future-milwaukee-brewers-move-ryan-braun-jonathan-lucroy I find this article especially interesting when Braun says the following:
  14. Second this...with the Brewers rebuilding, I think a lottery pick at #5 like Groome or Pint is the way to go. I will be upset if we take Perez if for no other reason than the Brewers always seem to find hitting and will never be able to acquire impact pitching via FA. The draft is the only way they can truly rebuild the staff. If Groome or Pint don't pan out and Perez becomes the next Correa, then so be it.
  15. Scooter needs to go. He makes mental mistakes that are pretty easily avoidable.
  16. None taken...I think it's just a difference of opinion on the matter. I think my position really can be summed up by the reverence the Brewers organization and fans show towards Robin Yount versus what is shown towards Paul Molitor. Regardless of the reasons why he left, Molitor is somewhat shunned by the organization for lack of a better word. While Molitor is certainly viewed as a great Brewer, he will forever pale in comparison to Yount in the minds of the Brewers. No statue outside of Miller Park. Limited involvement in the organization post-retirement and pre-managerial stint in Minnesota. Sure he won two World Series in Toronto, but I would much prefer to be Yount in Milwaukee than Molitor in Milwaukee, Toronto or Minnesota.
  17. I know we aren't professional athletes and we can only speculate, but if I am Braun, I am worried about my legacy more than being a hired gun. Sure, I would want to win a World Series before I retire, but I would rather be the next Robin Yount, albeit a tainted one due to the PED issue, and be a career Brewer. This has nothing to do with me being a fan of the Brewers, rather it has everything to do with me wanting to be a lifer in one uniform. If I were a Red or Pirate or Rockie I would love to spend my entire career there. Sure Prince has $200+ million, but he could have been an all-time great in Milwaukee rather than just another guy at 32. Same with any of these guys who leave small markets for big dollars. Just my non-professional athlete opinion on the subject.
  18. If the proposed deal were: Lucroy and Carter for Brinson, Tate and Fielder I would do this immediately. Looking at it both from through the lenses of business and baseball, putting Braun and Fielder out there would be amazing for the Brewers business as it would harken back to a better time (2008 and 2011) while allowing the rest of the team to rebuild. The focus on Braun and Fielder reunited, regardless of record, would certainly attract some casual fans to the ballpark. Regardless of what we as non-casual Brewer fans believe is the best way to build a baseball team, the business aspect certainly will always play some role in determining a portion of the product on the field. From a baseball perspective though, this deal would also make sense. Having a future OF of Brinson, Santana and Phillips, and allowing them to grow naturally (meaning they may come up and may have to be sent back down) would certainly be beneficial. Having Braun in the OF still would enable this. Adding in Arcia and Villar, who is starting to resemble a building block, and you hopefully have 5 of your 8 position players locked in for the next half decade. All the while still trotting out Braun and Fielder. Call me sentimental but I would much enjoy this idea.
  19. Paying Braun right now is not an issue for the Brewers so why pay any part of his salary? To acquire Braun, perhaps the premier bat on the trade market, means paying in appropriate prospects without salary relief. If I am the Brewers and I am not offered prospects on par with Braun's talent, I will gladly pay him he isn't hamstringing the payroll and he isn't blocking a superstar prospect. Furthermore, during the next 5 years, he could begin approaching some seriously promotable numbers that could continue to attract fans to the park during the rebuild. He is only 136 HR away from 400, 506 hits away from 2000, 624 RBI from 1500...all of which should be reached within the next 5 seasons. I remain on board with keeping Braun for the duration of his contract unless someone is willing to pay the fair price to acquire his talent.
  20. Those were the batting practice uniforms from 2015. Didn't think these were still around for 2016.
  21. I still prefer the royal and yellow ball and glove logo myself but like having both shades of blue, with one to be designated to use as an alternate (like the Rays do with the navy and baby blue). I am also hopeful for the re-branding in the form of the Blue Jays and Astros. A modernization of the ball and glove, be it royal or navy, and pinstripes would be a nice way to move forward. While I like the navy ball and glove, there is something off for me with the combination of it with the current Brewers script. Ready for the total re-boot.
  22. I think most of the fans here on this site, or educated Brewer fans, while appreciating the all out hustle, tired of the type of player the Brewers seemed to be employing prior to 2016 (i.e. lack of general baseball awareness/mental mistakes and plate discipline). While I love Gomez and his enthusiasm, he was the personification of that era of Brewer baseball and, as such, became the lightning rod for the criticism as he was the largest personality.
  23. No question about that. But the key is can he be close to these numbers 3 months from now, and then hopefully have a hot streak during the trade window? Like I said earlier, teams aren't stupid they know what Chris Carter is. At the same time, teams recognize adding a power hitter who is hot, even it only lasts a month or two. Which reminds me a lot of Adam Lind and the return we received for him. While we will not know the impact of the three young pitchers the Brewers received for him, it was very hard at the time to not think the Brewers could've/should've gotten more for Lind. The rest of the league knows these players too.
  24. While buying low on Peralta makes some sense to contenders given his 2014 numbers, it makes zero sense for the Brewers to sell low on Peralta. As long as the Brewers are in full rebuilding mode, I would much rather run him out there every 5 days than sell him for the type of prospect/s that he is likely worth at this point.
