  1. Not really outside of the title. Nothing Lucroy said made it sound like that was the case. Though he made it pretty clear he expects to be traded at some point. But surprised he hasn't yet? No. The fact that he doesn't have a place to live in Milwaukee yet 12 days from Opening Day pretty much removes all doubt as to whether he is shocked to still be a Brewer.
  2. I was at both Brewer games yesterday. Two things: 1. Scooter's hits against Corbin were not bloops. They were loud line drives. That's a positive. 2. Nottingham's HR...kid has some serious thump.
  3. Assuming we know the starters and cannot change them...what I would do with those 8 players but not necessarily what I think they will do: 2B Gennett C Lucroy LF Braun RF Santana 3B Hill 1B Carter CF Broxton SS Villar What I think they will do: SS Villar C Lucroy LF Braun 1B Carter 3B Hill RF Santana 2B Gennett CF Broxton
  4. What are everyone's thoughts on Lucroy sticking around to help develop the young pitching staff? While I know I would prefer he be dealt, as I think he has more value in bringing back young, controllable talent for when the Brewers are competitive again, I also could see the rationale of him sticking around to help develop young pitchers while also working to groom Nottingham as his heir apparent. Granted, this seems more like a Melvin move than a Stearns move, but if the trade value isn't there the value isn't there. I guess the question becomes, would you be more upset if Lucroy stayed a Brewer for the next 2 seasons or if Lucroy was traded for a lousy package?
  5. It's rather astounding to me that the Brewers may not have options in the Valley. As I alluded to earlier, Gila River should mirror what occurred at Talking Stick and create a greater destination point for their Wild Horse Pass Casino. I have to imagine locating an MLB Spring Training site at or near their casino and hotel would do wonders for increasing their business and footprint in the Valley.
  6. Lucroy to Texas just makes too much sense. At this stage in Spring Training, my ideal scenario with Texas would be to send Lucroy and Will Smith for Lewis Brinson, Dillon Tate and Jurickson Profar.
  7. I am not familiar with the Native American money in and around the Phoenix area. Was Talking Stick, which hosts the Diamondbacks and Rockies, financed by the Native American tribe? I know in the past, the Brewers have been linked to Gila River and they have a pretty substantial presence in the Phoenix area. Is it possible they would fund a stadium to go near their casino west of Chandler, where the 10 and 202 come together?
  8. The gentleman who posted the original tweet has posted a linked article with some pieces of new information: http://www.azcentral.com/story/sports/mlb/cactus-league/2016/03/05/bud-selig-cactus-league-brewers/80923446/
  9. I am not giving much credence to this when this guy posted this after Attanasio's initial Spring Training press conference...https://twitter.com/ThatGrouchyGuy/status/702947046244782082 Having said that, this would be beyond disappointing.
  10. How about the Brewers paying Garza's salary in order to get a better prospect?
  11. It's interesting hearing this. The family I have that was raised in Arizona versus the family that was raised in Wisconsin have totally different views on what is and is not close. The distances between Goodyear, Scottsdale, Glendale and Mesa are nothing to the family who grew up in Arizona as they are used to driving some distance daily. Whereas, the family that grew up in Wisconsin think it's an all day trip driving from Wauwatosa to St. Francis. Funny to see the difference in perspectives.
  12. From what I have heard from family that lives in Peoria/Glendale/Surprise, this area is the next area in Phoenix that is anticipated to see a rapid amount of development. If that is the case, then perhaps the Brewers complex will be the spark that ignites that development. Nate, given your location is Phoenix, is this what you are hearing as well?
  13. If this is an assessment of the Maryvale area, then I can get on board with the statement. However, if this is an assessment of the stadium and the practice fields themselves, then it is a very large overstatement. Take the stadium site and practice fields and place them into Glendale, Scottsdale, Surprise or Peoria and it becomes one of the best venues in Arizona.
  14. I really hope Attanasio is purely posturing on the potential of a Florida relocation. Whatever happened to the talk of them potentially moving to the Vistancia area in Peoria off of the 303? I know the Brewers had contributed to one council member who was supposedly spearheading the effort.
  15. Have to wonder what Texas' plan is with Gallo now that they signed Desmond to play LF and are considering extending Beltre. While it is apparent that Gallo likely needs more time in the minors, one has to wonder if Texas isn't considering this a potential all in year/s perhaps. A move for Lucroy and Smith for some combination of high end prospects seems too obvious to not occur.
  16. I would love to get Reed...Man is he a big boy though in the belly area.
  17. Quick fun story... Ran into Nottingham's older brother, who I knew previously before the trade. He works at a restaurant in my hometown. He never knew I was from Wisconsin and when I told him I was and I was a Brewer fan, he got real excited. High fives across the bar and a bunch of Brewer talk. His older brother is almost as big as Jacob so he comes from good genes. Thought I'd share.
  18. Briggs, I don't understand your over the top pessimistic view of Santana. Perhaps it's in the delivery of your posts but your unabashed pessimism towards Santana and praise of others who have proven less than him, leads to your opinions carrying no weight. What's the deal with your opinion of Santana?
  19. I am all for a defensive minded catcher like Austin Hedges, but man it looks like he will be struggling with the Mendoza line constantly given his MiLB statistics. He better be Yadier Molina behind the plate and the Brewers better have a lineup full of high OBP players if he is your regular C.
  20. Is Smith for Kepler straight up fair value?
  21. I couldn't think of a more disappointing return for Lucroy alone than Baez and Montero. To think we would have to include Smith AND Villar to acquire Baez, well that just makes no sense whatsoever. With the word that Adrian Beltre is close to an extension with Texas, does anyone believe that will open them to dealing Gallo? If so, would Lucroy, Peralta and Smith be enough to get Gallo, Brinson and another piece?
  22. Your feeling on the subject mirrors mine Reilly. If the Brewers aren't offered something by the middle of Spring Training, I think you most likely will see Lucroy in a Brewer uniform until the Trade Deadline, and more likely, next winter. The position of catcher in baseball seems to mirror that of quarterback in football. Knowing the signs, play calls, pitchers, pitch sequence, etc... seems like a lot to learn midseason. I would think if the Brewers are going to maximize Lucroy's value it would be during an offseason where the team receiving Lucroy would have at least some of Spring Training to develop with their starting staff. Hope to hear of a Lucroy deal within the next 72 hours.
  23. This pretty much sums up my feelings in the subject. I think the casual fan needs something to cheer for and Braun, while the PED thing will still affect some opinions of him, the reality is he has been nothing short of amazing with the amount of contrition shown. Additionally, his comments regarding the rebuild shows me he won't mind guiding the new prospects in the majors and showing them the ropes of being a ballplayer in the Majors. This cannot be overlooked as I believe leadership over a 162 game regular season is monumental. Keep Braun.
  24. With the acquisition of Nottingham, I think it really opens the door to take the best prospect package available regardless of position in a Lucroy deal. Brinson for CF, Trea Turner for 2B...really think it's about the accumulation of prospects now more than ever.
  25. Nottingham is from my hometown in California. Got a new favorite Brewer!
