  1. I certainly would be tempted... A rotation next year of Harvey, deGrom, Wheeler, Niese, Matz plus having Gomez in the OF is arguably better than having Syndergaard with no Gomez. Additionally, the Mets have the financial wherewithal to re-sign Gomez at whatever rate he would command after next season so the argument about having Syndergaard for 6+ seasons before FA and Gomez for only 1.5 seasons isn't exactly clear cut. I guess where the rubber meets the road for me is putting myself in a large market frame of mind. The Mets can afford to buy elite pitching like Jordan Zimmermann, Zack Greinke, David Price and Jeff Samardzija. Are the Mets better to deal Syndergaard for Gomez and sign Zimmermann if need be to replace Syndergaard? Or are they better to hold Syndergaard and chase FA bats like Yoenis Cespedes, Jason Heyward and Justin Upton? I don't know the answer to that. All I know is that if the Brewers called and said Syndergaard for Gomez, I would be tempted.
  2. After listening to him on the Brewers radio broadcast the past two games, I have to say that I am impressed. While no one will replace Uecker when he hangs it up, Levering has the potential to be better than what Joe Block is based on the first two games. Given a season or two, Levering may be the heir apparent to Bob Uecker rather than Block.
  3. Wishing the best for Jimenez...seeing him brighten a kid's day this Spring Training by giving the kid a bat was a great moment.
  4. Coupling this deal with a Gomez trade to the Mets for SP like Syndergaard and/or Matz and the Brewers re-build could be relatively quick.
  5. All of those things could easily be true. It really wouldn't be shocking if they were. I hope none are true but I think at least half probably are. It is really easy seeing the Brewers win between 70 and 85 games. The bolded statements above are the ones I have the most fear of being true in 2015. If those prove to be true, I see the Brewers in the 75-77 win range. If, like you said, all are true, then they are a 70 win team. If none are true, the Brewers are contenders in 2015 and legitimate threats to win the NL Central as I think mid-80s win total will win the Central this year.
  6. Or you could attribute that to his thumb injury. To me, it all boils down to his 2012 season. I have to assume MLB was determined to do everything in its power through the CBA to prove he was a PED that year after his suspension was overturned. What does he do? Leads the NL in HR, R, TB and OPS. Now if that season was PEDs driven, then MLB has a more serious problem because they either A. Need to test more or B. Can't detect whatever PEDs these guys are taking. Call it naivety, I tend to believe that MLB is doing everything possible to detect the PEDs users. Back on topic...give me a healthy Braun and, while he may be the .950 guy of 2011 and 2012 given his advancing age, I would not be shocked to see a repeat of his 2010 season where he hit .304 and had 25 HR and 45 doubles.
  7. Well then he shouldn't say things like "I know there's a small number of people on this planet who can do what I can do in this game." http://m.brewers.mlb.com/news/article/115703108/return-to-form-makes-ryan-braun-milwaukee-brewers-dangerous Then get hurt on the first day of the year. Just laughable. What in what he said isn't true? What percentage of people in the world can solidly hit 95+ MPH fastballs? Less than 1%? Isn't that pretty much the definition of a "small number of people?" How does his getting hurt justify an overwhelming amount of negativity towards him? Additionally, the whole quote includes him saying "But as long as I am healthy..." If you just don't like Braun because of PEDs or who he is as a person, then fine. Negativity because of injury though is not justified.
  8. I think this article assumes the worst for the Brewers, meaning the following: *Braun is done as a superstar and is merely average *Ramirez is done. Period. *Gomez reverts to the pre-2013 Gomez *Segura is who he has been for the past year and a half *Scooter cannot hit LHP and hits .260 as a full time player *Lind cannot stay healthy *Lohse is done. Period. *Fiers is a fluke *Nelson is not ready to be an everyday #5 All of these things occur and yes the Brewers are a 65-70 win team. The article is correct in stating that there is no real depth. If Jimenez, Clark or Rogers have to play for an extended period for an injured Ramirez or Lind, or we see a ton of a Schafer-Gomez-Parra OF then sure. But I think this article is a worst case scenario, gloom and doom piece.
  9. I have to say...All this negativity towards Braun is pretty disappointing.
  10. I believe the rationale, based on what I have read, is that Parra will be the main PH and having Schafer will allow RR flexibility to use Parra as such. If the choice is between Herrera and Schafer and the role is specifically being late inning OF replacement, give me Schafer.
  11. ...and because of this pendulum of possibilities, Ramirez is and was always destined to be the cleanup hitter in 2015.
  12. To echo what ewitkows said, Boras also always takes his clients to FA...except when he didn't and Gomez signed his current extension. Is it the best interest to re-sign Gomez? I am unsure but I don't think it is outside the realm of possibility either. Attanasio has shown a desire to keep big talent players in Milwaukee like Gomez, with franchise record contract offers to Sabathia, Fielder and Greinke even if they eventually price themselves out of the Milwaukee market. I see the Brewers trying to sign Gomez long term and doubt we see the Brewers deal Gomez unless the floor truly falls out from under them and are 15-20 games out be the ASG.
  13. If I am the Brewers, I approach Gomez about an extension right now. His current deal (2 years $17 million) expires after his age 30 season in 2016. Offer him something in the neighborhood of a 4 year extension now with the addition of $100 million to the contract. Spread the new $100m into his current under contract seasons. Doing so gives him a boost from $8m in 2015 and $9m in 2016 into $19.5 in both seasons. This essentially turns his current deal into a 6 year $117 million contract (AAV of $19.5) that will take him through his age 34 season. If the Brewers want to keep Gomez, this is the way to do it.
  14. On March 25, I would put the lineup like this: 1. Gennett 2. Lucroy 3. Braun 4. Gomez 5. Lind 6. Ramirez 7. Davis 8. Segura This lineup will never happen as RR has Ramirez locked in at #4 but I like the feel of the lineup with Gomez focusing on driving in runs rather than being at #1 or #2. When a LHP is on the mound flip flop Gennett and Segura.
  15. The Dodgers knew this before they signed him. There supposedly is a clause for a 7th season at $1 million if he has to have the TJ surgery.
  16. Definitely a good thought there. I somehow forgot about Thornburg. Honestly, if I were the Brewers and I was gutsy enough...I would deal Lohse for Guerrero. I know it will never happen but I highly doubt the Brewers bring Lohse back in 2016 so it makes the most sense from a long term standpoint to deal Lohse as they will have Peralta, Nelson, Fiers, Thornburg, Garza and Jungmann fighting for the rotation starting next season. Trading any of those six would be difficult for me given Lohse's likely departure after this season.
  17. Fiers? Big park he could do very well in. Brewers aren't punting 2015 and trading Fiers would be an indication of doing so. Unless the Brewers think Jungmann is ready (I don't) then I don't think they have the depth to deal SP. An interesting thought...Would a Guerrero + package be worth more to you than the package the Brewers received from Texas (Sardinas, Knebel, Diplan) for Yo?
  18. I would be very happy with a trade for Guerrero and see what he could do as the Brewers 3B starting next season. Shame the Brewers don't have a 5th starter type that the Dodgers could use while Ryu is on the shelf.
  19. ...and yet most of Los Angeles (70%) still cannot watch them because their channel is not carried by most providers. http://www.latimes.com/sports/dodgers/dodgersnow/la-sp-dn-dodgers-tv-20150117-story.html
  20. Living in California it gets tough...especially when Brewer games mostly start at 5pm here. By the time I get home the game is in the 6th or 7th inning. That what XM, MLB At Bat and Extra Innings package on Directv are for though. It's not as hard as when I was a kid waiting for the sometimes SportsCenter highlight of the Brewers. It is fun though to be the only Brewer fan I know out here as most of the people that live close to me are Dodger, Angel or Padre fans.
  21. ...what would you do? http://www.turfshowtimes.com/2015/3/22/8272457/st-louis-rams-los-angeles-stadium-stan-kroenke-new-pictures If you believe all the rumors out here in California, the Rams will be coming back to Los Angeles in 2016. While I for one am happy about L.A. potentially getting back "our" football team (yes, I know they started in Cleveland but are Los Angeles' true team), it makes me sad for a fan base to lose a team they called their own (although if it had to happen to a fan base, I couldn't think of one better than St. Louis ). It did get me thinking though...what if the Brewers were to play a lame duck season in Milwaukee? If you knew the Brewers were moving away after 2015, what would you do as a fan of the Brewers? Would you follow the team after they moved to Charlotte or Portland or Las Vegas? Would you boycott the team all year and burn all Brewer gear? Who would you root for and why? Hopefully, we never have to go through this (looking at you Bucks) but in the event any of my teams left, I think the amount of disdain I would have for them would lead me to rooting for their archrivals which leads me to the Bears and Cubs. Now, having grown up in Los Angeles and not in Milwaukee I understand that some of you would never root for a Chicago team which I understand. I on the other hand, don't have this ingrained hatred for all things Chicago. To me, leaving me as a fan makes me want to run into the arms of your most hated rival.
  22. Lots of good opinions here...Have to say that some of what has been discussed has changed my prerogative on some of the topics here. Oddly, I am more inclined to purchase ANY jersey. This includes Braun, a personalized one and a rare or obscure player. The purchase of a Braun jersey doesn't mean I condone PEDs as much as purchasing a personalized jersey mean I am a failed ballplayer. Nor would it feel like a waste of money to own a Burnitz 20 jersey. In the end, to me it boiled down to being a Brewer fan and having fun supporting the team by wearing a jersey rather than making a statement about the specific person whose jersey I was wearing.
  23. I don't think is 100% accurate. I tried to make a Cooper 15 jersey, a Thomas 20 jersey, a Jenkins 5 jersey and even a Sexson 11 jersey and none of them were approved. Just for grins I tried Favre 4 and they said Favre was a profane word. Absolutely weird system.
  24. The ones they have on MLB.com for Yount and Molitor are pullovers from the 80s and not button ups like the current retro uniforms. They say there are restrictions and you cannot create them. Ridiculous.
  25. The worst thing about that photo is that MLB.com will make and print things like that but I can't create a Aaron 44, Molitor 4 or Yount 19 jersey. Ridiculous.
