  1. While it'll never happen, it would be pretty smooth of Stearns to get Phillips-Santana-Hader-Houser and Gomez for Mike Fiers and whatever non-entity it would take to re-acquire Gomez. This is EXACTLY the type of move I expect of Stearns though moving forward...the cunning acquisition that drives another franchise's fans bonkers. Having said that, Gomez no longer fits the profile of the new Brewers. His lack of patience at the plate and lack of fundamentals on the basepaths fly directly in the face of the type of player Stearns has targeted since his arrival.
  2. http://m.mlb.com/news/article/173656842/commissioner-rob-manfred-on-young-players In the above article, Manfred makes mention of the league expanding from 30 - 32 teams. I think it's becoming relatively apparent as well that one of the teams is likely to be a reincarnation of the Montreal Expos. The other location, one would think would be Portland, Charlotte, Las Vegas, Indianapolis, etc... For the sake of this discussion, I will assume the team would be based in Portland for no other reason than that is where I would like to see a new MLB team. In this scenario, I would imagine Montreal re-joining the NL and the Portland team joining the AL, which would create a natural rivalry with the Seattle Mariners. In this scenario, I would imagine the league would re-align to 8 divisions of four teams, with the division winners all making the playoffs and the elimination of the second Wild Card. With realignment, I imagine we would see the new divisions look something like this: NL WEST 1. Dodgers 2. Padres 3. Giants 4. Diamondbacks NL NORTH 1. Brewers 2. Cubs 3. Cardinals 4. Rockies NL SOUTH 1. Braves 2. Marlins 3. Reds 4. Nationals NL EAST 1. Mets 2. Phillies 3. Pirates 4. Expos AL WEST 1. Angels 2. Mariners 3. A's 4. Portland AL NORTH 1. White Sox 2. Twins 3. Tigers 4. Indians AL SOUTH 1. Royals 2. Astros 3. Rangers 4. Rays AL EAST 1. Yankees 2. Red Sox 3. Orioles 4. Blue Jays There are only a few oddities in this scenario and they are mostly based on geographical location being distant from rivals (Rockies with Brewers, Cubs & Cardinals; Marlins with Braves, Reds & Nationals; Rays with Royals, Rangers & Astros). The Rays could end up moving as well. Regardless, a fun scenario to play with.
  3. Through 14 games, one of the most enjoyable seasons in recent memory. No expectations have lead to me enjoying the game and watching the kids develop (Scooter against LHP, Domingo taking walks, Nelson taking the next step, Rivera looking like a great utility IF). Sure some will miss (Broxton and Flores in CF, Peralta & Davies struggling) but this is expected and not putting a damper on my enjoyment of baseball. Gone are the let's strive for .500 Brewers and, hopefully soon, the constantly replenishing farm system Brewers will arrive.
  4. I have wondered for a few seasons how long it will be before MLB outlaws extreme shifting for the sake of increasing offense. In other words, I foresee a time in the not to distant future where MLB states two IF must remain on both the left and right of 2nd base. It just seems like an idea that will be implemented for the "integrity of the game."
  5. We're 14 games into the season...I wonder how many of those games we have worn the ball and glove and how many we have worn the M with Barley? Seems like the ball and glove is daily now.
  6. Peralta is just bad...it appears his problem is mental by his body language.
  7. Scooter nailed that ball...unfortunately right at the SS. He has definitely looked much better against LHP this season. Working the count and hard hit balls.
  8. Honestly, I think the Brewers lack brand identity and that is problematic. Who are the Brewers? The M with Barley, the ball and glove, something else...? Even we as fans cannot seem to agree on what the Brewers are. Some think that the ball and glove crowd like myself are living in the past, which couldn't be further from the truth for me. I was born the year the Brewers went to the World Series and have vague recollections of the "glory years" of the late 70s to mid to late 80s. My first real solid memories are of the Motre Bame Jaha-Vina-Valentin-Cirillo Brewers and I am loathe to even think the Brewers are bringing those uniforms back for a game this season. I think about teams with classic logos/uniforms and how I long for the Brewers to be one. Fans of all Wisconsin teams are fortunate that we have one of those teams in the Packers. Think of the uproar if the Packers were to change the yellow to gold or the forest green to a lighter green. Similarly, the simplicity of the Yankees, Dodgers, Red Sox uniforms are so wonderful and their look is so timeless that any modification to the logo and/or uniform is met with severe resistance. This brings me back to the Brewers and their lack of brand identity. I think the majority of fans who want the ball and glove aren't thinking of years gone by and the "glory years." Rather, they recognize the logo for what it is...a classic in the vein of the Packers, Yankees, Dodgers & Red Sox. This is why we long for a permanent return to this logo. Uniforms are debatable and the design of which is something that certainly can be modernized like the Astros and Blue Jays have done so wonderfully. It's not about the uniform, it's about the logo and the brand identity associated with it.
  9. Can Peralta ever stop falling off the mound? Some of the worst mechanics and balance I have ever seen on the mound. Gosh.
  10. I think the people advocating for the full time return of this logo are also more inclined to read way too much into things like this, because it's what they want to see. Instead of making an assertion about others reading too much into things, perhaps you should question why the Brewers are the only team in MLB to not use their current primary logo on any of the hats.
  11. Which is also what the Blue Jays did...which is also what I anticipate the Brewers doing if they do go back to the ball and glove full time. Essentially becomes a modernization of the uniform, while keeping the ball and glove the same.
  12. A few things here: 1. They are not using the new alternate jersey other than on the Fourth of July jersey. 2. They are introducing an entirely new format for the ball and glove logo with the Mother's, Memorial & Father's Day jersey. Those jerseys use the current Brewers script with a ball and glove logo patch on the arm. This combination has not been on any Brewer jersey that I am aware of. 3. The usage of the All Star Game royal ball and glove instead of the M with barley or the alternate navy ball and glove signifies to me this is a soft opening of the return of the ball and glove full time.
  13. http://m.mlb.com/news/article/172064958/new-uniforms-celebrate-special-events Looking at the special event jersey arm patches and chosen hat for these events, combined with the new navy ball and glove alternative, it certainly does appear the Brewers are beginning to make the shift back to the Ball and Glove logo as the primary logo. To which I say a loud HOORAY!
  14. http://www.brewcrewball.com/2016/4/13/11413238/familiarizing-ourselves-with-texas-rangers-farm-system Good write-up at Brew Crew Ball regarding Texas' system. I would be more than happy with a package that included Brinson and Matuella as 2 of 3 pieces or I would be happy with a return of Brinson and Tate for Lucroy. As I stated earlier, a future OF of Brinson, Phillips, Santana would be unbelievably exciting.
  15. Lucroy + (obviously a BIG +) for Brinson, Gallo (whose star is fading), Matuella. I would love an OF of Brinson, Phillips, Santana.
  16. I would've felt even better had you kicked him in the...and ran off Thanks for sharing nonetheless TLB!
  17. Similar experience to CheezWiz...but mine happened at Spring Training in Chandler. I was about 7-8 years old in the late 80s and saw Gantner all alone after a game. My dad happened to notice him and I ran up to him and asked for his autograph. No one else was within 200 yards of him. Totally shunned me. Get lost kid kind of attitude. Completely unnecessary. A simple "not today little guy" would have been ok but his complete jerkiness left such a bad taste in my mouth with him. Had he not been from Fond du Lac, he would be remembered for what he was and not linked to Yount and Molitor.
  18. I'd prefer Scooter at 1, Lucroy 2, Braun 3 and Santana 4. However, all four are in the top four spots in the lineup so I cannot really complain.
  19. Record: 71-91; 4th place Team MVP: Ryan Braun Home Runs: Ryan Braun & Domingo Santana 27 Wins: Jimmy Nelson 13 Bold Predictions: Nelson & Jungmann solidify as #2 & #3 MLB pitchers; Domingo Santana becomes a 2012 Corey Hart clone; Braun remains Braun; Scooter continues to strike out too much and walk too little, but learns to adequately hit LHP and develops into a .290 hitter; Keon Broxton plays 2016 like a poor man's Dexter Fowler
  20. I was so jazzed about this signing when it occurred...Garza has been such an overwhelming disappointment in Milwaukee.
  21. Gantner was a jerk to me when I was a kid in the 80s. Seems appropriate to get an equally obnoxious Schilling back in a deal. Sign me up.
  22. http://sportsday.dallasnews.com/texas-rangers/rangers/2016/03/31/sources-rangers-still-working-adding-pitcher-cleveland-target Trevor Bauer is a pitcher I would like the Brewers to target. Yes, he has his warts (coachability questions, attitude, control) but he still can bring the heat and has #1-#2 upside and has just been relegated to the bullpen. I have no clue what the Indians would expect as a return but I would love the opportunity to acquire Bauer.
