  1. Yeah, I'm not happy. It appears the Brewers will always draft college-heavy as long as Seid is in charge. College hitters were supposed to be the weakness of this draft, yet here we are. I'll try to be less negative tomorrow, but Coulter is the only pick I liked.
  2. It might be Pierce Johnson. Don't know enough about him to have an opinion on that.
  3. I worry about Piscotty's defense. Not everybody believes he'll stay at 3rd. If he doesn't, he becomes a LF with 20-hr power.
  4. Gallo & Marrerro would be a pretty terrific haul.
  5. Great! Was never a Ramsey guy.
  6. Shaffer and Marrerro would appear to be real good value that would fit our needs. Maybe pair one of them with a high-upside hs guy?
  7. Can Richie Schaffer get down to us?
  8. Well, I think some of us were hoping Russell would drop. So much for that.
  9. I did. That is one big signing bonus that doesn't appear to have worked out for them. Nothing's guaranteed with any prospect, but Cole, Taillon and Appel are all much more likely to succeed than Allie was.
  10. Yes, I don't expect we're going to enjoy playing the Pirates four years from now.
  11. From what I've read it sounds as if a number of talented prep arms are expected to go in the sandwich round. I think I'd be pretty happy if the Brewers snagged one after taking position players with the first two picks.
  12. Brewers end up with Coulter and Roache in Mayo's final mock.
  13. Goldstein also has a free mock: http://www.baseballprospectus.com/article.php?articleid=17238 Corey Seager and Victor Roache.
  14. Frankie Piliere's mock is viewable: http://sbb.scout.com/2/1191326.html#.T8lW624CgNo.twitter Pierce Johnson and Lucas Sims. First time I've seen Brewers predicted to take pitchers with both picks. He mentions the Brinson connection, but believes there are a couple other teams that also like him in the first round.
  15. Klaw also goes with Coulter and Brinson in his new mock today. Lists Sims and Virant as other possibilities. Describes Brinson as "a fantastic athlete who has as much upside as anyone other than Buxton"
  16. I understand listening in case somebody offers the farm on Castro, but I can't see dealing him unless the return was substantial.
  17. While I've seen Brinson ranked in the 40s or 50s on a couple draft boards, and Coulter in the 30s or 40s, I don't see anything wrong with picking either of them there. They both appear to be high-ceiling prospects at premium positions. It's hard to overdraft guys like that unless you grossly overestimate the likelihood of them reaching their ceilings. Given the difficulty of predicting whether a high school player will reach his potential, if the Brewers feel good about a guy I can't say much other than to hope they're right.
  18. Mayo gives the Brewers Coulter and Lewis Brinson, a high school OF. His comments suggest he has heard info connecting the Brewers to Brinson, but isn't sure whether they're considering him for pick 28 or 38. http://mlb.mlb.com//news/article.jsp?ymd=20120531&content_id=32543884&vkey=news_mlb&c_id=mlb
  19. I'd only expect LA to get involved if Weaver's injury is serious. Should that happen, I could see Greinke traded for a package built around AAA pitcher Garret Richards and AA ss Jean Segura. I don't love either guy, but they're both top 100 prospects who are fairly close to the majors and it strikes me as a realistic return for half a season of Greinke. The Blue Jays weren't on your list, but a few weeks back Rosenthal mentioned them as a possible suitor for Garza or Greinke should either become available. An obvious target would be AAA ss Adeiny Hechavarria, though I wouldn't want him to be the centerpiece as most people seem skeptical of his bat. They're system is stacked, though, so finding a few other good pieces wouldn't be difficult. If they'd part with Jake Marisnick, I'd do cartwheels.
  20. That's quite the debut for Bradley. I'm officially excited about him.
  21. KLaw already included Peralta as an honorable mention in his mid-season top 50 list, putting him safely in the top 60. I expect he'll be a consensus top 100 guy on all the major lists this off-season, and maybe a couple top 50s. Funny that going into the draft the experts seemed to agree that our first-round picks would become the clear top 2 prospects in the system. Two months later, I doubt anybody would say that.
  22. I really want to like Brooks Hall, but it would help if he'd strike a few people out. I am beginning to wonder if it's .
  23. McFarland is an exciting surprise. I saw his name mentioned much higher than this. Sounds like a real tough sign, but might be this year's Scooter Gennet. From BA: It's usually difficult to lure Rice recruits away from college, and it's unlikely a team will buy McFarland away from the Owls after a lackluster spring. He's a 6-foot-1, 195-pound righthanded hitter with solid tools across the board. He makes contact and projects to have gap power, and he's an average runner with a fringy arm who'll have to move from shortstop to second or third base
  24. Goforth was #96 in Keith Law's rankings. Says he's a reliever. Fastball has touched 98 and also throws a good cut fastball. Law doesn't think much of his other pitches.
  25. And from BA: Projectable 6-foot-6, 185-pound righthander Danny Keller was one of the stars of November's Jesse Flores Memorial All-Star Game, showing a 91-92 mph two-seam fastball and a sharp three-quarters curve. The breaking ball had less power at February's MLB Urban Youth Invitational, and his feel for pitching did not impress scouts as the spring progressed. He struggled to throw strikes, thanks in part to an unrefined delivery that includes some head violence. He has arm strength—he topped out at 93 this spring—and upside, and a club could take a shot at him as high as the fifth- to seventh-round range, though he seems to fit better a few rounds later than that. He is committed to Cal State Northridge.
