  1. I don't know, but these days it shouldn't be that hard for a computer to "see" both the beltline and the "shoulders" (armpit? Top? whatever they decide) for every AB and make the top of the strikezone exactly between those two points as the rulebook states. Who knows how it will actually occur though.
  2. Very nice. This would never happen (although I'm not sure why), but if they get the bye in the first round and have almost a week off they should host an organizational intrasquad game at AmFamClam on like Wednesday after the regular season ends. Bring all the prospects in and let them get a taste of playoff culture in the stadium. Keep the team on a "game schedule" with full dress and everything, give the bullpen guys an inning each against in a live hitter environment....let fans come in and watch. Seems like a win all around.
  3. Ball 4 was a ball. Not ball 1 or 3....and the Sanchez walk earlier in the inning 2 of the 4 called balls were strikes.
  4. He got royally screwed yesterday...they were bad calls with 2 outs and the bases loaded. It's a shame when it's a full count, bases loaded and 2 outs tie game in the 8th or 9th and a guy takes a borderline pitch. ABS will help a little, but I feel like close pitches (like within an inch) in that situation should actually be do-overs, like a foul ball. It's just a really stupid way to win or lose a ballgame for both sides.
  5. I just want to say that I think everybody in the lineup uses a bat that is 2.61" in diameter. Same as next year.
  6. Myers is in AAA until August 30th due to that 10 day rule.
  7. I would guess that Friday's starter is the ubiquitous "TBD". If Gasser looks great and feels great and is all systems go at AAA and Patrick is a dud then perhaps they option Patrick tomorrow and bring up Yoho or McGee until Friday and plan to start Gasser Friday but that all seems unlikely. I bet they stick with Patrick and option Grant Anderson for one of those guys if needed instead.
  8. Yeah...I was and am curious how the language works for all of that. I go to the brewers.com website and use the transactions tab under the roster menu and it said "optioned" but that didn't seem quite right to me. Is there a better place to see transactions? It seems like it can't get more official than the mlb/brewers website.
  9. Normally a player who is optioned has to remain in the minors for 10 days, but I believe that since Patrick was recalled only for the doubleheader as the 27th man he was exempt from that 10 day rule. Good roster management by Arnold here getting a few innings from Carlos Rodriguez with both Myers and Patrick down in the minors. There are a lot of moving parts when you play 19 games in 18 days.
  10. DH tomorrow after tonights game is cancelled? or Weds? Or will they just start at like 930 tonight after the storms pass?
  11. I agree with EVERYBODY in this thread. I think the OP has a good point about a possible mental/emotional let-down to finish out the year if there isn't much to play for in the last couple of weeks as well as the issue of getting rusty sitting around for a week after the regular season ends. Still, this is the best possible "problem" to have, and it is an unavoidable problem as has been pointed out. It's certainly not worth worrying about.
  12. Berroa 0/2 on hitting the cutoff man. The assist gives him a pass.
  13. Just imagine what might happen if Attanasio decides to actually try and win instead of middling around merely providing a summer of family fun.
  14. Significantly lower than just a "score first" qualifier; slightly lower than a "get one run and only one run during the first half inning a run is scored" qualifier.
  15. There are many better playoff formats than the current one. I'd make the WC#3 play @WC#2 two days after the season ends in a 3pm game. If they lose they are done. If they win they play a rematch 45 minutes after game one is done in an elimination game. The winner plays two days later @WC#1 in the same format. Whoever emerges from that plays the #1 seed in the division series. Make regular season and division titles mean something and add a ridiculous amount of drama and non-stop elimination games for the Wild Card teams right after the regular season ends. These days would be EPIC and get a national TV audience that the MLB has been craving for decades. If the doubleheader is too much, I suppose they could just play the day after the season ends instead and spread the two games out over two days if WC#3 wins game 1.
  16. I don't think it is complicated. They don't exactly know what the have with Seigler. He's a lefty, Durbin struggles against righties...thus, you play Seigler to see what the kid can do while also playing the numbers. If he stinks, he goes the way of Dunn. If he is good, you have a dynamic platoon with Durbin. After everything that has happened this year I find it odd that people STILL write off unknown players before even giving them a chance (a "chance" is more than 3-5 games).
  17. He was throwing 91 mph in the 1st and 96 in the 6th. I guess he was emptying the tank?
  18. A guy can be average and it would be a significant downgrade on D. Ortiz is phenomenal at SS.
  19. If Joey puts up a .700+ OPS the rest of the way I don't think there is an upgrade that would be available that wouldn't significantly downgrade the defense, which would likely end up being a net negative--especially considering that they would have to give up value to get that likely downgrade. Now if Joey goes back to OPSing ,500 then sure we could upgrade.
  20. If Black can be an upgrade from Collins that'd be amazing but I'd say unlikely. Collins has been excellent since June 1st.
