  1. I think it’s funny you mention this. I was actually thinking to myself yesterday and seriously considering using Lauer in Game 1 against the Dodgers. What do they have to lose? He struggled in a couple starts this season and that’s basically all he as given for an opportunity. It’s a complete shot in the dark move and one that people would never live down if it doesn’t work out, but it’s the type of move the Brewers might need to make to win this series. Game 3 in needed. They have too many other arms who have actually had success to resort to something like this right off the bat.
  2. Lindblom and Houser have been consistently terrible to start games all year long. They'll need to start at some point in the playoffs, but not in a 3 game series against the Dodgers that is bookended by 2 off days on either end. Game 2 is Woodruff's game. Count on him for 7-8 innings or 110 pitches. Win game 1 at all costs, then count on Woodruff and either Williams or Hader (but preferably not both) to go in game 2 after Woody. Count on Williams and Hader to cover innings 7-9 in game 1. So now you are covering the first 6 innings of game one with your entire pitching staff other than Woodruff, Williams and Hader (And Burnes/Anderson). There is no possible world where either Adrian Houser OR Josh Lindblom should be pitching in those 6 innings when you've got Suter, Peralta, Topa, Claudio, Yardley, Knebel, Rasmussen and Black to cover those 6 innings--and have guys left over. That's 8 guys for 6 innings.
  3. This strategy sounds great in theory, until all 4 of your best relievers get used and it's only the 6th inning. So now you have claudio and yardley and knebel trying to close out 3 innings. And then what if woodruff isn't super efficient game 2 and needs 100+ pitches to get through 5+ innings? Your bullpen is gone. Lindblom and houser should start games. I'll add that I anticipate those guys being more like 3-4 inning guys like suter unless they happen to be particularly effective. I'm more than happy to let williams and hader pitch the last 4 combined innings if we manage to get a lead game 1. One thing to note, suter is significantly more effective against rhb than lhb. I'll not necessarily sure the dodgers would load up rhb if we went suter to start game 1. Ahh. If this is truly the case and not an anomaly, then I'd go with Suter first.
  4. I don't hate this but I think you just start Suter at that point. He has been spot starting successfully up to this point and is a vet. Asking Topa, in his first playoff experience (and first season, etc) to start Game 1 against the Dodgers might be a little much to ask. Adrenaline/nerves would have him throwing 106mph over the backstop lol. Suter -> Topa is a drastic change in styles as it is. Just start Brent I think? I want Suter to face their lineup setup against a righty. They may pinch hit anyway, but I want them to do that early too. If the moment seems too big for Topa (or Yardley or whoever) then bring in Suter even earlier.
  5. I think Justin Topa is my pick. 0 BB 12 Ks on the year. Give him the first 6-9 batters then go to Suter for another 6-9 batters. Don't let either of them pitch to anybody twice.
  6. I've been trying to figure out a way to start Williams or Hader on Wednesday, but I don't think I like it. The innings are just too low leverage to make it worth it. Now Rasmussen, Knebel or Justin Topa I could see starting. Really anybody except Williams or Hader. ALSO, if the Brewers somehow get an early lead I could see going to the closers in the 5th inning or so if you think you can get 2 SO innings from each of them.
  7. I haven't actually thought about the execution of the playoffs until now. On Wednesday the games start at 11 AM, and there will be 8 of them, starting nearly every hour until culminating with the Brewers-Dodgers tilt at 9 PM. Four of those eight are guaranteed to be elimination games for somebody. It's going to be like the NCAA Tournament. That's fun.
  8. Without off days there isn't really much of a debate. Pretty much the same as the regular season roster.
  9. Anyway the Bucks can pick up Tyler Herro? Wow. He's gone from "surprising...surpassing all expectations" to "Is that Tyler Herro or Luka Doncic?" I watched a couple of Kentucky games and he looked okay but was surprised he got drafted as high as he did. Seemed to be a out of this world jump shooter with okay size and okay athleticism but needed strength and experience and a whole lot of other things. I've never been more wrong. Potential superstar. So smooth.
  10. If we are on the other side of the bracket we have a legit shot to not even have to face the Dodgers. Which would be nice.
  11. For all of those who want the Brewers to "sell high" on all of their relievers, what happens when you ignore or gut your bullpen to try to add offense is that you become the Phillies. Huh? We sold high TO the Phillies.
  12. This guy is just horrible... We might be best off just keeping Nottingham and Pina next year to be honest. Would the Brewers be able to option him? He may be destined for a long AAA stretch to begin next season while Pina Nottingham duo start the season. This seems like the winning move. Make Narvaez prove it in AAA while holding onto both Nottingham and Pina. Then figure something out next June. Hopefully we'll have at least 4 catchers ready for MLB action (Feliciano? Henry?) giving us some nice trade bait.
  13. Clubbers is fine w/o Super or Supper. Supper is terrible. Super Clubbers has a baseball angle as well as a disco angle.
  14. Woodruff goes today. With normal rest, he'll start on Saturday against the Cards and then be set up to start in game 2 of the WC series on Thursday. With normal rest Burnes would miss the Reds series and pitch game 1 of the 5 game Cardinals series on Thursday. He would then presumably pitch game 1 of the WC series on Wednesday with 5 days rest. However, whoever pitches on Sunday against the Cards would also be set up to still pitch in game 3 of the WC series on normal 4 days rest. Burnes threw 100 pitches on Saturday. I say he should start on Wednesday on 3 days rest against he Reds with a 75-80 PC limit, then also go again on Sunday against the Cards on 3 days rest and then be set up to still pitch in the WC series on normal rest. If we've already clinched something by that sunday then perhaps we bump him so he can start game 1 of the WC series on Wednesday. Any thoughts? Note that there is a doubleheader against the Cards on Friday, so we will either need a bullpen game or a start on short rest at some point during the Cards series. So 9/21 Woodruff 9/22 Anderson 9/23 Burnes on 3 days rest rather than Houser 9/24 Houser 9/25 game1- Lindblom game2- Suter/Peralta/bullpen 9/26 Woodruff 9/27 Burnes/Anderson 9/28 OFF (playoff game?) 9/29 OFF (playoff game?) 9/30 NLWCS game 1- Johnny Wholestaff depending upon who's hot 10/1 NLWCS game 2- Woodruff 10/2 NLWCS game 3- Burnes
  15. Useless seems a bit harsh. It was a bad AB and he’s having a rough stretch. It sucks, but I get the feeling at times were making a lot of (inaccurate) sweeping conclusions over two months of baseball. Well. He has been nearly useless in this short stretch of baseball but that constitutes little to no evidence toward whether or not he will continue to be useless in either the near, mid-term or long-term futures.
  16. okay, I've defended Ed Sedar a long time but that was terrible. Tag, go...if the throw is headed home then fine retreat back to third. but the throw was to 3rd....so...just kinda jog home for the score.
  17. I fully expect Braun to sign with the Dodgers and try to get a ring while playing down the road from Malibu.
  18. Of course it's the money. That's not necessarily a bad thing. It means that a lot of people care.
  19. Uhhh. Then games will be cancelled because of Covid? Don't throw the baby out with the bathwater. So how do they determine a conference champion then? Any way they decide to do it is better than cancelling the entire season right off the bat.
  20. The 16 team playoff as currently constructed is pretty terrible, but it really wouldn't take many tweaks to make it acceptable. Instead of opening with a 3 game series, have a 4 game series. The top seed would need to split the series to move on and the underdog has to win 3/4. Otherwise the regular season is just stupidly long. The NBA and NHL play half of the games of the MLB and it makes those regular season's a joke. Too many teams don't have a chance to win even if they do make the playoffs. I think the 5-6 number is a good number for the MLB.
  21. Tomorrow's going to be a fun day. 14 innings of Woodruff, Suter, Williams, Hader--Rasmussen and Peralta if need be. As maligned as the offense has been this year, hopefully it barely need to show up to get a couple of wins tomorrow.
