  1. Apparently Hulu has followed suit with every other major TV streaming service and has dropped what used to be FSN North/Wisconsin. If anybody has any streaming suggestions or news regarding our Brewers/Bucks RSN please let me know. The local cable service also dropped the channel near the end of the 2019 season. As far as I know MLB.tv still blacksout local viewers, but news on that front is welcome here too. I'm not sure what I'll do come April, but hopefully one of the online services will step into the void.
  2. There is no need for the super-conference thing. Just expand the playoffs to 6 or 8 teams. The 5 P5 champions and then either 1 or 3 at-larges. Either the top 2 teams get a bye or nobody gets a bye. There is no reason the season can't start a week earlier in August or a week later in January, nobody is in school at either time anyway. With an 8 team field you could even guarantee a spot for a G5 team (Cinci, UCF, BYU, etc.)
  3. But we're not getting high upside. We're getting hey maybe this guy can be average for a few years before he starts to get more expensive and isn't really worth the arbitration numbers or he turns into Travis Shaw or he's just never good to begin with. High upside requires us trading something of actual substance and we lack that now too. There are still plenty of guys who turn into All-Star players whose pedigree hasn't been set in stone at age 25. You have to accumulate them--guys like Travis Shaw and Jesus Aguilar and hope you hit on some. Those guys were cheap at age 25 and had/have high upside.
  4. Alabama loses their top WR after having the FIRST TWO WRs chosen in the previous years draft. It'll change when Saban retires. It's yet to be seen if Ryan Day can keep up Urban Meyer's level of consistent greatness. Dabo seems to have everything rolling at Clemson, but I bet there are a few blips on the horizon.
  5. Things like this is what needs to happen, unless Stearns thinks he can find a veteran who will significantly outplay their history. Accumulate as much young cost controlled talent as possible, even guys who have sputtered or slumped a little at the AAA or MLB levels but haven't been given a full tryout and aren't quite fully developed. That is basically the only way to get high upside for cheap. And it sure seems like we are going to go cheap for another year or two.
  6. MSU gets handled by NW. Right now the odds of UW winning the National Title this year are probably 10-100 times greater than the odds of them winning the B1G title last year were at this time. That certainly doesn't mean they are decent odds, just that numbers can get funny quick when approaching 0. I haven't see Baylor play, but I've caught a lot of the rest of the top 20. Gonzaga is clearly the only great team right now. UW should be favored against pretty much everybody else. Crazy to think about considering the turmoil the program has gone thru the last 4 years.
  7. This is great. He was #5 in High School.
  8. That was an odd game. I was impressed by Marquette's balance and intensity. Lewis, Garcia and Carton are going to be a load for a couple years. Nobody played well for UW. Trice had a couple moments and Davis looks like an impressive youngster but on the whole nobody could hit a shot and everybody was just a half step off all night long. Still, the game was there for them at the end. Hopefully we get some close game karma back in a more meaningful B1G game later this year.
  9. I was hoping this would happen after the Tolzein-Toon-Wilson years, but it didn't. Oddly, UW put A LOT of QBs AND WRs/TEs into the NFL from 95-2012 or so. Since then the talent at those positions has pretty much dried up. Hopefully that changes with Mertz and Dike and Skyler Bell and Markus Allen. I love Abbrederis and Alex Erikson as much as the next guy, but it would be great to have guys like Chris Chambers and Lee Evans come through Madison again.
  10. Potter and Reuvers are really good too. Matchup nightmare. Not to mention Aleem Ford who can bomb away at 6-8 as well. Davison, Trice and whoever else mostly just need to be competent to get the ball to those guys. There will be 3s, and there will be more 3s. There might even be a game or 2 where they miss those 3s and lose to somebody they should beat. That's the nature of the game these days. This team doesn't have THE player the quality of a Devin Harris or Alando or Kaminsky. They are pretty solid though.
  11. Mertz looks good.
  12. make it a 10-day contract (for reasons outlined here), and it's easier for the club to maintain organizational depth. Huh. I'd rather sign him in on August 31st and give him 100 high leverage ABs including a playoff spot.
  13. I am shocked that ARod goes on that show every week. I've never watched until recently (the last month or so), but he just doesn't fit with that group.
  14. I have extremely high hopes. When the strength of the team is in the trenches and the secondary it's hard for me to see anything but roses. The LBs should be fine or better as always, and it would be very disappointing of NONE of the young guys emerge from the skill positions to become high impact players. One never knows until they play the games, though. Considering that ILL's major weakness is their DL, I'll be extremely disappointed if UW doesn't run all over them with the occasional timely pass just for fun. Assuming there are no TO or penalty issues, UW wins going away 42-10 or something like that.
  15. Sit one: James Robinson, Miles Sanders, Kenny Golloday, Ju-Ju Smith Schuster, Chase Claypool
  16. Whoa, Nellie. I woulda let it slide if at least you had said the best "hitter" the franchise ever had, although I would still disagree.
  17. We're going for it every time. I bet Jordan Love has a pretty good leg.
  18. I think we ball control them to death and hope that they don't do the same to us. Lots of long drives in this one. Kinda the opposite of a normal Rodgers/Ryan game, although Rodgers and Ryan will still be good. 27-23.
  19. I expected him to be much worse than he actually was this year. If his hitting can return to 2019 levels, then he can play 2B for me. If he is actually the 2020 hitter going forward then he won't be in the league long.
  20. Jake Lamb could be had for cheap, would fill a need and could actually be really good (or really terrible, of course, but that's just about everybody)
  21. He's an out-getter. I think everybody hopes they stretch him out and he becomes a great starter, but if he isn't successful there then he goes to the pen. He and Houser are in the same boat next year. He's got a couple option years left, so I wouldn't be surprised if he starts out being stretched out as a starter in AAA (Wherever that will be) in order to give shots to guys w/o options first (Houser, Black, etc). Guys w/o options are really the guys whose fate is up in the air this offseason. Freddy can keep doing his thing.
  22. Well then. This is going to be an improbable victory.
  23. In the regular season this is all true. I think in this situation with Woodruff going in game 2 and plenty of quality options in the pen (Topa and Yardley have barely been mentioned here), you basically try to shut them out. Give whoever starts 1 time thru the order and then pull them if they aren't super sharp. If they look good let them go hitter by hitter after that until there is a baserunner. This might change a little bit if the Brewers somehow get out to a quick 5-0 lead, but that seems highly unlikely.
  24. I think Anderson will pitch in game 3, and then it depends on who is available if he is ineffective. I understand why guys get time off in the regular season for blisters, but seriously....in an elimination game I'd think if he's getting outs/making good pitches he can pitch thru blisters. If not, then pull him early.
