  1. Hader??? You don't build a team around a relief arm.
  2. I'm ready to build around Yelich, Woodruff and Hiura. Everybody else is expendable.
  3. Burnes seems to be one of those guys that MLB hitters can see the ball well out of his hand and recognize pitches very well. It's just one of those unexplainable baseball things-- regardless of velocity, spin rate and trajectory. He doesn't get away with mistakes (at least this year. Who know what will happen next year). It's very reminiscent of Manny Parra and Wily Peralta.
  4. Oh please. Leave Hader out of it. You cannot complain when the best reliver in all of baseball every once in awhile blows a save. It is somewhat concerning about the number/frequency of home runs that Hader is giving up. Potentially it could be from how they are using him this year, where he only plays like twice a week. Maybe he’s too rusty with that level of usage and one more outing per week may keep him more loose. Forget FB/HR ratio, Hader's HR:BIP ratio has to be among the worst of all-time (as so few balls are put in play against him).
  5. ERA is a mostly useless stat for predicting future outcomes...It is a fine stat for describing what has happened while a pitcher is on the mound (although not necessarily that descriptive for how well he has pitched...but better than nothing)
  6. Can anybody give me a comp for Peter Fairbanks? Devin Williams? Solak was one of many guys blocked in TBs system. They aren't done trading. Grandal and Moose for Honeywell and Nate Lowe?
  7. Think about how the Cubs felt watching the Marlins win 2 WS championships in their first decade of existence...
  8. This would just be weird. Playing against the guy in the NLCS last year, then he switches to our side, then we deal him right back...can't see it happening. I have no idea what Grandal, Moose, and Thames are worth on the trade market, but I hope DS is dangling them out there anyway.
  9. Bingo OR a new league needs to pop up...
  10. I'm also waiting for a League to pop up that doesn't test their players for PEDs (and doesn't allow players younger than 28 years old to join). The New World Series between the MLB champion and the champion of the new PED positive! league would be a truly fascinating event...
  11. The root cause is the demographic lack of balance between location of home stadium, the surrounding population of that stadium and the attention that the media gives those teams. Build an MLB stadium in Central Park NY and broadcast them "locally" (is that actually a significant media term anymore?!?) and a lot of things MIGHT change...
  12. This is true. Cain, Moustakas, Grandal and Braun are very experienced postseason players. The fact that Braun and Grandal haven't hoisted the trophy yet only makes them that much more focused on the prize.
  13. I could get behind that. This makes a lot of sense. Throw in Corey Ray and a young lottery guy and call it a done deal. Stroman and Giles for this year and next year fits pretty dang well.
  14. I hope that BA is a lifer (with many vacations/national side gigs...) Let him do the NBA playoffs and let him do golf's major tournaments and whatever else he wants to do, and then let him come back and do as many Brewer games as possible. Dick Enberg was the Padres TV announcer from 2010 to 2016. BA could be the Brewers tv announcer from 2005 (or whatever it was) to 2045. Rock is Rock. I'll miss him when he isn't there. That's what makes him Rock.
  15. I agree that the pen w/o Hader looks extremely mediocre right now. Now try to imagine the offense w/o Moose, Grandal and Cain and Braun being 1 yr older...
  16. It's a little bit alarming how many guys we have waived this year and retained the rights for--including the last position player on the roster the last 4 years. I thought this was a deep team coming into the year but I guess notso much.
  17. What aspect of DRS, UZR and FRAA and their handling of shifting leads to Arcia's defense being misrepresented relative to his peers? Even peers on teams that shift as much as the Brewers? And since the metrics handle shifting, or more specifically which plays are made by which position as a result of shifting, differently, which one handles it best and thus would represent his defense the best? To me there are two different questions; is Arcia an elite defender? and is Arcia an elite defender at shortstop? I think at least some of the disagreement about Arcia's defense comes from people discussing these two questions interchangeably, when to me they are quite different. The other aspect is looking at his defensive ability or defensive "tools" on the one hand, and actual performance on defense on the other. Arcia undeniably has the tools to be an excellent defender, but does it result in a corresponding ability to convert batted balls into outs? I think this is the big one. There have been too many times this year where I thought "Arcia should have made that play" and not nearly enough times this year where I thought "WOW! I can't believe he made that play!" Now, a lot of that is probably being spoiled by expectations, so numbers could/should back that up those statements if possible.
  18. There are guys who can still put up numbers into their mid-to-late 30s, but trying to predict who those guys are when they are 28 or even 33 is pretty foolish. It should be a year-by-year thing at that point.
  19. Thor was arby eligible LAST year as a super 2. He avoided arbitration both last year and this year by signing before it came before the panel. '20 and '21 are his last 2 arby eligible years. He will command more than the Brewers are willing to give up (I hope). I'd guess the starting point would be Peralta and Burnes and Turang or Hiura.
  20. I keep going back and forth on this. When Andrew Miller was traded he was 31 years old with 2.5 years left on his contract at $9M/yr. Hader is 25 years old with 4.5 years left of control--1.5 years at the league minimum and 3 years of arbitration. If the Brewers trade Hader they should and will get an historic return. I don't think they will, as nobody will step up to the plate to rightfully give the Brewers 2X-3X the prospect value that Miller got when he was traded. Next year at the deadline, Hader will still have 3.5 years of control left, and I would guess that the prospect haul would almost be the same as if he is traded this year. Thus, don't trade him til then at the earliest and make a good run at it this year (and next year).
  21. Wow. I don't know how anybody can say that Braun hasn't been consistent. We've never had a player more consistent than him. Every other productive player we've ever had (other than Yelich, Grandal, and Moustakas--all of whom we've barely had long enough to ever get into a real slump) since Fielder left the team has had month+ long stretches that are far worse than any month+ long stretch Braun has ever been through. You know, guys in the prime of their careers like Santana, Thames, Aguilar, Shaw, Cain, Arcia, Pina, Segura, Villar, Lucroy, and Gomez. I think that is everybody.
  22. You think Corey Ray is almost three times as valuable as Trent Grisham? It's amazing how fast the "value" of a prospect can change.
  23. Meh. The ball was a lollipop in from right (which is fine as nobody was going to advance on that play as long as people do their job). Thames has to stop the ball, period. He had oodles of time to get in position to make the catch and/or stop. If Yeli had fired it in there is a MUCH higher likelihood that the ball is offline and mishandled by somebody and the run comes in. Everybody was in the right position and did the right thing until Thames' bad mis-play.
