  1. I'm not sure why I respond to you, but 0-3 in the 6th isn't mop-up duty. If he can't get the juices flowing in a game like that and he's only good when he gets his shot of adrenaline, the guy is going to have a short career. I don't think he will. I think he'll figure out how to pitch coolly in all situations and end up as a very good starter for us. But right now his role is either middle relief at the MLB level or starting in the minors. 0-3 in the 6th is the very definition of middle relief and when he should be used.
  2. I imagine that Barnes will go down for Anderson tomorrow...will be interesting to see how many pitches CC makes him/let's him throw tonight. I'm thinking at least 50 if he's getting outs/throwing strikes. If Burnes is going down instead, then I suppose it's Claudio in the 8th.
  3. Meh. Along with every other team in MLB. We've whittled the worst part down to Burnes and Barnes, and both are guys who have had at least some success in the past. In Burnes' case he was great in a title run last year and he's young.
  4. If that's the case, the guy is going to need to work in high leverage games in San Antonio, because we are trying to get to a World Series here.
  5. Jeffress has been moved back to his high leverage spot along with Guerra and Hader. Claudio has his SMOG role (SouthpawMultipleOutGuy). Houser, Albers, Burnes, and Barnes are the candidates to pitch when down or up a lot. Albers and Houser pitched yesterday. It was the perfect Burnes spot and he turned it into the perfect Barnes spot. Woulda been nice if those two could finish the game but I'd imagine Claudio (or Perez) will get those honors.
  6. Still only 3-0 after 3 innings. Seems like 10-0. Game can turn around in a hurry.
  7. I wanted Archer for the right price--No arms nor Hiura going back to TBR. That was also before Chacin and Miley had established themselves and well before we picked up Gio. I do like comparing and contrasting the Yelich deal and the Archer deal. Yelich was younger, controlled for longer, safer, and was trending upward and we still got him for cheaper than Archer.
  8. He only has 39 hits this year. If it wasn't for those he'd be slashing a paltry .000/.115/.000
  9. At least the Yelich out at the plate got Braun a new count. Can get that run back if he can come around to score after the leadoff BB.
  10. I don't find the overall end results all that interesting, but when it's broken down into the strategies of WHY those end results happen I find it very interesting. Winning close games is basically how teams win in the playoffs. A good bullpen, defense, and having guys who don't strike out often are intuitively good strategies to win those kinds of games, but I don't know if the stats corroborate that kind of intuition.
  11. If/When Nelson comes back, we'll have a ton of arms to pick and choose certain roles. Things are lining up pretty well to make a nice run.
  12. Once the computers take over the strike zone, I think there should be another zone 1 foot or so around the actual strike zone. If the pitch misses that zone it counts for 2 balls.
  13. Cain seems to be straightened out after a shaky week or so.
  14. Nice. Hiura is more than acquitting himself at the keystone.
  15. Arrgh. I'd prefer it if Pina came in for Grandal with a 3 run lead, not the other way around.
  16. Rodriguez is bad. Otherwise you are correct.
  17. The guy BBs way too much. I blame pitchers for being afraid of him.
