  1. It's gotta be hard. He's paid to be an analyst, so he starts to say what naturally comes to his mind based on what he knows/has learned then catches himself... ("double play depth..."). I give him credit for acknowledging that that isn't the way it's played anymore and it's for the better.
  2. Phew. Glad to be wrong. If we can steal this game with a shaky Chacin vs. Scherzer it would be mighty fine.
  3. I hope Chacin can get thru 7,8, and 9 next inning, but somebody better be warm for the top of the order. He might be at 100 pitches by then anyway.
  4. No kidding. Maybe you don't catch it cleanly, but a MLB SS has to at least stop a shot like that right in front of him and throw the guy out rather than boot it 10 feet away.
  5. Yeah. And Burnes. I like the current composition of our staff. A lot can change in the next few innings though.
  6. If Peralta and Burch Smith were going to tandem tomorrow, who is the long guy tonight? Or do you use one of them tonight and just let them finish the game after Chacin gets taken out? I might take that route depending on how Chacin and Scherzer look in the next 3 innings.
  7. I'm guessing that Thames is in right because of the short porch out there? There is less space to cover. If I were the Nats, I'd sure be trying to take extra bases against our corner OFs though.
  8. Nobody who is suggesting optioning Shaw (me) thinks the guy is as bad as he currently is hitting. That's ridiculous. That doesn't mean you can't send him down for 2 weeks and try to hit the reset button for him while also taking advantage of players you have who are obviously ready to actually contribute at the MLB level right now. Everybody wins. Shaw seems like a pretty tough dude. He'll come back and rake.
  9. It's still probably a little early--but if he isn't coming around in the next 2 weeks and Saladino and Hiura are still hitting...I'd be disappointed if they don't try it to see what happens.
  10. How sweep it is. On the back of the pitching staff, no less. All is well in Brewerfanland?
  11. Does Travis Shaw have options? Seems like swapping he and Hiura for at least a few weeks could help everybody.
  12. This. If if if any of our starters pitching well, let them continue, if effective til 100-105. We DONT have enough multi-inning pen arms to cover the innings at THIS time. It might be ok for Claudio to pitch in 100 games, but I worry about Guerra. He hasn’t even been a pen arm for a full year yet, and he’s being used A LOT. This pen needs Houser pitching multi-inning and when Nelson back one of Nelson/woodruff. Then CC can pull his starters with-out decimating the pen. Or just don't have 18 inning games right in the middle of 10 straight games three days after having a bullpen game because you unexpectedly lost a starter 15 minutes before gametime.
  13. In a long season where you play nearly every day there are going to be different variables that affect your strategies in order to win as many games as possible throughout the season. The score, matchups and how he looked against the top of the order the first two times through the order, how many pitches those guys saw from him, who is available in the bullpen, when the next off day is, etc. It's a day by day type thing.
  14. [sarcasm]If only Braun would have gone 4-6 with 2 walks instead of 6-8...then maybe he'd be showing signs of life[/sarcasm]
  15. As lucky as Braun was, Perez was equally unlucky. 99.9% of the time the ball gets through the catcher's legs and past the umpire a guy will be able to get an extra base. When it's the game winning run the gamble is even more worth taking.
  16. He’s never going to be great offensively, and it’s even tougher playing as sparadicly as he has. Still solid D Yeah, Pina has been a victim of Grandal's hot hitting in the first month.
  17. He was kinda lucky-- but even if that's a clean catch it's a very close play. OBviously if the throw was perfect Braun is out by a step and a half, but that's an incredibly difficult throw to make perfect. It was a good gamble.
  18. Thats cool, I have reached my tipping point with people saying things that make no sense and then defending it when questioned. There is no way that someone who really gets baseball thinks Guerra has been good this season. If he wants to piss on me because I look at meaningful stats instead of a 17 IP sample of ERA which takes 500 IP to start to become meaningful so be it. This forum has been corrupted by knee jerk low knowledge posters to the point it is hard to stomach visiting at this point. I actually have him on ignore because of the consistent low quality posts but I made the mistake of clicking on display this one time. Anyone referencing ERA in a 17 IP sample just doesn't get baseball, it means absolutely nothing in that sample. LOL. You aren't wrong, and please continue to post as much as possible. Still, you aren't helping yourself here.
