What an absolute masterclass of a draft. I thought we’d be lucky to be able to sign just one or two of the later HS picks, but we ended up signing almost all of them!
This is probably the most exciting draft class I’ve seen in quite some time. I’ve been hoping for more power bats and arms for years, and the FO delivered big time.
I mean at this point in the draft you’re either taking lottery tickets or org fillers. One can make the case that it might be better to gather as many lottery tickets as possible and see what sticks. Although what worries me is whether we’ll have enough money to sign all the earlier HS picks from Days 1 and 2.
I thought the rest of the picks were going to be underslot guys, but our FO really is swinging for the fences even now. I wonder how many of the high school guys we’d be able to sign…
Eric Bitonti- SS/3B
We’re really loading up on potential 3Bs this year! It’s as if the FO is making up for all the years they’ve neglected the corner IF position.
I thought that was the case for 2021 as well, but when I looked back on it I realized that we did take some swings, but just couldn’t sign many of the late round picks.
I feel like every year we say, “Maybe these Day 1 guys will sign under slot so we can swing for a home run on Day 2” but it turns out to not be the case. I have a hunch that Knoth will be more costly than most people think.
Huh, at first glance I’m pleasantly surprised! I’ve gotten so used to seeing us take contact-first up the middle guys so it’s nice to see us take much-needed 3B slugger.
Sure Ethan Small turned out fine so far, but I think I'd prefer guys who can regularly throw harder than 90 mph. 90-91 mph might've been at least average in the early 2000s, but I reckon it's a different ballgame nowadays.
