  1. I have a feeling the Tigers are gonna demand way too much for a rental who’s gonna sign with the Dodgers at the first chance he gets.
  2. I feel like people are putting waaay too much weight to “the intangibles.” All the “grit” and “playing the right way” isn’t going to help an undersized guy magically find more power, just like how it’s not gonna magically turn a bad team into the 1927 Yankees.
  3. One thing to be wary of is that relievers in general are a very fickle bunch- they are unhittable one season and may be washed the next. Hell, we’ve seen first-hand how volatile relievers can be seeing how we’ve had a long list of relievers who fell apart suddenly after having dominant seasons (Axford, Knebel, Thornburg, Jim Henderson, Hoffman, Turnbow, Williams, Payamps). I’m not saying we shouldn’t trade for relievers at all, but we should be very careful about overpaying for them. Letting go of Jett Williams makes sense- he hasn’t exactly dominated in AAA and I’m not sure where he belongs on the major league team considering we have more talent set to come up in the near future. Peña I’m more reluctant on given that he is one of our best prospects. Henderson I’m on the fence about- he has been getting hurt pretty often, but is also a quality starter when he’s healthy. I can see why our FO may be hesitant in dealing him, but I can also see our FO wanting to sell high on him too. That being said- if Henderson’s gone, who’s stepping up in the rotation?
  4. Hopefully we get to see Mercedes stateside in the near future. When it comes to our international prospects it’s usually the position players getting all the attention, so it’s very interesting to see a pitcher getting the spotlight.
  5. So far it’s a pretty ho-hum start to Day 2 with guys you expect to sign at a discount. I wonder when we’ll start to see some tougher but interesting signs.
  6. Gotta collect ALL the guys with nasty high-spin curveballs. At least one of them’s gotta turn out to be the next Ben Sheets, right? 😆
  7. A very Brewers type of pitching prospect with that high spin curveball. Get him in the pitching lab and see what we can get out of him.
  8. > Super athletic college OF > Tooled up > Falls further than he should have So he’s basically Garrett Mitchell :P. Hopefully he stays healthy.
  9. Strosnider at 66. Really good value at that spot.
  10. The Cardinals are having a very solid draft so far. Not ideal.
  11. The last high school kid we took in the first round who went earlier than expected is doing pretty good right now. Hopefully Ebel impresses just as much as Payne.
  12. “Sir, a second Ebel has hit the Brewers farm system.”
  13. Trey Ebel it is. There’s our “surprise” underslot pick. I know there were a lot of speculation about us taking him.
  14. Welp, Flukey to the Tigers. He was one guy I wanted.
  15. Zion Rose going to the Royals. I’ve seen him being floated as a possibility for us, but he’s gone surprisingly early.
  16. I’m gonna assume that our first pick isn’t going to excite many people. Typically the later rounds are where the real fun begins.
  17. I take solace in remembering that he just wouldn’t sign with us no matter how much money we tried throwing at him (that was within our limits). He just was never going to sign with us.
  18. Then we just trade for six CJ Abramses.
  19. Now that’s what we call easy power. Just looks so effortless.
  20. Seems like it’s a pretty good bet that we’re gonna see Pratt at some point this season barring unforeseen circumstances. And it seems like our brain trust is very confident that he is a special talent.
  21. IIRC, our FO brought up Tong first and was shot down immediately. I don’t think we would’ve gotten him even with Myers thrown in.
  22. Maybe Jett turns out to be the next Pedroia, but I’m not that optimistic.
