  1. Jorge Soler has recently become an MLB free agent and should sign before July 2nd (so there isn't an international budget constraint). Should the Brewers go after him?
  2. I'm not Colby, but I doubt that the Brewers will draft Smoral because of signability concerns. He missed much of the season and he could be seeking to prove himself in college ball. There is a possibility that the Brewers draft him, though.
  3. Failing to sign Rodon is going to hurt for a long time.
  4. Hey Colby, what are the odds that Zach Eflin makes it to any of the Brewers' picks?
  5. For Brinson, he's gonna be a reach for 28 IMO. As of right now I hope the Brewers pick Zach Eflin for 28.
  6. My hope is that the Brewers go with a HS bat and HS pitcher for the 27th and the 28th pick and a college bat for the 38th pick.
  7. I'd be fine with that draft. Coulter has a great power and brings good athleticism, and Sims seems like a potential #2 starter with a plus fastball and a plus curveball(and the Brewers do like guys with great curveballs).
  8. I've once read about how a man had schizophrenia and ate the man who sat next to him on the bus. But it it would take a ridiculously serious case of schizophrenia to resist half a dozen bullets....
  9. Deep inside I have a bad feeling that if Melvin was to trade Greinke, he would trade for "proven" mediocre major league veterans, or at least a bunch of mediocre major leaguers whose sole purpose is to fill in for the injured Brewers players.
  10. I would absolutely love it if Thornburg is brought up to the bigs, but according to Tom Haudricourt, the Brewers are already considering using Manny Parra as a spot starter.
  11. Hey Colby, what other players do the Brewers have an interest in?
  12. There aren't gonna be many impact college bats by the time the Brewers pick, if at all.
  13. You're right. The HS pitching by the time the Brewers pick isn't that great. Normally I'm all for the Brewers going for the HS arms, but this year I find myself leaning more towards HS bats. One pitcher that I am interested in, however, is Shane Watson. He has a low-90s fastball and has a lot of room to grow. And from what I've seen from a video, he seems to have a very good curveball.
  14. Apparently Weickel has dropped in mocks because he has been highly inconsistent. His mechanics have been inconsistent and his velocity has been inconsistent as well. At his best he has a low 90s fastball with a decejt changeup and a slow low 70s curveball.
  15. I don't think so for Maerrero and Recking. Reckling might come cheap but he doesn't have that great of a ceiling. Marrero has great defense but doesn't have much to offer with the bat. Sure the defense is nice, but some pop with the bat would be nice too. As for Ramsey, maybe as he has some pop with his bat. If the Brewers really want a safe pick, then there is a good chance that they'll pick Ramsey. I do, however, hope that the Brewers go for high-ceiling guys rather than guys who are have mediocre ceilings but come cheaply.
  16. It is possible, but I would prefer it if they took Trey Williams. Also I'm wondering if Gallo would actually hit enough to make use of his power. I also hope that the Brewers consider J.O Berrios. Even though he's "undersized" he has sound mechanics and a plus fastball and curveball.
  17. I'd say Bradley because he's flat out dominant without having much previous experience in pro-ball. Thornburg and Nelson has had the time to refine their stuff in the minors.
  18. If Trey Williams is available by the time the Brewers pick, would the Brewers take him?
  19. Is it just me or is Peralta's strikeout numbers decreasing again?
  20. What if Giolito is available by the time the Brewers pick? Do they take a chance on him? I was thinking if this was the case, they draft him #27, draft Clate Schmidt 28th(hoping that he signs somewhat close to slot, as he is under the radar) as a backup plan in case Giolito has more injuries in the future, and Adam Brett Walker in the supplemental. Potentially very expensive and high-risk, high-reward type of draft then, but if everything works out maybe it could be worth it.
  21. Can someone provide me a brief scouting report for JM Gold and Kyle Peterson from back in their glory days? I just want to see how good they were before making an all-disappointment rotation.
  22. Giolito has a sprained ulnar ligament and may be out for a while. How much does this affect his draft stock?
  23. Going back to what reilymcshane said about John Sickel's and Matt Garrioch's mock draft, I like the idea of the Brewers taking Clate Schmidt. He has a low-mid 90s fastball with a very good curveball and decent control. Sounds like if everything goes as planned he could be a very good #2 starter.
  24. Except that Williams, Sims, and Russell will come in around 8 million total leaving virtually nothing for the next nine rounds of the draft. Obviously HS athletes generally have higher ceilings but they aren't stupid. They know this. And it's usually why HS players are more demanding in their wants to commit to professional baseball. This isn't an issue of timing to the majors, it's a fiscal issue under the new collective bargaining agreement. If you take a look at the White Sox farm system, you'll see that it's absolutely abysmal. There's a reason why it's abysmal; they have cared far too much about finances. Sure, the Brewers have to be wary about draft budgets, but they shouldn't sacrifice great talent just because of finances. They shouldn't pick Wacha over Williams just because the former will be cheaper; that method is one of the best way to ruin a farm system pretty quickly. The Brewers shouldn't pick mediocre talent over good talent just because of financial reasons. And just like what TheCrew said, it's pretty unlikely that good college talent will be available by the time the Brewers pick anyway. Plus talents in 1st round > talents in later rounds.
