  1. Addison Russell should be there but I'm still not sure if we should risk either pick on a high-schooler. I actually think the opposite, somewhat. Unless there is a college player that just absolutely cannot be passed on, such as if Kyle Zimmer is available, then the Brewers should draft high-upside HS players. If I had a choice between drafting Nick Williams, Lucas Sims, and Addison Russell, or Brian Johnson, Kenny Diekroeger, and Michael Wacha, I would pick the former in a heartbeat. The college picks may come up to the majors sooner, but their ceiling is limited and at best they would be mediocre players, something the Brewers have plenty of right now. The HS players have a much higher ceiling and if they pan out, they could turn out to be excellent players.
  2. One thing I noticed was that ever since 2002, the Brewers have been drafting high school players in the first round the year after drafting college players in the first round, and vice-versa. Interesting pattern...
  3. If it means anything to you Haudricourt told me that the Brewers would probably sign their top two selections at the expense of the rest of the draft. Take it with a grain of salt or not.... Well the Brewers do have close to 7mil to spend on draft picks. I guess that covers roughly the first 5 rounds at the least.
  4. Wacha, Diekroeger, and Piscotty should be available by the time the Brewers draft. But Wacha is more of a #3 or #4 starter and the Brewers have plenty of those in the minors right now. Do not want. Diekroeger has a lot to prove and might have to move to 3B, but doesn't have the bat to make much of an impact there. Also do not want. Roache is a likely top 15 pick with tremendous power. Fried is a likely top 15 pick as well. Trey Williams is dropping in recent mocks so I guess there is a sliver of hope, but if he does well he may be out of the Brewers' reach. Piscotty I wouldn't mind as a pick. I'm actually hoping for some of N. Williams, T. Williams, Lucas Sims, Kyle Zimmer, Stephen Piscotty, Courtney Hawkins, Edwin Diaz.
  5. Because it's always about the Yankees, Phillies, Red Sox, and the Angels.
  6. I'm thinking of different scenarios to how the Brewers' draft would go. Scenario 1: #27- Nick Williams #28- Lucas Sims #39- Kyle Zimmer Scenario 2: #27- Kyle Zimmer #28- Lewis Brinson #39- Kenny Diekroeger Could be different combination of either/both I see the Brewers drafting more HS players than college players with their first 3 picks, because there's an abundance of HS players and a lack of good college players. Good players that should be within the Brewers range are Kenny Diekroeger, Kyle Zimmer, Stephen Piscotty, and maybe Adam Brett-Walker. On the HS side, however, there's Lewis Brinson, Lucas Sims, Nick Williams, Ty Hensley, Duane Underwood, Rio Ruiz, Clate Schmidt, and more. While there's not much choice in terms of college talent, there's plenty to choose from with the HS talent.
  7. Pitchers I want the Brewers to draft: Lucas Sims- A fastball that can touch the upper 90s with a very good curveball along with a changeup that could become an above-average pitch in the future seems pretty tough to ignore. Hunter Virant- Could have 3 above average pitches in the future and has tons of room to grow and add velocity. From a video I watched, it seems as though the slider/curveball and the changeup flashes some great potential. Kyle Zimmer- Very good fastball/curveball combination. Most excited about the curveball. Changeup doesn't seem all that bad from what I've read. Position players I want the Brewers to draft: Trey Williams- Has the bat to hit for average and power, and could provide solid defense at the hot corner as well. Could be drafted well ahead of the Brewers' picks, but he's been falling in the recent mocks so hopefully there's a sliver of hope that he will be available by the time the Brewers pick. Nick Williams- Very raw, but has tons of potential; a potential 5-tool player. Also has been falling in mocks, possibly because he's so raw. Courtney Hawkins- Another OF with solid tools across the board. It is more plausible that he's gonna be around when the Brewers pick than with both the Williams's. Lewis Brinson- Solid tools across the board, has been compared to Cameron Maybin. Seems plausible that he's gonna be around when the Brewers pick.
  8. Recently Trey Williams have been falling in mocks. I would absolutely be ecstatic if the Brewers manage to draft him. Also, Zimmer is 6'3, not 6'8.
  9. Right, because having 2 hitters who can hit 20+ home runs and having a very good rotation makes for a lost season.
  10. There are way too many bandwagon fans on the Yankees' side. Most of them can't even come up with logical trade scenarios.
  11. Still 4 months 'til the draft. I need moar mocks!!! Currently hoping for 2 position players and 1 HS pitcher.
  12. By the way, what's the alloted draft pool for the Brewers?
  13. Even with the new CBA, the big-market teams can suffice by signing star free agents while the small market teams can't. Also, since the FA compensation has been further restricted, such as the raise in the arbitration requirements, the small market teams probably won't be able to take their chances on offering arbitration to an impending FA. The new CBA seems to be heavily leaning towards big-market teams. More dominance by the likes of the Yankees, Phillies, Angels, and Red Sox, I suppose.
  14. Last night I had a dream that the Brewers were close to signing Cespedes... o.0
  15. I was browsing through a forum site and I found that someone had commented about Ty Hensley: "Great observations, but I have to tell you I see Ty Hensley going way higher then 50 something...up until last weekend wasn't so sure. Had my doubts on pitchability. I watched the kid throw a weekend ago at a showcase event. He has lost 20lbs of baby fat and has changed his body completely, showed a NASTY ch which I had never seen before and I have been watching him for 3 years, and a 12-6 downer. His coach said he hit 98 on the gun the week before...he isn't the same kid I watched on TV this summer...just saying. His father was also a Card. I am routing for him to be our 1st pick at 23. Yeah I'm an Okie...but if he does what I saw he was capable of last weekend he will prove himself worthy. " If this is true, then he seems like a very interesting pick. But since I haven't heard much else about Hensley I don't know the legitimacy of this report.
  16. Dave Duncan's not there to rub some magic onto him anymore.
  17. Does anyone think that Rizzo will play in Arizona next season or will he stay in DSL for another season?
  18. The problem is that the Brewers scouting org hasn't seen the importance of pitching up until recently. In the last draft they finally had some understanding of the importance of pitching, but drafting for upside rather than polish and work-horseness would be even better. I do like how they drafted Lopez, as it shows that they're finally willing to draft raw players, but getting Jungmann while leaving out Barnes and Guerrieri really made little sense. I felt that the Brewers drafted Jungmann just because he's 6'6 and he's gonna be able to chew up tons of innings, rather than because he had great stuff (while both Guerrieri and Barnes had better stuff than him).
  19. I definitely hope that the Brewers don't become too gung-ho about the "polish-first" method.
  20. According to Jon Heyman, the Dodgers offered Fielder 7 years and about 160mil. An 18th overall pick would've been nice too...
  21. I don't regret a thing about the Brewers not getting Cespedes. He's already 26 years old and he's had massive fits against sliders. I'd rather see the Brewers take their chances on Soler.
  22. When does the minor league season start, by the way?
  23. Well in the recent mocks Nick Williams has been projected to be taken in the later half of the 1st round. I think and hope there is a chance that he may fall to #27.
  24. I actually did not see this coming. The mystery team factor strikes again.
  25. My guess is that since the 1st and the supplemental rounds will be the only time the Brewers will be able to spend relatively much in the draft, they will focus more on the HS players(they do need some high-ceiling talent). I'm hoping for N. Williams, Lucas Sims, and/or Duane Underwood.
