  1. At least Volstad was decent-ish and Lawrie turned out nicely so far. :P I already have a list of which players I want the Brewers to draft.
  2. Actually, he's had 1 otherworldly season and a few good seasons and 1 meh season. And Bradley, Jungmann, Peralta and Thornburg are just prospects and are far from guarantees. It's still too early to say that they're the Brewers rotation of the future. I think the Brewers should extend Greinke but not Marcum.
  3. But what I hate is how the public is already jumping to conclusions even though hardly any of them know what really happened. All they know is that Braun failed a test, but they don't know HOW he failed it(what caused the failed test).
  4. Just a little beside the point here, but I find that the public tends to be gullible in a way that they'll believe any scandal the media regurgitates, but they won't believe any signs of innocence out there. Now Braun may be guilty, or may have taken some medications, or there may be a slight chance he's completely innocent, but whatever happens the public will always view him as a cheater.
  5. After shelling out more than 100 mil on Darvish i doubt they'll be willing to spend 20 mil per year on Fielder. Plhs they would have to extend other players pretty soon, i think.
  6. I did hear a similar rumor, but it was before the Rangers signed Darvish. So it may be old news that isn't as valid anymore.
  7. I'm actually hoping that they'll get a couple of the following: Nick Williams, Lucas Sims, Duane Underwood, Joey Gallo, Courtney Hawkins, Rio Ruiz. I think the Brewers should now concentrate on high ceiling HS players in the first and supplemental rounds, as there are already enough moderate-ceiling players in the farm system right now. Even if the player is raw and may take time to develop, they should take the risk because no matter how many moderate-ceiling or #3 starters they get, they're not gonna improve the farm system that much. It's fine to solidify a farm system with players like Jungmann, but now it's time to get some high-ceiling guys in the first round.
  8. Although I didn't like the quick-to-the-majors-but-low-ceiling pick in Jungmann, I do think the Brewers are going in the right direction in terms of the draft. They did take some raw players who could turn out to be something special with guys like Lopez, Reed, McFarland, and Jenkins. It shows that they are not afraid of taking raw players. Hopefully it translates into the first round as well.
  9. Not that Oswalt can pitch 200 innings anymore.
  10. Despite Wolf's success, I don't think the Brewers will get an impressive return in a trade. I'm leaning towards just keeping him until he hits FA and get draft picks(if he's good enough to be a Type B or above). Of course I know that there's a possibility that he'll stumble big time, but I'd rather take my chances with a draft pick than a mediocre return.
  11. Plus even with the new TV contract and increase in ticket prices, I doubt their payroll will increase to Yankees level. There's no way the Brewers' popularity level will reach the likes of the Yankees, Red Sox, Angels, etc. so they won't be able to hand out 150mil contracts at will. They will be financially crippled nonetheless.
  12. So you want the Brewers to destroy the farm system even further to get 3 or so more of possible playoff appearances? Sure, they may contend for a few more years but then they are gonna plummet. They are also not gonna get an ace out of Jungmann, Peralta, etc. Probably a mid- rotation starter. They cant trade for pitching forever. They would eventually have to develop it.
  13. Brewers without Greinke and Marcum but with Fielder = 2009 and 2010 BrewersAnd plus I don't think DM has any more prospects to trade for pitching. They'll probably be able to get 1 mid-rotation pitcher, but that isn't much. To fully advocate signing Fielder seems shortsighted. He's not gonna go below 100mil and the Brewers still have to pay for Braun, Gallardo, Weeks, and Hart. Not to mention that once they do sign Fielder they'll be badly handcuffed by the contract even if they trade Wolf and K-Rod. If the Brewers sign Fielder then they're possibly sacrificing the success of the team for 5+ years from now for a couple more opportunities for the World Series. Seems pretty shortsighted to me.
  14. Well, it seems that he's gonna Favre it. And i believe he's gonna Favre it over and over again until he finally crumbles into dust.
  15. You're putting way too much trust that the Brewers will win more pennants. Do they have a chance? Definitely. But is it a guarantee? Far from it. And plus Jungmann, Bradley, Thornburg, and Peralta are still just prospects and are far from sure things to succeed in the majors. To go with that mindset is to take a large gamble, a gamble that can easily backfire.
  16. Not entirely sure when Diaz will be picked, but from what I've read at Perfect Game, he still needs to work on his offspeed stuff, and from what I've seen on video, he could use some work on his mechanics(although not too drastic). I'd say at the worst he could fall to the 2nd round. As for Sims and Virant, I'm hoping that if the Brewers get a pick towards the middle of the 1st round from Fielder that they would draft one of Sims or Virant. And nowadays I'm hearing a little that Sims may be a latter half of the round talent, so there may be a chance he may fall to the Brewers for at #28.
  17. I'd actually prefer Sims and Virant over Traver. I heard that Traver still needs to work on his offspeed stuff, and while his projection is intriguing, Sims already has a well established offspeed stuff in his curveball and I heard his changeup isn't that far behind either. As for Virant, I just give him the edge because hard-throwing lefties with tons of room to grow don't grow on trees. I'm very intrigued by Edwin Diaz. He seems to have a lot of room to grow along with a fastball that can touch the mid-90s. He still has to smooth out his mechanics, but he has some time to do so. Wouldn't mind the Brewers getting him later in the draft.
  18. Assuming that he got tested periodically throughout the season, it would take a quick technological advancement to discover a previously undiscovered source of synthetic testosterone. I really can't wait until this is all cleared up. The media's been feeding people a variety of things, and there are so many false information to the point that the majority of people out there are confused(and they probably don't know it).
  19. And Colby, what are your thoughts on Rhett Wiseman?
  20. Some things don't add up, though. If he had been using synthetic testosterone throughout the season, he would have been caught earlier than October. And you say that there wouldn't be a huge benefit of taking it in the playoffs. I wonder what really happened.
  21. He's been tested throughout the season too. The tests came out negative. Also, didn't someone said that Braun got tested positive for a banned substance rather than a PED? Why are people still thinking he's been taking steroids?
  22. But still, the only abnormal thing about Braun's performance was his batting average/hits, and playoffs are small samples to begin with. So that can't be totally attributed to steroids.
  23. I'm not advocating the Brewers to sign Fielder. That's a big chunk of money, even if they go 5/130 or 6/150. They probably would have to dismantle the team beyond Wolf and K-Rod and ticket and TV revenue would not do that much either. Prince is a great player, but to dismantle the team just because of one player is pretty short-sighted.
  24. Even though i cant accurately dispute the legitimacy of the test, i dont think that the increased testosterone helped Braun much. He had taken tests in the regular season and came clean, so i doubt he's been taking any sythetic testosterone in the regular season. As for during the postseason, if he did have an advantage with the testosterone, he would have shown more power. But he only hit 2 home runs.
