  1. Seems pretty unlikely that we managed to sign Nunnallee
  2. I think it’s just Levonas’s slot we’re losing. We signed everyone else in the top 10.
  3. Next year’s class is supposed to be stronger, right? It’s too bad we have to wait a whole year to see how the next draft pans out.
  4. With the Day 3 signings coming in, I think this may be the final nail in the coffin for any hopes of signing Levonas.
  5. Not a total loss, but I hope we don’t make a habit of tempting fate like this. I know HS picks can be fickle, but I would have thought there would have been some “Would you sign for X” discussions prior to the pick.
  6. If true, it sucks that we used up a relatively high pick on a guy who won’t sign. I wonder what went on behind the scenes- did we draft him without being reasonably sure that he’d sign, or did he change his mind?
  7. Given that it’s a pretty sizable chunk of draft capital on the line, I have to imagine the FO drafted Levonas fully expecting to sign him. If Levonas doesn’t sign, I think it’s more likely that he changed his mind AFTER he got drafted.
  8. If that’s the case it might work out well for us. Sloan may have been the higher regarded prospect, but all HS prospects are lottery tickets to begin with so the more you have, the better.
  9. It’s just raining lottery tickets now. I hope we’ll be able to sign most of them!
  10. Day 2 of the draft makes so much more sense now lol If we manage to sign these HS guys, it could again be one hell of a draft
  11. I wonder if this will be the start of the floodgates opening. Since there’s no risk of losing slot money tomorrow, it would be a good time for us to go nuts on lottery tickets.
  12. Meccage and Levonas must cost a fortune if we’re spending much of Day 2 trying to save money.
  13. Unless there’s some late surprises, I feel like this is gonna be a common theme lol
  14. HS pitcher with elite spin again. I approve! Overall a pretty similar draft to last year- early picks that had people scratching their heads and then swinging for the fences later on.
  15. Kinda peeved that the Mariners took the guy I wanted not once, but twice. Wanted Cijntje and they took him. Wanted Sloan, and they took him. That being said, I like what I’m hearing about Meccage. I’ll take a HS pitcher with good build and elite spin any day of the week.
  16. Just when I thought we were gonna take our usual college hitter, the FO throws a curveball. I have to imagine this is more of an underslot lottery ticket to enable us to swing for the fences later.
  17. I mean that was the kind of profile we favored up until last year- slap hitters we’d hope would develop some pop (and usually never would)
  18. I can’t see us taking a HS pitcher early in the draft. 2nd round maybe, but not in the 1st. If I had to guess, it’s gonna be a college hitter. And of the guys listed in the article, Benge seems to be pretty solid. I do kinda like the idea of drafting Brecht and seeing what our pitching lab can do with him. His control is BAD, but if we can improve that even a little, he may turn out to be something special.
  19. “Trading ace for budgetary relief” doesn’t sound that much better. Here’s to hoping that Ortiz keeps up his performance!
  20. I really hope Hall turns things around and avoids the “We really traded our ace for this guy?” category.
  21. I know it’s extremely early in the season, but I hope that Hall gets his velo up and figures out his command, because otherwise the Burnes trade would look a bit less palatable
  22. If that’s true, then I stand corrected. It’s still a bit of a bitter pill to swallow to have to send away home grown talent once they reach the peak. I hope that there will be more moves coming soon, because this offseason has been a bit of a head-scratcher for me.
  23. IMO the team has been pretty good, but hasn’t been quite good enough get over the hump. I don’t think they’ll settle into a stretch of mediocrity, but it’s hard to be optimistic that they’ll become much better than they already have been. Feels like the payroll has been relatively unchanged for the past several years- I feel like the limit has been hovering around $100m ever since I was in high school. And I’m almost 30 now. I don’t expect the Brewers to financially compete with the likes of the Dodgers and Yankees, but this kind of status quo feels more like a “We’re just happy to be reasonably competitive” mentality. This offseason in particular seems to lack a strong direction- just the FO seemingly trying to make the team look mildly competitive.
  24. I’m just confused as to what the FO’s goal is. It just feels like this team is in limbo- just good enough to maybe get to the postseason, but not quite good enough to get very far after that. This team is also not terrible enough to warrant a rebuild. The FO does nothing for much of the offseason, then gets some buzz going by getting Hoskins, and then trades away their best pitcher for guys that are likely solid regulars, but unlikely to become much more than that.
  25. Can’t say I’m surprised that we didn’t get much more than this given that Burnes had one year left on his contract (and his numbers seemed to be slowly trending in the wrong direction), but I gotta say, this is a bit of a befuddling offseason. We do nothing for a good chunk of it, then we get a much needed bat at 1B, and then we trade away our best pitcher for a likely reliever, an infielder version of Frelick, and a comp pick. It’s like the FO can’t decide if they want to compete or not.
