  1. Batting Kotsay behind Fielder is a terrible decision IMO. There aren't any good options to put behind Prince but you at least pick any one of the righties, except Gomez of course.
  2. Answer (personally): Because when the pitcher throws over to first it means he's thinking about the runner, so why not augment that by booing, give him another thing to think about besides the hitter?
  3. I'm not pushing an argument for Hart/McGehee, just pushing the arguement that different players get different approaches from pitchers and responding to some of the comments that > wOBA = better hitter. Prince sees a lot of LHP specialists because he is a less complete hitter and is easier neutralized by micro managing. It's a quality that is definitely beneficial because managers go crazy and wear out their bullpen trying to play matchups against him. However, I like Braun better because he is better at hitting any pitch from any pitcher. I have more confidence in him in a late inning situation to take the lead than Fielder because Fielder is more likely to wave at sliders and strike out if the other team needs an out and wants to play the matchup game. However, he does fine when the starting pitcher is going through the majority of the game. Both great hitters, but Prince is easier to take out of the game if you want to.
  4. I prefer Braun because he is less streaky and he can cover the entire plate the best. Fielder can be neutralized too easily by a LHP throwing sliders on the outside corners. He doesn't go with pitches on the corners, he waits for mistakes. Braun does both. Statistics get relied on too much in baseball. The way the game is, you can use them more than just about any sport. They are still just an analysis tool though and not the be all, end all evaluator. For example, Corey Hart batting 2nd and Casey McGehee batting 5th around Braun and Fielder wouldn't put up half as good of stats as if they were relied on as the meat of the order. Corey gets a lot of fast balls there and McGehee gets runners on base. You have to adjust for lots of things like that and use your eyes and common sense in tandem with the stats and sabermetrics, which are excellent and tell a lot of the story, but not everything.
  5. Nieves defense is overrated. He only gets the label because it's better than his offense which is putrid. Lucroy is a right handed hitter with better defense. Why keep a crappy version of your starter instead of a backup that you can play matchups with and get better offensive production if you play him the right day? The discrepancy in their defensive skills is not that big of a gap, IMO, certainly not close to justifying his roster spot.
  6. I have to imagine this wouldn't have happened if we had been quiet this offseason. I don't know if Braun would have signed his life to Milwaukee if we didn't show consistent effort in bringing in top caliber players at least once in every 3 years or so, while remaining competitive in the time between.
  7. Braun strikes me as the kind of person that would want to be the front and center franchise piece that wants to drive his home team to the World Series one day. I don't think the money matters much to him as long as he's getting at least ~75% of what top dollar would be, which is right about where I would place this contract. I have to think this makes Greinke super comfortable about signing, something I expect to happen next offseason if we go to the playoffs. He strikes me as having the same mentality.
  8. I was also really confused why people were so frightened by a double switch in a 9-0 game that rested Braun
  9. 4 run cushion is really nice especially with a warn out bullpen and Axford struggling. Hopefully we can get to the 9th with a decent lead and when Axford comes in he can just throw 96 MPH fastballs down the middle of the plate instead of walking guys like he's done every game.
  10. Somehow we only have 2 errors. I counted at least 4 (YunE6's and Brauns throw). Braddock vs. Howard please
  11. Not really much to complain about since we might have left Kintlzer in to bat anyway
  12. Is there a worse arm than Ibanez starting in the corner outfield anywhere in the MLB?
  13. What does it matter? In a few days Morgan will hit there and a few days later it will be Hart.
  14. unfortunately getting deep into the Phillies bullpen does almost nothing for us thru the rest of the series because we will probably see them for something like 2 total innings with Halladay and Lee starting
  15. I have to agree with Prince complaining there. At least ask the 3rd base ump you bum.
  16. This game shouldn't even be in extra innings. We've had RISP in 6 or 7 innings with only 3 runs to show for it, which is abysmal.
  17. come on anything besides a walk Axe I'm running out of patience/confidence with him
  18. I am a fan of the Axe but wow I am scared as hell for the bottom of the 9th right now
  19. even if we win this game, scoring only 3 runs when you have RISP in 5 innings is still an offensive failure
