  1. Why is it that Lucroy's throws always look so nice but he's hardly ever getting guys out? Slow release? Pitchers taking too long? Bad pitches to throw on? Other teams are really good at picking spots to run on him?
  2. He has an OPS over 2.000 for this series, DFA Morgan and start Gomez
  3. Wow their 4 hitter avg .216 and no one hitting 6-9 over the .200 mark. Narveson pounding the strike zone against the leadoff man. Good strategy today.
  4. Gallardo and Liriano profile as very similar pitchers IMO, except for the righty/lefty aspect
  5. I really, really don't think 'lighting a fire' under Casey would help, because I don't think he's lazy at all. He's looked better in the past 1-2 weeks than he has all season, but I would still drop him in the order to 7. That would be the next step, and if he can't produce there, then it's time to give someone else (Green) some playing time to see if he can be an upgrade going into the end of the season.
  6. Well I'm happy that the sum of Marcum and Estradas efforts today was a quality start. Please put Marcum on the 15 day DL and save him for the tail end of the season.
  7. Not feeling great about Greinke especially when these hitters see him a 2nd time. Some pitches getting a lot of the strike zone and some others throw aways. Feeling a 6.1 IP, 4 ER type start.
  8. Greinke has good numbers against the Rays. Maybe we'll finally see a dominant start out of him. It's possible that he does better when he has experience with the hitters a little bit.
  9. I think the ump crew is doing a good job today. I feel like I should say that because usually people only notice when they screw up.
  10. Antibiotics will cure it 95% of the time within a week, probably just a couple days. He'll probably be available as a pinch hitter today if necessary, maybe miss 1 or 2 more games but they can probably manage it with medication to cover the symptoms in the short term until the antibiotics kick in.
  11. Just heard Ryan Braun is out with a respiratory infection, Kotsay in left and Corey Hart batting 3rd /sad
  12. I really love our line up against RHP. Well, I really wish we had just an average short stop, but besides that, this is a really solid 1-9 especially with my confidence in McGehee growing every game.
  13. His poor WHIP combined with good save percentage suggests one of two things: -He is due for regression and blown saves when hitters start hitting with RISP -He is able to 'bear down' when things get tough The eye ball test strongly suggests the latter
  14. It's at the point where we probably get better if we just DFA Betancourt. Start Josh Wilson. If you aren't going to start Betancourt at least half the time I don't see any value he brings from the bench. The only thing he supposedly can do is hit home runs but since that has happened 3 times in 251 plate appearances this year, he isn't even a legitimate power pinch hitter. Replacement level would out perform avg, fielding, baserunning, obp, everything except maybe power.
  15. The fracture is actually the radius bone in his left fore arm. I'd speculate that an injury to the fore arm would be a little easier to come back from than a wrist injury and that the left fore arm would be worse than the right for a right handed hitter.
  16. At this point in the season I think we are in great shape injury wise. Non closer relievers are probably the easiest injury hit to take. If we lose any starting position player besides CF and SS (and maybe 3B depending on your opinion of Casey) would be devastating to this team though.
  17. Well at this point in the season I care way more about how many games over .500 we are than a division lead. The 2 games we lost this series happened because the Red Sox are really good and their entire lineup hit as well as they can hit. All I learned this series is that I am so glad we don't play in the AL East.
  18. I think I would be about equally happy with the Red Sox series and disappointed in the Cubs series, so if we win today then I'd call it a wash
  19. I love Ax because if he can locate his stuff he is virtually unhittable. It is also worth noting how his 2 blown saves happened: opening day, and the other one was like a 3-2 game where he gave up 1 run and we ended up winning the game. It's easy for me to give him a mulligan for opening day and count the second one as half of a blown save or something.
  20. Well I do like DHing Braun so we can have a really awesome defensive outfield
  21. Losing 1 game to the Red Sox isn't anything I'd normally worry about but I really wanted to win the opener because the next 2 pitching match ups make me worried about a losing streak. Randy Wolf vs Jon Lester (unfavorable and we do poor against LHP)Yovani Gallardo vs Tim Wakefield (can we hit a knuckle ball?)
  22. Probably because throwing 44 pitches in 1 inning is about as stressful as throwing 130 in 7. Keep him fresh for August and September please. Marcum our most vulnerable pitcher to wearing down IMO.
  23. Can we stop putting so much stock into stats like K/9, BB/9, BABIP? If a pitcher is throwing straight fast balls right down the middle,- he will get some strike outs because even the best hitters will put that pitch in play at best half the time- he won't walk many- he will have a high BABIP that some people will call bad luck but it is just as likely that the pitcher is throwing pitches that are getting hit very hard It's not like these are meaningless stats but please don't look at them like they directly translate to bad luck.
