  1. You spend you’re entire post arguing that we won’t know the actual revenue & expenses because the team is privately owned and yet you end it with a conclusion (“The fact of the matter”), which can only be made if you know the exact numbers. So is it a fact when you make it up and not when Brew Crew 92 makes it up? Or is it a fact when it’s positive for the Brewers and Attanasio/ and just made up when it’s negative?
  2. Yeah noone has been acting like that. It's just a straw man that a few posters (Or maybe it was SeaBass who did it last month too, can't remember) have used to make a point. For what reason, I really couldn't tell. Unfortunately, it has become the status quo here are brewerfan to throw up these straw man arguments at every turn. Saying everyone believes in one extreme is just absolute nonsense. Hiura can't pitch. He is solving the least problematic part of the equation. I'm glad he's here and I expect him to rake but I'm not going to get excited until the pitching whoas are solvdd. This is another fallacy. Unless baseball changed the rules, the team that scores the most runs wins. This argument is like saying we only score 4.8 runs per game and give up 5 so the best way is to improve the pitching (where from?) so we give up less than 4.8 is the way to fix the problem. How about we improve the offense to 5 and improve the pitching to 4.9? or improve the offense to 5.1 and stick with the pitching at 5?
  3. Didn't really sneak up this year. He didn't hit for any power last year either. And the Reds are only on the hook for another ~$120M... yeah that was a smart extension...
  4. From our friends at Fangraphs (fWAR) Arcia = Pina = Nottingham = Burnes Hiura = Braun Arcia and Braun have more than 200 PA compared to their "equals" Yeah those hard hit balls really matter...
  5. It's complex and we probably won't know for sure the impact of each of the components, but I would add that pitch selection/sequencing may be a very important area where DJ excelled.
  6. Maybe not in World Cup soccer but it still exists. And it's not simply to screw over women but to make more money by paying them less. Keith, I think your response says more than mine. Nowhere did I assign a blame or even imply the conclusion you came to. In fact, I mostly agree with Homer, it exists because they can get away with paying the women less. I don't believe nor did I include anywhere "between the lines" that there is an active attempt to discriminate against the women. If they could pay the men less they would (not that I am advocating that as a solution - I would prefer to raise the underpaid and maybe stop paying the "execs" so much money). While the revenue argument is thrown around, I don't see the relevance (especially the article that was linked above). This isn't a private/professional sport/business. This is no different than the Olympics - a group of athletes representing their country. The revenue the teams bring in doesn't come close to covering costs. The mens team secured $8M for the US federation for the 2014 world cup and $0 for the 2018. The cost of maintaining a team over 4 years far surpasses the $8M income and without an appearance in 2018 there's a revenue hit. These are subsidized and it's the cost of trying to maintain world dominance in another area. The fact this is a group of athletes representing our country I think there's a good argument that there should be equitable treatment across the board. Especially when one team is presenting the US in a positive light to the rest of the world and the other not so much.
  7. I wonder what the Mariners fans reaction was to the Lind trade after Freddy's first game and now? I would guess, a lot of gnashing of teeth and we 'lost big' after the first start and probably not so much now. It's hard to judge these things at this point. Who knows where any of the 4 will end up. Based on his play in the majors, to date, Brinson is a failure. He may end up being the only one of the 3 to have long-term success. I still think it was a good trade for both teams. The Marlins maximized their return for a player they didn't have the resources to build around and the Marlins got several upside players. It's quite possible Yelich puts up 40 fWAR as a Brewer. I doubt those 4 match that, but who knows.
  8. Media? What really is the media anymore? There are so many outlets today with cable/online/etc that the talent making up the media has been so diluted that 90% of those that are "media" are crap at best. The good thing about growing up with 3/4 channels was that there was quality across the board. More channels/outlets just means more crap. Soon everyone will have their own streaming outlet and 0.000000001% will be quality. So I don't care about what most of the "media" has to say. Twitter? This is a generational thing as young people seem to care about what happens on Twitter. This old man could care less. Social media propagates the lowest common denominator of human behavior. One person's stupidity is amplified, while 99.999% of the others are ignored. Math is important. If 10 people complain it's somehow a big deal, when there are literally millions who don't object, but we don't put them into proportion... But Twitter is great, everyone has a voice... yawn... former players If any group has a disproportionate amount of attention placed on them it is former players. Many spend vast amounts of their time perfecting their performance in a game when the rest of us are going to class and, well, learning things... This is likely the least enlightened group out there. In case you haven't seen it, many of the women's players are suing the US Soccer federation because the men's team (who've done nothing, but embarrass the US with their international play) gets better pay, treatment, facilities, etc. while the women's team, which has mostly been the preeminent female soccer team on the planet, has been short changed across the board. I can see where they may be over-reacting, but as JimH pointed out, the men's basketball team was never called out for their lopsided wins. The women, rightfully, have a chip on their shoulders and if you look at what they've accomplished vs. the men's team and then look at how they are treated by the US soccer federation, it's clear to see why they are touchy about what they see as a double standard.
  9. It would be nice if we had a bullpen that could keep things close when the SP was taken to the woodshed by the other team. It would also help if CC understood bad Freddy isn't the type of pitcher you try to get 1 more inning out of when your team is trailing by 1. That 4 run 5th really did in the Brewers - take it away and they are battling to the end in a close game (or minimize the damage by going to the bullpen to start the 5th), maybe even winning a tough game against a good team. Instead another kick in the ass loss.
  10. Well Hook has worked wonders this year - 1 pitcher improves, 1 remains the same and 15 are hot garbage...
  11. That AAA lineup the Astros are trotting out there really isn't that good... So I've heard... Hate to see what the A-team would look like...
  12. Well there is a band called "Hot Garbage"... I think Freddy should pick one of their songs for his walkup song...
  13. No, Matt had more power. Matt Gamel was more Shaw than Ben. *Mat I blame Mr. and Mrs. Gamel. They insulted the gods by spelling Matt, Mat. They could have saved their wrath by spelling Ben, Benn...
  14. I think the league realizes he's struggling and challenges him the first pitch. He couldn't jump on a waist high 91MPH fastball in his hot spot just inside the center of the plate. Pitch 2 was also in the zone so he was down 0-2 on strikes. He just isn't seeing the ball well and it's anyone's guess why.
  15. One Of These Things (Is Not Like The Others) One of these things is not like the others, One of these things just doesn't belong, Can you tell which thing is not like the others By the time I finish my song?
  16. He's putting up numbers similar to 2016/2107 where he was a 2.6fWAR per season pitcher. If the Brewers had a back end of the rotation of 2.6fWAR, they would be in the running for best record in the NL and have the Dodgers worrying about how to match the Brewers.
  17. I'm not sure you can even go with most optimistic number as his consistency the last 3 years and over 300IP is a 1.4 fWAR/100IP player. That's not horrible, but as your number crunching indicates, given contract status, he's really not worth much of anything. How about the rights to Victor Roache... Is he even still playing? What happened to Dykstra? Rights to Dave Krynzel? A pair of season tickets to the Brewers? I can't think of something tangible that would not be an overpay...
  18. While both are having some pretty crappy years compared to their contracts/previous years, [sarcasm]the good thing is that they are signed to 10/+ year guaranteed contracts. So they can make it up in volume...[/sarcasm]
  19. Does "Extreme dark horse" = measles strain that only infects the top 150 players? Then yes he might have a chance.
  20. BumMad isn't the same player he was in his prime. He's been pretty consistent the last 300IP and that's a 1.4 WAR/100IP. Last year Wade Miley was better than that and Chacin was comparable. Both of those guys signed as FA for pretty reasonable money. I wouldn't trade any ONE of the 3 you mentioned for about another 1.3 WAR of BadBum. I would much rather see the Brewers go after Trevor Bauer than waste resources on BumScrad. Sure Bauer is a prick, but a talented one. Another possibility of a rental would be Zack Wheeler, who is better then MadScum right now and could be available if the mets become a non-factor in the playoff hunt come the trade deadline. Another 2021FA option would be Robbie Ray, who might be more expensive as the Dbacks want to dump Greinke's salary (who's another target if the Dbacks eat a ton of salary).
  21. I believe you were the poster who claimed (in a post in the record/playoff thread) that the teams behind the Brewers in the standings have deep farm systems and can add talent to address injuries/needs. Here you post the Astros are littered with "AAA bats". I know you've posted in the past that many at Brewerfan talk out of both sides of their mouths, yet this seams to me like talking out of both sides of your mouth. Can you clarify how the Astros AAA additions are different than other teams farm system depth?
