  1. Maybe we can convince Elon Musk that Braun is a perfect astronaut... Musk then buys out the remainder of his contract and launches Ryan into space so that he is now “lost in space”... FOX can base Braun’s astronaut training to remake the classic series “lost in space” (a remake where you don’t want all the characters to die)... more likely than Braun isn’t done?
  2. Absolutely should happen, absolutely Won’t. I’d drop him to 8th in the batting order and leave the P 9th because you need someone to get on for the top of the order...
  3. Maybe we can see what the Reds would take for their 2B? We could probably trade them Villar straight up as they would take the salary relief. I would then fully expect Villar, within 6 months, to be playing like an all-star.
  4. Don't rule out seeing Asher again, maybe even as a starter. He did just what was asked last night. Throw garbage from the right side after Suter threw garbage from the left side? Sure Asher actually appeared to be able to keep most of his pitches down, while Suter still works too high for the crap he throws, I wouldn't be too excited about Asher with the repertoire he has. I don't get why location is so important for our hard throwing pitchers, but soft tossers like Suter and Asher get a pass at pretty pedestrian location...
  5. I get it that prospect lists are suspect, and there's a lot of guesswork in projecting players. But what if year after year, a highly considered farm system under produces? Then isn't it less about the player and more about minor league instruction? This franchise has sold us on patience and development and building from within. But if they can't produce star hitters, then we're doomed to rooting for scrapheap guys. Exactly. It's also telling when players leave Milwaukee/their farm system they become successful. Drafting is only the beginning. Way too little has been done to make sure the player development post-draft has the right people. As JimH accurately points out and which has been plainly clear for a long time, the Brewers rarely produce star players unless they were already close when drafted. If Stearns doesn't have the time to evaluate the player development group then he needs to clean house and bring in a new group. Sure, things could get worse, but the margin for error downward is low and the gains upward are great.
  6. Bandy and Villar walked in the same inning... that's like watching a perfect game...
  7. Counsell knows you can just PH for the pitcher doesn't he? He doesn't have to always double switch one of our better hitters out of the lineup to leave the other crap.... He does know that?
  8. If Sogard’s traveling is anything like his hitting he probably missed his flight to Colorado Springs...
  9. Can Jim Gantner bend over? He might just work for the post-game food spread... Don't get much veteran grit than that and he bats left handed! Check Check Check...
  10. This move and the endless Sogard Saga were all made to make us appreciate the next move Stearns will make in a few days.... Activating Counsell as player/manager... This just shows you why David Stearns is the GM and we are just all wanna bees... While we were throwing out outrageous suggestions he was ticking all the boxes: Veteran Grit.... Check Hits Left Handed... Check Is currently part of the Brewers organization and won't cost a dime to acquire... Check
  11. You are declaring Arcia isn't a long-term solution? I don’t think the phrase “really suspect” is a declaration that he is not. If you took it to mean that would “deep concerns” work better. As others have pointed out he had very little success in the minors. There are always places for great fielding SS in teams that don’t have so many holes in their lineup, but with the lack of production from the other spots, his defense (which hasn’t been stellar so far) doesn’t make up for his offensive failings. If we could get an upgrade at C and 2B then sure Arcia has a long-term shot for the Brewers. Not every underproduction has to be addressed, but if you only bring defense to the table you need to be able to lay down a bunt or hit the ball to the right side to move a runner to third. He can be a lot more productive with his outs than he has been and he might not benefit from a demotion, but if we can’t find answers at 2B and C then Ss should definitely be in the discussion.
  12. We need to get better production out of the 4 black holes in the offense (SP, 2B, SS, C) quickly or this is going to be a long season. There isn’t any solution to the abysmal batting performance from our SP so that position is what it is. At C there really isn’t a short term solution, we could try Betancourt, but he isn’t likely to be the answer and while I like Nottingham I don’t think his bat is ML ready. At SS, I doubt Dubon is ready even when healthy and Arcia is really suspect as a long term solution as he has looked complete lost at the plate this year. When Villar routinely starts at 2B he isn’t a black hole but he also isn’t the answe given the other positional issues (he could be if we had an average/above average C/SS). Hiura is the likely only in house candidate who would bring a significant improvement to the offense, but they need to deal with his arm issue ASAP and stop dicking around. If he needs surgery, shut him down and if they think more “rest” will solve the issue they need more opinions... unfortunately without a trade we are stuck with as close to 4 automatic outs out of 9 in the lineup and we only get a partial break when we have the DH. Stearns needs to be looking for solutions outside the organization NOW. If the Mets continue their downward spiral and are out of it in July Asdrubal Cabrera could be available for cheap. Once Daniel Murphy is back, Howie Kendrick might be available. Neil walker could be available shortly as Drury should be back from the DL before Bird. While none of them are great long-term solutions they could work for the remainder of this season.
  13. Set the controls for the heart of the sun.... Name that Band without googling...
  14. I'm just saying that I think the "all he's done is hit" type of statements due to heavily inflated Colorado Springs numbers are making some a bit more hopeful than they should be about a right-handed Eric Sogard getting called up to replace Eric Sogard. The way things are going we could clone Eric Sogard, teach his clone to bat right-handed and replace Sogard 1 with Sogard 2 before the Brewers make a roster move...
  15. I would play Sogard every day (who has been more unlucky than bad) before I would give Villar another start. 2016 Johnathon Villar is long gone and never coming back. And Sogard's ceiling is Villar's current performance... I'm no Villar fan and we need to move on from him ASAP, but that doesn't mean I'm all for making a worse decision. Villar is in his 26YO season and his career arc could still improve upon his current performance. Sogard is relatively old and ain't getting any better, unless of course he can perfect the stand still and don't swing and will the pitcher to throw balls approach. And BABIP doesn't mean crap in small sample numbers... If I see another post quoting it in a small number of PA's I'm going to spew on my keyboard...
  16. I'm not sure they "know". Sure there are plenty of examples where fans are just not as informed as management about issues so our armchair approach is not informed. However, we saw last year with Drake and now, this year in part with Drake, but mostly with Sogard that management is erring on the side of being TOO conservative with their decision. I don't want a knee-jerk GM either. In fact you don't want a GM whose on the extremes of making personnel decisions, but that's what we have, a GM who is way too slow to pull the plug. Last year we missed the playoffs by one game, this year we could very well run short again, especially with the current offense. Would the Brewers have been one game better last year if they cut Drake loose in 2017? What's going to happen this year? Are we going to go months with super-sub-par performance at 3 positions before any changes are made? And what if that delay costs us another postseason trip? At some point getting the big picture right, but failing at the details isn't enough...
  17. I think this is the second Sunday in a row we have been two hit. Just wanted to point that out We're facing Kluber and Carrasco in the Indians series. Maybe we'll be no-hit the next two games. That would be worth going to MP to see...
  18. Last year, Davies would have fit your criteria of someone a "business owner" would have fired, and then he did great. So your equating Zach Davies who has several years of very good success with Eric Sogard whose career of >1500 PA has been at replacement level? Managers who panic when players go through slumps are typically the ones who end up getting fired. Sogard was signed as a backup for our 24YO SS and our 27YO 2B. Said manager is finding ways to give these two young players multiple days off each week so that a backup (who is hitting much worse than either of them) opportunities to start. There's no panic there, just really bad decisions by the manager. The next two games are against the Cleveland Indians (one of those quality teams the Brewers offense struggles against) and the Brewers will face Corey Kluber and Carlos Carrasco... Has any team been no-hit 2 games in a row? Maybe we'll see history this week... And probably 2 more shutouts...
  19. The Yankees carried a combined no-hitter into the 8th inning. Betances gave up three and another reliever gave up a fourth. Then the Indians closer Allen gave up three in the 9th and had two more on base when he got the final out. Relievers give up hits and runs. It happens. And how does that relate to the Brewers whose offense isn't even in the same league as the Yankees or Indians... pun intended...
  20. If the decision to start sogard for the third straight day is based on a combined 21 at bats by 3 players, I feel worse about the situation. Yep. Because if it's true that Craig "Clouseau" Counsell is using a handful of AB to justify his decision then he is picking and choosing how he uses statistics. Which is mismanagement at it finest. Sure today looks like the right decision, but if applied across the board Sogard shouldn't have started any other games. I have a feeling that this is Sogard’s “last straw” and that is why they are giving him a few games in a row to see if he can turn it around. Then why not play him in Cincinnati where we are facing a team with less pitching talent and his futility has less of an impact on the Brewers winning? It's not your decision so I am not getting on you RollieTime, but if that is the thinking then it's another example of poor management by the Brewers. As I've stated before, a manager who tied a record for consecutive futility isn't effected in the least by Sogard's craptastic start to the season and will continue to roll him out there. If your best case scenario is the player doesn't swing, then they have no business being on your team. As the Nugget Miner had a talking with Yost, Macha, and RRR at times, Stearns needs to have a frank conversation with CCC on his use of Sogard.
