  1. Can we at least give Weeks a month before getting on him? He will be fine. Yeah, it only took him 49 games last year to get his OPS above .600 and this year he's younger so.....
  2. Thank god we don't have any players clogging up the bases when Braunie comes up. Sure, he could knock them in, but then the game just gets boring....
  3. "Anything other than five, I'm good," Weeks said. "I feel like I'm not doing anything. You might have people [on base] in front of you, but once you drive them in, you feel like you're stagnant. The game kind of slows down to me." That could be the dumbest thing I've ever read....
  4. Yes Gallardo's mechanics are awful. They weren't in the minors but they either adjusted them on purpose or he did it when he hurt his knee. http://disciplesofuecker.com/rounding-t ... ation/8646 http://thecleanupspot.wordpress.com/tag ... -gallardo/ http://www.baseballprospectus.com/artic ... leid=20037 I read the first article at disciplesofuecker. They don't do any mechanics analysis, they are analyzing the starting rotation and their results. They quote Paul Sporer's article and say basically that the reason Yo has so many problems must be because of his mechanics. I have published over 100 peer reviewed articles. If you reference a paper that references another paper that presents a hypothesis, you do not have independent articles that both present the hypothesis or support it. If you are trying to publish a paper it would get dinged or rejected, if you were trying to get a grant, you just got a rejection. While an internet message board doesn't have the same criteria, As a scientist I have huge problems with the approaches so many sabermetricians take when performing analysis because of this type of "analysis" and because of a complete lack of understanding of the scientific method (a complete analysis of the issues would require a separate lengthy discussion). Bottom line is that I can't take seriously your assertion when you try to present 3 articles that support the poor mechanics of Gallardo when the first one isn't even an analysis of mechanics. I haven't read the rest of the articles because I don't have time.
  5. rearranging the deck chairs.....
  6. I just want to make it very clear to everyone here that there are people who on occasion hit high levels of intoxication at every age who aren't bad people, who don't have drinking problems, and who aren't endangering anyone else. Sweeping generalizations on this topic seem rather close minded. I drank more as a graduate student than when I was in college (mostly because I was being paid to be a graduate student, and as a college student I paid for my education). I typically would go out 4-5 nights a week and have 3-9 pints each night over a 4-5 hour period. Every time I drove home. While I don't drink nearly that amount anymore or to that frequency, I do think it was dangerous on some nights for me to be driving. However, in my case I didn't have the money to afford a cab and I lived 20 miles one way from my co-drinkers with no public transportation. A few times I slept on a friends couch. In those days if I had a card to get a free ride without having to pay I would have used it multiple times. Poverty was what lead to my reliance on my own car. So I can understand having a good time out and driving. Admittedly, there are 3 times in my life when I was drinking when I can't remember getting home (not now, but the next morning) and I went looking for my car each time because I had no idea where it was. Each time it was parked like it was driven home by a sober person. I also know that for 2 of the 3 times I had no food for hours before starting to drink heavily so I helped to create the situation myself. Given all of that, I'm not going to get in anyone's face unless there are clear signs that the drinking is more than just a social event. In Yo's case, he did a lot wrong when there were clearly multiple times where he could have done the smart thing. And maybe that's because he had so much to drink his thinking was so impaired that he didn't know how to make the right decision. For me that's happened 3 times and thankfully nobody was hurt. In that condition you don't want someone driving at high speeds on the freeway (or way too slow on a fast moving freeway). He was out drinking with others (at least he had a bodyguard) and either they were also too compromised to make clear decisions or he needs to reevaluate who is in his posse. As far as .22 being not a big deal, while it is true people will have differences in the level of their impairment, each person is ALWAYS more impaired if he has a .22 BAC than a .15 BAC than a 0.07 BAC. So there is no good from being that drunk and impaired and getting behind the wheel. As in my own personal experience, it doesn't mean something bad WILL happen, it just increases the chances and each 0.01 increases the chances more.
  7. Every time I go to a Brewers game there are 10+ people in front of me in 1 row that have a beer in hand when they first sit down and multiple times throughout the game they call the concession guy over to get another. Ah yes, the designated drunks. I've heard about them, but have never seen them in the wild. They come in separate cars, gather together during the game and drink to excess, then when the game is done go back to there groups and insist the sober people don't drive. They are truly heinous people and must be stopped. Let's just hope yo hasn't fallen into this rough crowd....
  8. James Shields was traded because of Alex Cobb and Chris Archer. Ben Revere and Denard Span were traded because of Aaron Hicks and Joe Benson etc, etc, etc. That's brilliant. I've never thought about it, but no baseball GM has traded away a player and not replaced him on the roster. It's possible, sure, but nobody has done it. In fact, it's never happened in any sport. Sure you can trade away James Shields and decide not to have a starting pitcher every 5th Game, or the Twins could just decide to not have a CF, but that would just be proactive....
  9. Yuni invented defensive indifference if I remember right That's awesome. If I knew how to change my tag line that would be it. A tip of the cap to you my friend....
  10. Can we just fire the entire bullpen and go with 10 starting pitchers who piggyback.....
  11. I think the Red Sox organization has done a lot better job keeping Fenway up to date than ANY Cubs ownership group.
  12. If this is credible, according to the bar's owner, Gallardo left the bar with his bodyguard Is Charlie Sheen his bodyguard?
  13. I'm Mac, this is my first post and I would like to take some credit for the Brewers offensive outburst based on the fact I started Barry Zito for the ole fantasy baseball team tonight. I also enjoyed the conversation I overheard between my 11 year old and 9 year old after the Yuni-B grand slam, "See, Yuni-B isn't horrible as horrible as dad says he is." To which my youngest boy responded, "You're right, I think he's worse" Ha! I see your zits and raise you a Peralta, who is killing my fantasy team because I started him in a 24 ip min H2H league when I didn't need too..... And welcome. Anyone who has a child who thinks Yuni is crap even after hitting a grand slam has great genes....
  14. Please, if it was even close to 50% they would have the police and sheriff's departments lined up along the freeway nailing drunk driver after drunk driver after games. No kidding. So to take this scientific analysis further. In all of the fan shots that I have seen tonight they have shown ~300 people and I have seen a grand total of 1 fan with a beer in there hand. So I estimate 0.3% of fans are legally drunk. QED. There's nothing in the facts that speak well of Yo. A truly stupid thing to do.
  15. In 2002 we picked Prince Fielder Drafting Weeks in 2003 was a pretty solid pick, even in retrospect. Who else should we have taken? Paul Maholm? Chad Cordero? In 2005 we picked Ryan Braun The thing is that in many drafts there isn't a lot of choice when the Brewers were drafting. In the 3 examples I've highlighted, only the Prince selection was the team making a pick that was a real choice. Prince was not ranked that high on most draft boards. In 2003, Weeks and Delmon Young were consensus top 2 with a gap between them and the rest of the field. Tampa Bay picked first and took Young so that left Weeks for the Brewers. Not many options for the Brewers. Sure, they could have picked someone else, but that would have been stupid considering the consensus at the time. In 2005 the brewers were targeting one of the stud 3B (Alex Gordon, Ryan Zimmerman, and Ryan Braun), the Royals and Nationals, picking before the Brewers, made the choice for the brewers by taking Gordon and Zimmerman, respectively. That turned out extremely well for the Brewers. If the Nats took Braun instead, we would have Zimmerman and maybe no playoff appearances to show for it. Evaluating drafts is extremely difficult because what the other teams do is just as important as what your team does. Since 2000 I think only the prince pick was clearly the brewers going outside of the expected rankings and hitting a home run. The other drafts where they were free to pick have turned, almost exclusively, into disasters.
  16. Melvin did well in hiring Jack Zdurenciek(sp? I butchered that) the previous scouting director. If you mean Dean Taylor, then yes he did an excellent job and arguably the only good he did as GM. Melvin kept Jack Z around for awhile though so he can't be a complete idiot...
  17. The odds of monkeys reproducing the works of Shakespeare by randomly hitting keys on a typewriter are greater than Weeks actually producing in the 4 hole. It is an affront to rational thinking and a disservice to the rest of the team that RR continues to slot him there. If that monkey can swing a bat sign him up. At this point I have more confidence in the monkey than brewers batters. 3 runs for my new favorite team.... Game, Set, Match.....
  18. Rickie is fine in the clutch, but he is a head case about where he hits in the lineup.
  19. Well we're a Braun suspension away from being the Houston Astros....
  20. I think it's time to convert Rogers into a reliever and groom him for the closer role. He'll struggle with control at times, but he has the stuff to be a reasonable closer and he might actually avoid the DL and pitch a full season.
  21. A day off does not guarantee no injuries. For the love of god Lucroy, please keep your suitcases on the floor where they belong. The way he's playing so far, maybe he needs a suitcase to drop on him.
  22. I would counter that the last two Brewer teams over performed. In the golden age of brewerfan.net making an assertion without anything like data to back it up lead to someone challenging them quickly that they were, well, full of it. As someone who is getting old and misses the good old days maybe you could buck the new trend and actually provide some facts to back up your contention. What? Underperformed? Please to explain how they underperformed. Yes you should ignore the dramatic change in the pitching staff and just look at the final record. We won more games with RRR than Macha. Therefore, RRR is a better manager. I think my logic 100 teacher just had a slight stroke...
  23. I blame the injuries and the bullpen for the rainout.
