Now that my favorite baseball team is the Cardinals..... I LOVE this deal.....

Aren't most scouting reports written like that? Maybe for internal use, but I've never seen that at baseball America or perfect game or many other sites. If that is the standard practice then maybe that could explain why so many can't miss prospects do miss

Bernie Pleskoff provides a thorough (and very complimentary) scouting report on Brewers SS, Jean Segura: It was informative about Segura, however,it was written like a freshman High School English Composition paper. That received a D. I can't imagine with the money milb.com is bringing in that they couldn't afford a copy editor to correct articles like this, heck I'd offer to do one now and then for free if it meant not having to read through poorly written articles like that....

All Davis has played in the minors is LF. If he can hit, and deserves a spot at MLB, he needs to find another position anyway. From bbref.com: CF (2 seasons) CF 61 games RF (3 seasons) RF 280 games LF (1 season) LF 2 games

Brewers Maryvale Spring Training Lease
xisxisxis replied to Warning Track Power's topic in Milwaukee Brewers Talk
Great to see that once again the brewers are so far behind the curve they think its a straight line. While other organizations have leveraged moves to get great new facilities, the brewers dicker around with Phoenix to get the best price. Just like never drafting players who are falling down the board due to bonus demands. Wouldn't want to invest a dollar that only returns a $1 and not $2 to the owners pockets..... -

Braun, Cano, ARod, Granderson rumored to have failed PED test
xisxisxis replied to Ennder's topic in Milwaukee Brewers Talk
So the only suspension that was leaked in advance was Braun's. Except he didn't get suspended and one of his own "consultants" was to blame. Maybe there were some rumors at the time Melky was suspended because he tried to create a defense, but rarely do we know in advance about a suspension until it happened. I don't recall a time where we knew in advance. Seems odd that we start having all these leaks.... -
Harang is signed for 7M this year, with an option/buyout for next year. The article at MLB.com says he is signed for $5M for 2013 and $8M for 2014 with a $2M buyout so the $7M would include the buyout. I'm not sure about bringing in another 4/5 pitcher, unless we have an injury, makes the Brewers better and if the orioles are in the bidding it will be too costly for the return.

I think he will have a short leash in the closer's role if he struggles early. RR has to pull the plug fast enough to avoid a Turnbow or Gagne repeat. And our backup plan is who? Henderson? He can't find the plate often as well and is the next Axford and Turnbow in waiting. Gonzalez? He's years away from being a regular closer. Who exactly is the fallback plan? Last year it was KRod and he imploded and we saw how bad it was. This year we don't even have a clear backup plan. I also worry that Gonzalez is going to end up being our regular first baseman while Hart's out. He shouldn't be the "whipping boy" if that happens, Roenicke and Melvin should. IMO, we don't have a clear candidate this year as no player is penciled into a significant role who is either a) one of the worst players in the majors (hi YunE6); or b) has poor career numbers and isn't suited for the role. I will guess that if Rickie has a slow start and so does the team that he'll get some crowd noise as well as when Axford blows opening day he will be on a short leash from fans and hear it when he struggles. Other than those two, if the team really doesn't perform well this year the fans will either check out early or they will be indiscriminate in their abuse. Bottom Line is that Melvin and Roenicke should bear the brunt of fans unhappiness with their poor roster composition and poor utilization of the talent. Personally, I give younger guys more slack and rehashed vets a lot of grief and at this point we don't have many gritty vets to worry about right now. At some point DM and RR will be held accountable for their performances, but we may be outside our window of competitiveness before that happens...

I don't know if there's much to say about the awards this year. Some surprises, but nothing totally out of left field. I think Argo is a little slight for a BP winner, but it's well crafted, smart, entertaining, and non-controversial and it's easy to see why a consensus emerged for it. I don't have any horse in the race as I stopped going to movie theaters several years ago (I see everything on DVD or streaming or on cable) so I can't really comment on the winners. I can see the argument for Argo, I am just so tired of the whole Affleck as a victim BS running around. Kathryn Bigelow wasn't nominated as a Director for a BP nominated film that I have heard from several respected film reviewers was better than Argo. I haven't seen the same angst and posturing from her camp. Was there a single academy member that Affleck didn't call and beg them to vote for Argo? As for the show. Egads when will the producers realize musicals have gone the way of the dodo and stop putting in hours of dance and music numbers in the show. By hour 2 I was done with the telecast. When award winners have to scream out the list of thanks before they are cut off so that we can see Harry Potter dance or Charlize theron/tatum do a number is really not must-watch TV. I loved the tribute to James Bond music and thought it was great, especially the Shirley Bassey performance (now theres a musician that doesn't need the crutches of a recorded performance to lipsync). But there wasn't as much bond music as there should have been. Also, who needs a 20 minute standup routine from the host? Seriously is this an oscar show or a Seth McFarlane career vehicle? Cut the show back to 2 hours. Eliminate all the friggin song and dance BS and do a better job selecting presenters. So glad we didn't have another round of pre-pubescent presenters nobody other than the 13YO girls have heard of, but I either want a video blocker so I never see Kristin Stewart again or they should just skip the weirdo in the future. There is always going to be an issue with different demographics driving the show so either decide on which one you want to accommodate (old hollywood or the MTV awards generation) and stick to it - splitting the difference is just not doing it. Also, revamping the categories needs to happen. While years ago costumes and design were critical, CGI and special effects are now instrumental. Bring back some of the technical awards and jettison the costumes and designers and if you are going to have an off-site awards for a bunch of the more technical categories it's fine to show a recap, but WHY bring them out for another round of applause and time sucking. Can we also stop with the host(s) as cheerleaders with their clapping like chimps after everything to get the audience to respond. That could easily knock 10 minutes off the show....

I'd recommend a linksys E3200 dual band wifi router and if you need it a RE1000 range extender (also from linksys). Have a 2000 foot ranch house built in 1925 (with plaster and real wood reducing the signal) and i get the best coverage with the linksys, but need an extender because my access ppoint is in a corner. I have had Dlink, netgear, and linksys in the last few years and have been happy with both dlink and linksys. I returned the netgear as it performed worse than either of the other two.

Narveson article... Brewers 2013 starting rotation
xisxisxis replied to monty57's topic in Milwaukee Brewers Talk
This is very disingenuous. His last 2 healthy years are 1.6 WAR and 1.8 WAR and they are both partial seasons. He is exactly league average. If he were a FA he would get a raise and a substantial one. You do know that 1.6 and 1.8 are less than 2 and hence the term "below" average applies. I get your defense of Narveson. I get your defense of Manny Parra. You've clearly gone out on a limb to pimp both of them and you need to back that stance up no matter what the data shows. Clearly numbers don't lie and while adjectives can be open to argumentation, the bottom line is that doesn't make it true in the world we occupy together. Narveson started 28 games in 2010 and 2011. Exactly what you'd expect for a 5th starter so "partial seasons" just ain't genuine... -
Down goes Gamel [Knee reinjured, out for 2013 season]
xisxisxis replied to pogokat's topic in Milwaukee Brewers Talk
You need to take another look. Halton's career numbers: .294/.352/.448. That's an .800 OPS on the nose. I know very well what Halton's numbers are. I looked them up. I also looked up his home/ road splits for last year in the PCL (a notorious hitters league) where Halton had coors field like splits except in reverse (monster away, career like home). So I discount his performance last year as being driven by some very good numbers in some very hitter friendly parks (how did that Christian Guerrero guy turn out after inflated high desert performance, or Dave krynzel, or any other brewer prospect who had a great year at high desert and never again). Halton has 40 HR in 4 milb seasons, Morris has 57 in 3 and has yet to feast on PCL parks. That's more than 40% more HR in 1 less year than Halton. There's very little in Halton's numbers that predict success in the majors. In fact they scream organizational filler. -
This entire process has just proven that journalists have no integrity left and that ESPN should die in a fire for being grubby little rating whores. That's a broad generalization to say journalists have no integrity. It's clear some don't and given the explosion of outlets of information provided by the internet it's clear you won't have the same standards across the board. In the most recent Biogenesis issue it was clear that the New Times was acting responsibly and they are an old fashioned media outlet while the internet only company clearly lacks journalistic integrity.

xisxisxis replied to pogokat's topic in Milwaukee Brewers Talk
it's just not the brewers style to rush a prospect, especially if it means skipping a level. While in general that is true, they do make exceptions such as JJ Hardy and Jean Segura where they had really no other option. Tyler Thornburg was brought up from AA and only went to AAA after being sent down when our SP was decimated last year. So there is precedent during Melvin's tenure or "rushing" a prospect if there aren't other options. The current 1B situation looks like a no other option scenario. -
Narveson article... Brewers 2013 starting rotation
xisxisxis replied to monty57's topic in Milwaukee Brewers Talk
Narveson is a super cheap Super cheap would be minimum salary. At >$800K he's no longer super. league average pitcher League average pitcher is a War of ~2. Narveson has average a WAR of 1.2 the last 3 years (ignoring last year). So he's below league average. albeit with a recent injury which could derail that, And the strongest predictor for future injury is past injury so he is a risk to miss significant time if his shoulder makes it through spring training. but that is still a rare commodity. Cheap, below average starters with a major shoulder injury, 3-4 years past their peak year and with a consistent regression each year is hardly a rare commodity.... -

xisxisxis replied to pogokat's topic in Milwaukee Brewers Talk
Halton has been brought up by several posters. Unfortunately a sub .800 ops in the minors doesn't scream major league regular. Morris grades better than halton across the board with he exception of obp and that could take a drop at the MLB level when pitchers realize he isnt a power threat. Even though Morris is 1 level behind he is higher on the depth chart than Halton. -

I think people are really underrating Khris Davis. Same reason Mike Fiers (who has also suceeded at every level) is overlooked. Neither is a darling of the prospect raters. At some point production trumps ceiling.... I actually think Morris should be given the first shot at the 1B job with Davis as a platoon partner for Aoki and backup at 1B. Davis is a LF by training so he can back up Braun for his 10-15 missed games. See what Davis has this year in limited/split advantage situations to see what his role might be for a corner OF spot in 2014. -
when asked why he wasn't playing in that dumb-ass World Baseball Classic. i personally rank the WBC slightly less interesting than a cricket test match. And i tried to patent a 24 hour cricket channel as a cure for insomnia. i'd rather pay for tickets to a lady gaga concert, have her cancel the show, and have ticketmaster keep my children that i gave them as a deposit on the event fee than pay for a WBC game ticket. i'd rather watch an entire Downton Abbey marathon than any of the WBC. personally i don't want any Brewers players playing in the WBC and have no interest in following their play at all. Want to represent your country? Here's a military style assault rifle for you to shoot [redacted]. good luck..... so what am i saying? is there anyone less interested in the WBC than me? i need to know.... Edited by hawing. C'mon, make nicer with the language.

GenoSeligPrieb Back In The House!
xisxisxis replied to GenoSeligPrieb's topic in Milwaukee Brewers Talk
WELCOME BACK GENO! I'd give you a big bear hug if I could, but you'll have to make do with the cyber equivalent... My first regular post is about 2 issues that have been bothering me for a while lately Being a Raider and a Brewers fan you must have a ton of issues, Heck you must get punched in the nads more than twice a day... First, let's start with Roenicke. i'm with ya if it's for showing people the door. I can imagine if I was the last of Mike Scioscia's lieutenants to get a gig And coming to a team where they fired their manager in a playoff race that I might be a little concerned about my job security. Maybe RR doesn't want to piss off other teams in the hopes they might hire him after the brewers relieve themselves of his services. Could he just be so nice that he wants to finish last rather than protect his players? Maybe he's ahead of the curve with his sabermetrics and doesn't want to give the other team a free ride, but if he actually understood sabermetrics he wouldn't be bunting in the first inning.... D'oh..... I also never saw where any reporter asked Attanasio why the fans are basically being punished for not filling the stadium every game last year to watch K-Rod and Axford ruin our season, with a much-lower payroll. One of the great benefits of owning the Brewers is a media group thankful for any little piece of info that the team gives them that they don't want to piss them off. Or maybe they've bought into the same line that a majority of the fan base has that milwaukee should just be thankfull they have a team and they don't rock the boat. i think the ownership group is not happy that they didn't get a dividend check last year on their investment. So they don't want another year like that so the payroll has to go down. After all, many of the ownership group are carryovers from the Selig days and while they may have believed WSP, ABS, and LP that owners don't make money, they have been getting great returns during the Attaturk years and have become used to a nice dividend check every year. As long as the fans are clueless, the media is just looking to continue there symbiotic relationship and the other owners want to have Mark's love child there won't be any difficult questions asked as the Brinks trucks haul the money out of the fans pockets to parts unknown.... -
He can't talk about the case from last year. But he isn't prevented from talking at all--or from clearing up doubts that exist about who he is right now. Jim, how do we know he is free to talk about any issues arising from his PED case from last year. One thing that has always concerned me is did te leak sign a confidentiality agreement. If so, I would imagine Braun would go after him legally. if not, his lawyers screwed up. I can imagine in either case there may be reasons for not pursuing anything or keeping quiet. In the former case it is possible that Braun knew it was Bosch and told MLB as much or they assisted with the investigation (mostly to clear themselves). MLB might be watching Bosch and asked Braun to not go after him as Bosch would take cover and hide his tracks in his other dealings. in the latter case, if his lawyers didnt get a CA or wrote a poor CA they would have a lot to explain. in that case, they most likely would have discounted Braun's costs for him signing an agreement to keep all of the information regarding the leak confidential ( as well as the agreement). The last thing lawyers want is an important client to point out they screwed up one of the most basic issues. So I can see at least 2 issues where Braun has a gag on speaking that has nothing to do with his innocence.

You guys who think Law is just being biased against the Brewers are ridiculous, what he's saying is spot on. There are a lot of mid to back of the rotation starters and maybe a couple of starters on the position player side but there is no monster upside potential superstar like a Braun or a Trout in the system. Well no player has ever put together the same rookie campaign as Trout so I can easily say no team in baseball has a trout in their minor leagues right now. Also Braun has already had 1 MVP, was 2nd and is putting up hall of fame numbers. Not many teams have a prospect that projects as Hall of fame so, yeah, the Brewers don't have a Braun, but neither do most of the other teams. I think most of the people take issue with the 29th position and look for things to complain in his analysis. Overall, I wouldn't rank the Brewers system lower than the Giants, Phillies, Tigers, Rockies or White Sox. That would put the Brewers at 24th. I would also rank the Indians below the Brewers because they have a poor reputation for getting average major league talent out of their prospects. In fact the Indians look to be the Brewers of the 90's and until some of their talent sticks and isn't crap, they will get dinged by me. I think there's a lot of similarity in the A's, Brewers, and Braves systems, but I don't think you can argue they are clearly worse than the Brewers. I am fine with a 23rd ranking. Now 23rd is a good 25% from 29th and ain't spot on in my book.

Impressions of Seid thus far
xisxisxis replied to sveumrules's topic in MLB Draft & International Signings
If he doesn't work out it's not because the Brewers were conservative. I wonder how much of the blame is due to poor player development. It just seems like some organizations can turn many players into gold. For example, the Cards just keep producing talent for the MLB team, yet they often draft in the lower third and don't have ton's of supplemental picks. Yet they never seem to have a shortage of players to add to the major league roster. Just like Dave Duncan seems to be able to make any pitcher into Cy Young, it seems the Cardinals have the ability to identify and correct player weaknesses much better than other organizations. It just seems that there isn't a lot of player development success in the Brewer system. We either seem to hit on a player right away or the player just never puts it together.
