  1. Did he fly in on a crop duster? Because that's a lot of fertilizer he's delivering....
  2. Who would have thought that Tyler Thornberg would make us wish Fiers was still pitching......
  3. If you wear the blindfold for the entire game you get a free ticket to a future game. Future game this year or can you defer it to when they have a team that doesn't suck? How about replacing the large video board with 15 smaller (5 x 3) where the other baseball games are shown so fans attending the game can watch good baseball. Your 2016 to 2020 Milwaukee Brewers, come see some of the best teams in baseball play in Miller Park.....
  4. They nail it... Yes they did. And so did a few at Brewerfan like TheCrew07, but instead of listening, the vast majority of Brewer fans here just got a new prescription for their Brewers Goggles so they could ignore the clear signs that the current strategy was/is an utter failure. I gave up on this organization many years ago. With Mark Attanasio as the lead decision maker, this organization will NEVER put into place the people needed to succeed in the smallest market in baseball. MA's major desire has been to generate millions in cash flow for the ownership group. While he has brought the payroll to record levels it's because he still has profit and he does want to make $11M in revenue from a $10M signing of Kyle Lohse, otherwise he wouldn't do it. His verbiage about losing a draft pick is just the PR spin to make the few that question that signing think "oh yeah that makes sense". Attanausea knows that a full rebuild kills the revenue stream and leads to poor margins. Unfortunately it looks like he will be forced into that situation soon, but I have full faith he will get that GM who can get his cash flow into the positive and lucky for us that means a team that is winning. Unfortunately, he will have replaced one Frankenstein of roster creation for another Frankenstein of roster creation and while those dead parts seem to work together, they won't lead to anything resembling a championship roster. Hip Hip Hooray for the next Cash Flow GM......
  5. http://gm-cdn.gamezebo.netdna-cdn.com/wp-content/uploads/2015/04/magic8.jpg Logs smarter than RR, and easily smarter than any manager Doug Melvin would hire.
  6. I have a feeling the Bucks will win ANOTHER championship before the Brewers win their first...
  7. I think it is also hard to determine how many times conservative base running teams lose runs but never gets noticed. If Gomez gets thrown out at third because he was over aggressive we see it. If a conservative base runner stays at second when they could made it to third it doesn't get counted as a mistake. Yet it really is equally bad base running Absolutely wrong. Any out is way worse than any non-out. 1) the drop in scoring chances from a runner on 3B and X outs vs runner on 2B with X outs is way better than runner on 2B with Y outs and NO RUNNER at all with Y+1 outs. 2) Based on lengthy analysis, a Caught Stealing negates 2 SB or simply making an out takes away 2 bases so a runner being conservative and not taking an extra base only equates to half an out. Not at all equal.
  8. I've never really heard Ryan Braun make excuses for anything, I think that may be a bit harsh... So you missed the Spring Training Extravaganza where he threw the tester under the bus, backed up again, drove over him again, backed up, etc. until the sound of beep beep beep seemed like it was echoing across the phoenix valley because it wouldn't stop. Yeah Braunie is that high character person who never makes excuses.....
  9. Save your money and use uber and mass transit. Take $3000 of your money and invest it in an ETF like UWTI or UGAZ. Before you use $3000 on uber or mass transit the ETF will double or triple.
  10. It's November 20th, 2014. We have over 3 months until we even report to spring training. Looks like Melvin may want the rest of the winter off...... From mlb.com on November 14, 2014: another clue from the same article: I have no doubt Dougie's brain actually made that logic leap. 'Yeah the royals stood pat last year and look what happened to them so if we stay pat then bingo, world series, aye......'
  11. Last year we had 2 SS playing first base. This year we have 2 1B that hit like shortstops. Sounds like Progress!
  12. It was claimed by several that Yuni was kept around because he was a great clubhouse guy and he could mentor the younger latin players like Segura. Maybe Yuni finally did rub off on Jean, more specifically Yuni's crappyness rubbed off on Segura....
  13. I can't shake the feeling that if KRod v3 is any good then doug will be all over Yuni v3....
  14. Well the Grand Conspiracy against the Brewers Farm System continues.... BaseballProspectus has ZERO brewer prospects in their top 101. Given they have 101 compared to Law's 100 they are slightly more pessimistic about the Brewers prospects. Let the name calling and criticism of BP commence....
  15. . . . Lilly: 12.8 or 3.2/year Yikes. Lilly doesn't belong in that group as the WAR numbers indicate. Spending $4M/WAR in FA is pretty good. Is Greinke going to average 6 WAR for the lifetime of his contract (he's only had a WARP above 6 once so far)? What about Sabathia who needs to average 6 also (and has never had a season of WARP=6)? Bottom Line is Lilly was a slam dunk winning deal at 4yrs/$40million. For perspective, Garza would need to have an average WAR of 3.125 over the 4 years of the guaranteed contract to be as cost effective as Lilly (given inflation, maybe 2.5 is a better average WAR needed to be equivalent to Lilly). Now who wants to take the over on a total of 10 WARP as Garza's numbers the next 4 years?
  16. The lack of homegrown players is what causes signings like this. In essence, I feel like Melvin and Mark A continue to build this team on a house of cards through backloaded deals and pricey pitching that they really can't afford, a foundation which is bound to collapse at some point. It's a focus entirely on the now and maximizing the current years revenues without a real plan for the future. Given we are this far into the Melvin years and we still have an abysmal scouting and player development record is just mind boggling. It's one thing to have loyalty to those you have hired, but when that loyalty masks abysmal performance than the only hope to change course is if we lynch the captain.... In my profession, there are the big players who have most of the resources. One of the leaders in the field, who is well regarded, has a sign up at his lab that says "we don't have the resources of the ______ so we have to be smarter". Even though he has a great reputation for doing good work he reminds his people every day that the mission is to be smarter if they are to succeed. What irks me about the Brewers is that they don't even have a clear idea that they need to be smarter....
  17. Judging a three year deal on the team record of the first year of that deal seems premature. So you don't like the idea of a message forum that discusses issues of the day, you want us only to discuss things where all of the data is in and any contract has run it's course. In that case we might as well shut down brewerfan.net since 99.9% of the discussions are about topics that are still "active" by your definition. It's ok to disagree with the conclusion at this point, but it is hardly premature to discuss the merits of a deal today as it was when there were thousands of posts at the time of the signing and throughout last year. If the team ends up winning a pennant this season is that deal still bad? So you got some money down on the brewers taking the pennant? If we go by your rules shouldn't we be discussing this after the end of the year and even then we are only 2/3rds into the Lohse deal.... Attanasio thinks he's a GM like any good micromanaging leader. So far his likes in pitchers is clearly the conclusions that are drawn by the average fan with little knowledge of baseball. It's his money so if he wants to play monopoly with the team I guess he can. Personally I just don't want to hear how the drop in attendance is hurting the bottom line when the Brewers fans are at the top of the pile in $ support per capita. A meddling owner that blames the fans (Selig/Prieb) is one thing while a meddling owner who blames himself if those bad decisions hurt the team is another. Jury is still out on Attaturk...
  18. Well if the Brewers medical staff found the tear before he signed then it must be the size of the grand canyon. I doubt there will be any insurance company willing to touch insurance on him without a huge cost. If you're going to pay Garza $13M per season for about 1 WARP and another $6.5M in insurance you might as well move on....
  19. 1) consider a Samsung laptop with ssd hard drive. I bought one 7 months ago and it is fantastic, light and fast. I can run multiple Virtual machines using vmware and they perform like it's a native OS. Only problem is it came with win8 and I am planning on downgrading to win7 shortly. For the amount of savings you have buying a windows pc vs a mac you can buy vmware workstation and mac os and save money. 2) don't touch office365. I installed it on 2 desktops and it significantly slowed them down even when none of the applications was running. Un installed and both machines returned to normal.
  20. Notice how quickly Kozma was replaced this offseason? Good teams address their weaknesses before Doug Melvin is over his winter hibernation. ...
  21. We're eyeing Michael Young That is the perfect Doug Melvin move. A (s)crappy vet who will get more playing time than he deserves.... given what we got out of 1B last year this would be an improvement, but *just* an improvement...
  22. Safeco is where power hitters go to die.... throw in a 8-9 games in oakland plus anaheim and you got a good 90 in extreme pitchers and another 8 in a pitchers park.... good luck with that Corey.....
  23. So a 6-year extension signed today that buys out all 3 arbitration years and two free agency years should probably be in the $120-140 million range. Trout makes almost nothing now so it might be wise for both parties to get a deal done sooner rather than later. Trout and his agent were extremely unhappy when the Angels renewed his contract last year basically at the minimum. The Angels aren't going to get anything from Trout as a discount, they will have to come up with market type numbers. So to get him signed for 4 years (1 minimum plus 3 arby years) is gonna cost at least $115M alone as his arbitration years he will likely be paid as the highest player in the game (so at least $35M per season). He's also not going to give them any free agent years unless they are in the $50M per season range. The Angels are getting no discount and the way they have thrown away money on aging stars Trout shouldn't give them a dime discount. I don't see anything short of $225M for Trout to sign for 6 years. He has the numbers and talent to be paid as the best player in baseball as he is clearly a once in a lifetime talent.
  24. The GM handbook circa 1977 clearly states that you have to have at least 1 LH starting pitcher. Dougie's just doin' what he knows.....
