  1. Why not insure a run by having Rickie on 3rd with 1 out than on 2nd with 1 out? The Brewers could have the bases loaded with no outs and a 3-0 count to the batter and not score a run.
  2. Couldn't Escobar move to 2B? Keeping Hardy at SS. How about Escobar at SS and Hardy on any other team. Seems we've had several threads moaning about Weeks and Bill Hall's performance, yet JJs crapitude goes unnoticed.
  3. reading this makes me think of how Brewer nation may be a little too high on CV and in a way Parra. CV's first 2 starts were very good. A bulk of the runs scored on him in those 2 games (5 out of 6) came in the last inning of work when Nedly pulled his patented leaving the starting pitcher in too long move. His third start wasn't good and so far tonight he has another very good start through 7. I'm pretty happy with a starter that can give you 3/4th of there starts are good to very good. So I think you're letting one bad start and Yost's mismanagement cloud your judgement of CV. As far as Parra goes, I agree he's not looked as sharp in 2 of his 3 starts, but neither has Dave Boosh. So I can see Parra going down when Sheets returns sometime in July, but I think Carlos has done what he needs to do as a starter.
  4. We were talking about it in the chat a little. FSN had Gagne living around 89-90 and topping out at 92 on the last pitch I believe. I don't think FSN has a gun. They just pay a HS student minimum wage to hold up a cardboard cutout of a gun and to guess at the speed.
  5. What has Joe Girardi done? He's a career 5 games below .500 (noted it's only been a year essentially). Ned Yost is 61 games below 500 in 5 full years of managing, or an average of more than 12 games below 500 per season. Girardi's Marlins were 6 games below 500 in his only season, which is "clearly" better than Ned. Joe Girardi is on my list of managers clearly worse than Yost. Yeah he has that better winning %, which is clearly a bad sign ...... Judging managers is 100% subjective. How come it's subjective when you point out things that are negative about nedly and "concrete" when you point out things for Ned?
  6. I am still waiting for somebody to point out a manager who is clearly better than Yost. Manny Acta Bud Black Bruce Bochy Bobby Cox Terry Francona Rod Gardenhire John Gibbons Joe Girardi Tony LaRussa Jim Leyland Charlie Manuel Mike Scioscia Joe Torre Ron Washington Eric Wedge Borderline: Fredi Gonzalez Ozzie Guillen
  7. Obviously the strategy to wear out the Cardinals in the 1st seems to be working. Now if the Brewers aren't No-Hit there still is a chance.
  8. Might as well bench Fielder, Hall, Hardy, and Weeks then too. My question is why does Hardy get a free ride. Outside of 3 months over the last 3+ years he's been downright horrible on offense and his defense is hardly worth writing home about. It's time we seriously look into replacing his mediocre butt.
  9. Ned Yost continues to leave his starting pitchers in too long. I believe it's already 6 games this year where the starter was left in too long and gave up several runs right before being removed. Thankfully we've won most of those games (IIRC 5), but it's clear that as long as he keeps it up it will come back to haunt us.....
  10. This deal is great compared to paying a ton of money to sign Morneau and Cuddyear long-term.
  11. You could still have trade bait with either Bush and/or Capuano, and actually have your best pitchers pitching from the beginning of the season in what one would hope would be a season that ends with a post season. Most seasons have a postseason. Just not with the Brewers in it. http://forum.brewerfan.net/images/smilies/wink.gif I like that we are 3 deep in the rotation. Come spring training somebody will come up with soreness, or get banged up and hopefully not anything worse. I doubt we break camp without one of the 8 possible starters on the DL. If we are lucky to have all 8 healthy, Parra goes to AAA, and Dougy get's the best deal for either Bush, Capuano, and Vargas. If we get a stud prospect giving up Bush or Capuano to a contender that loses a SP or 2 or Kansas City or Seattle because they like to overpay, I would rather take the better deal and keep Vargas for long relief than to simply dump Vargas to clear space. We are definitely positioned to be a seller in a marker where the demand heats up as injuries begin to pile up.
  12. I have felt for a long time that MLB umps are the least professional of all the major sports officials. It seems as if they take pleasure in arguing with managers and players and relish the idea of throwing guys out of games. NFL officials don't seem to have the ego problem that baseball umps (and to a lesser degree NBA refs) do. I think that is a perception based on MLB rules than with the Umps. Baseball has a long history of allowing managers and players to argue with the umps. They also have no penalty other than throwing a guy out of the game when a player/manager crosses a pretty extreme line. If an ump could throw a flag or signal a technical foul on a player/manager and either take away or add an out, I bet you'd see a lot less childish arguments from managers and players. If you allow them to do almost anything before tossing them you encourage excess behavior which the NBA, NFL and NHL deal with by lesser penalties than tossing from a game.
  13. EAST Mets (1) Phillies (3) Braves (8) Marlins (13) Nationals (16) CENTRAL Brewers (4) Cubs (7) Reds (9) Astros (11) Pirates (12) Cardinals (15) WEST Padres (2) Dodgers (5) Diamondbacks (6) Rockies (10) Giants (14) Diamondbacks - This was a sub .500 team last year and even with the Haren upgrade they'll have problems competing in that division this year. The Dbacks were 90-72 last year and tied for the division lead. You can think they were a sub .500 team because of pythogorean W/L but that's an opinion, 90-72 is fact.
  14. I sense something in the works for Melvin, as his comments and approach to the bullpen situation just seems a little too lackadasical for it not to be GM-speak. I agree. I don't think he sees the future in the bullpen of any of our surplus starters, he sees them as trade chips to get the bullpen arms we need.
  15. This team already has more wins than the 2004 Brewers. Are you telling me that doesn't impress you to the point of being blown right out of your computer chair? Show some appreciation, you ungrateful creep! You are definitely moderator material Doug.
  16. If this team somehow finishes 83-79, it was a successful year. Incredibly disappointing yes, but still successful, no spin needed. If they finish 81-81 is that a successful year?
  17. they had better win one of these remaining games...man, this hurts to watch I would prefer if they didn't so the Brewers can't spin this as a successful year.
  18. We are only 2 games back with 3 to play. It isn't that crazy for the Cubs to lose 2 of 3 from the Reds. The Brewers could possibly win the next 3 to force a one-game playoff if they have enough left in them to overcome Ned's poor decisions. I don't give it much hope, but we still have a slim chance. If the Reds and Padres would only cooperate.
  19. I don't think JJ Hardy e.g., has Ned on his myspace buddies list, -- but of course that is only my speculation. I'm still confused by all the claims that the players like Ned so he's obviously a good manager. You don't have to like your manager to respect him. I've had 2 "bosses" in the last 9 years. The first, I liked quite a bit personally and had similar experiences. I don't personally get along with the second nor do we have similar senses of humor, etc. The first never helped me get my job done or put me in a position to succeed. The second helps me and puts me in a position to succeed more in a few months than 8 years from the first boss. My job satisfaction is much better under the new boss, I'm having better success, but I don't like my new boss personally nor do I really enjoy working with him. For me, the second boss is better because I'm better at my job. I don't have to like my boss to appreciate what he brings to the table and I don't understand why I have to like my boss to perform better. Personal experience for me is that I perform better with the boss who helps me succeed and not the one I like better. It's great if you have both, but it doesn't mean that if I like my boss he's better than a boss I don't like.
  20. I don't like the idea of trading Sheets to address the bullpen issue as it creates another hole. MassBrew mentioned the Marlins pen last night in the IGT. They have several hard throwing young guys. I've liked Logan Kensing for awhile. He has good peripherals and he throws hard, but was hurt for most of this year. I doubt he would cost much in terms of players to get from the Marlins. If Doug offered a middling prospect and some cash I bet they would jump at the chance (really any body and some cash would probably get it done.) He could slot into the 7th/8th inning lead guy (depending on whether Linebrink stays), but has the potential to close in a few years. I'd also look at Jason Fraser from the Jays as a setup man. He'll be 31 next year, but he could come relatively cheap and he's more reliable than Wise or Turnbow. He's not a huge breakout possibility, but he'd probably be a cheap acquisition.
  21. Putting in a pitcher who "lacks command" to pitch to Pujols is also the best cover for claiming you weren't intentionally trying to hit their batter. You put Suppan in to pitch to Pujols and he hits him then there is NO doubt you were trying to hit the guy. If you put in McClung you have cover. Turnbow was already warming up. Either Nedly knew McClung would get into trouble or he had no faith in him. One option makes our manager dumb the other makes him the stupidest manager on the planet. Neither is defensible behind by 1 run in the eight inning of a season that is slipping away.
  22. Nice to see the attitude when you're the "genius" who wasn't aware of the availability of Parra. I'm sorry you have such a big cross to bear, but last I recall nobody is here posting as part of their sentence and anyone is free to come and go. Don't let the door hit you on the way out if a little negativity tortures your frail constitution.
  23. We were down one run entering the 8th. We didn't score in the 8th or the 9th. 24. I think we need to upgrade to a vent forum. We've got way too much to vent for a single thread....
