New forum subject (Brian)
xisxisxis replied to BrewCrewKid's topic in Brewer Fanatic Issues & Suggestions
The stats forum is a way to archive past statistical related threads and have stat questions answered. I think (hope) it serves a useful purpose. It sure does, it keeps the 2006 June Draft forum from crashing into the Brewerfan.net Softball forum. It would be neat to have a "Hash-re-Hash" thread where people could have endless and ongoing debates about the same topics, seperate of course from the MLB thread -- We already have the Major League Forum where every thread appears to be a rehash of the same thing. Maybe Brian could just change the name of the Major League Forum to Beating a Dead Horse Forum -

Will you guys stop with all this Corey Hart Love allready. I mean a 7 game hit streak and 3 HR's? . . . .So what? But he only had 1RBI today! Why can't he inspire others to get on base in front of him. Corey seems to thrive on regular playing time, but he doesn't seem very explosive/flashy. He reminds me of Jeff Kent and Bobby Abreau, not in production or potential, but if you watch those guys then look at there stats you wonder how did they do so well. They never seem to have those huge games, but are consistantly good. I think Corey will be the same, consistantly good, but with few super games. -
what happened to geno?
xisxisxis replied to HonoluluBrew's topic in Brewer Fanatic Issues & Suggestions
I wouldn't be surprised if he's just spending more time being a dad. That's why you get a big screen TV and cable. Hours of entertainment with minimal supervision. Geno should be typing his finger's off at the keyboard. -

Huntsville's own words: I have withdrawn from this site in protest Well if you wan't to believe everything you read......http://forum.brewerfan.net/images/smilies/grin.gif I'm not going to beg anyone to stick around. I agree and I hope you didn't get the impression from my posts that is what I expected. Did you think I was being mean and calling HF an "enemy"? I wasn't. No I didn't think that, my comments were more generalizations. I'd prefer that if people are so put off by something that they want to leave they first contact a staff member and try to hammer out problems. Understood. I think that sometimes if the issue involves a moderator, some posters may feel intimidated because their may be a defensive reaction from others at brewerfan.net. I think huntsvillefan felt that the moderators were circling the wagons (I won't agree or disagree with whether that was the case, because I haven't reread the whole "incident"). Unfortunately, each situation is different and there isn't a manual to figure out the right course of action on how best to handle it. -

I'm suggesting that if you're going to make a protest, then do it right. Leave. Don't post, and protect your fragile, flower like state by not even looking at the site. I never got the impression that huntsvillefan's intentions were a protest. I see his assertion simply as he feels extremely strongly about this issue to the point he doesn't wish to participate in the dialog at Brewerfan. I actually think it's a good thing that you know WHY he might disappear. While I think Brewerfan.net is a great site for Brewer fans there are ways in which the forums can be improved. I really believe it's in your best interest to at least understand and know why a longtime poster feels so strongly about a BF.net policy that they don't wish to participate at the site, You don't have to agree with it, you don't have to do anything about it, but you might learn from it. No offense intended, but you wanted opinions, and I gave mine. I'd prefer you stay a member of the site, but like I said; if this place is that terrible, don't even read what we say. Jamie, people can agree on 1,000 different things, but differ on 1 crtical issue that makes it impossible to come to common ground simply because of that one issue. People can differ in many ways and disagree on many things, but ultimately come to agreement with each other because they agree on the big issues. I think too often people believe that you have to agree on everything or you're an "enemy". I don't think life is that black and white. That way, you don't have to start another thread like this. I'm not sure what you mean. You'd prefer if he didn't start a thread like this or it would be better for him if he hadn't started a thread like this? Who is it better for, you/brewerfan or him? -

While I understand your position huntsvillefan, I think a mutually agreable middle ground would be difficult to accomplish in an open forum considering one of the parties involved is a moderator. While I don't think there would be a concious change in opinions, I do think there could be a subconcious effect on how this would be handled than if the situation was between any 2 posters. Maybe through email or ezboard message system a suitable resolution could be worked out. -
Link Report for Games of Sunday, June 11th
xisxisxis replied to Jim Goulart's topic in Brewers Minor League Talk
Actually on due consideration, save yourself the trouble, I'll ban myself. Well I hope that isn't the case since I do enjoy your insight. Unfortunately you fall into a group of people who are somewhat critical of the Brewers organization and criticism of the Brewers organization is not really popular to many here. I don't think it's a personal attack on you any more than it would be on me or anyone else who dares to question an organization with a track record as abysmal as the Brewers. I hope you calm down enough to just ignore some of the fundamentalism when it comes to criticism of the Brewers. The number of people who don't simply support everything the Brewers do or say are dwindling and not, unfortunately, because of the Brewers record. -

Jenkins is obviously struggling but do we need 10 posts about how much he SUXS every time he Ks? Ten? No. One might be nice, 2 would be good if you missed the first, 3 would be funny and 4 would just be repetitive. I think 3 times. -
Draft Pick Discussion Thread, Rounds 6-10

Gregmag, that was completely inappropriate, and quite simply way out of line. Make your argument without blatant personal attacks, please. I think that Greg shouldn't have lost his temper and probably didn't sway anyone's opinion with his rhetoric. He did phrase his post in such a way as to not take a personal attack. -

I trust that the Brewers have done their homework and have consulted the appropriate specialists and concluded that the reward is worth the risk. Hopefully none of those specialists received their training from a medical school in the caribbean. -

Don't you think Bob Melvin has weighed these questions in his head? I'm not sure Bob Melvin really gives that much thought to anything to do with the Brewers minor leagues. -

He came back from labrum surgery? I thought that was like death for a pitchers career. If he survived the labrum injury then being picked by the Brewers should finish off his pitching career. -

Here is a question. If a Lefty has to start with jenkins out(next scheduled LHP is on saturday), do you guys think Hart, or Gross will get the start? You do know that Ned Yost is still the Brewers manager? Gross every time. -

Jack Z surely knows more than I do, I'll be standing by, hoping to eat my words in a few years. I'd keep repeating "Jack Z surely knows more than I do", but I'm afraid I'd be screaming at the top of my lungs by the 10th round. -

Begin the boos.. How about we just do a pool to see when he washes out? That could be more constructive and accurate. I say he lasts 4 seasons before he's not even a third thought for brewer pitching prospects. -
Thank you, Colby! Because, surprise, I don't want to see the Brewers draft a prep pitcher, and your prediction is the kiss of death. There's only 3 things for certain at Brewerfan.net: 1) Clancyphile will move any player to any position to satisfy his current obsession; 2) Any prospect as part of Chris' screen name will flame out faster than John Steitz; 3) The Brewers never draft Colbyjack's favorite round 1 pick. http://forum.brewerfan.net/images/smilies/smile.gif I haven't had a chance to enjoy the coverage as much this year which is too bad because Patrick has done a wonderful job. Enjoy draft day. Here's to a college pitcher in Round 1!

I realize that fact-checking is hard, but there's a pretty glaring contradiction there.... You have to pay for the content that has fact checking. What do you expect for free!!!???!! http://forum.brewerfan.net/images/smilies/wink.gif -
First of all, the Cubs? If the Cubs were a talent machine like the Braves, they wouldn't be so "cursed." Well the Cubs have developed some nice pitchers over the last few years, except most of them don't pitch (or for them). I won't touch Prior because he fell in their lap ala Rickie Weeks, but Zambrano, Willis, Sergio Mitre, Sean Marshall, and Ricky Nolasco is not a bad set of 5 pitchers to have "developed" over the last 5 years. I think that would be 5 more than the Brewers. If only we were that "cursed." Eveland was rushed? Maybe last year's callup was a little hasty, but I don't think he was rushed. So you think Dana is going to stay a 1ER/inning, 2+ WHIP pitcher? Has Dana dominated for a year in any upper level league? I wouldn't be so critical if he hasn't looked so abysmal in the majors. He probably will be just fine, but I don't see what benefit either he or the Brewers have from his pitching in the majors the last 2 years. I know you like him, but his numbers make me fond for the days of Wayne Franklin and Wes Obermuelller. Maybe the light will go on and he'll look like a major league pitcher tomorrow, until then I'd rather have him in Nashville. I'll give you the pitchers, as we're really hanging onto Gallardo and Inman (and Rogers), who are Jack Z's most recent, early prep picks. However, I have always been impressed with the Fielder selection because he went with the best hitter. While hitting (and power) are tools, he wasn't going for that toolsy outfielder (like Krynzel, or even Cameron Maybin), as Fielder was questioned for everything outside of his hitting prowess. I admit I was wrong on Fielder as he looks like he'll be a special hitter and it is hard to see more than 2 tools from Prince. And since Krynzel Jack has been less in love with the tools prospects, but a Chase Utley, Boof Bonser, or Adam Wainright would look a whole lot better right now. Hindsight is 20/20 but I wish the Josh Murrays of the world were picked by some other organization and maybe Jack Z and the Brewers are making an effort to look for results in addition to tools. Time will tell.

I may be on board with you if you're talking solely about the first round, but after that you better back yourself up better than that if you want me jumping on your bandwagon. I'm sure you don't want to jump on my bandwagon because if I was running the Brewers organization we wouldn't have a winning season since 2000. Oh wait..... http://forum.brewerfan.net/images/smilies/wink.gif I wasn't really serious about avoiding all HS pitchers, I would tend to grade them lower than a similar college pitcher if that college pitcher was mostly healthy. I think most people are making excellent points so I won't counter them (except for molitorfan's ommission of Rogers WHIP = 2.0, which I'm sure was an accident and not an intential withholding of negative data that would lessen the strength of his argument http://forum.brewerfan.net/images/smilies/smile.gif ). One thing that doesn't/hasn't been discussed is what happens after the player is drafted and how well the organization is doing at maximizing that players realization of their talent. It may be a complete crapshoot, but it seems like some organizations just produce pitchers (Braves, Cubs) and others don't (Brewers, Cards, Royals). Maybe it isn't in the players that are drafted, but it has to do with the player development system of the organization. Maybe the Brewers inability to take HS Pitcher A and turn him into a healthy player who can produce in some role at the major league level is the real problem. The Brewers either have one improbable record of bad luck, or is it possible they have some problems in player development that happens after the draft and before that player implodes at the major league level. Was Manny Parra injured every other week in HS and JC? What happened to that fluid delivery of Mike Jones? Nick Neugebauer and Dana Evelend were rushed too quickly to the majors by 2 different GMs. I don't pretend to know the lower reaches of the Brewers player development staff, but is there a real possibility that there is an organizational need for better people? I don't have the answers, but what if the right players are being drafted and we just don't have the right people in the organization to maximize their potentials. It's funny because most of the guys fewgoodcards mentioned were fire-ballers coming out of college, guys that were known for how hard they threw and not for how well they pitched. The Brewers prep draft picks have the same problems. That's why I always like the guys that show the ability to pitch first and throw hard second. I think this is an excellent point and one reason I shy away from or am less than happy about some of Jack Z's early round picks. For pitchers he seems to over emphasize velocity and for hitters he seems to overemphasize tools. I can understand (not really like, but understand) his desire to go for a HR with the 1st/early round pick(s), but it was my assumption that you have a higher chance of getting a major leaguer out of the early rounds so I would be less inclined to swing for the fences and go with the safer pick early and swing for the fences after the first few rounds. Just my opinion and I could be completely wrong and the Brewers will have that winning season eventually even if I'm not the GM. http://forum.brewerfan.net/images/smilies/happy.gif

Hi, my name is Jack Zduriencik and I'm addicted to high school pitchers. I started my addiction to HS pitchers in 1991 when with the Pittsburgh Pirates. We picked Dave Doorneweerd of Richwood HS, Port Richey, FL in the second round. The tools, the projection, so much promise and so many disappointments. HS pitchers have none of the blemishes of a college pitcher, someone else hasn't owned them. Mike Jones had a perfect delivery. Not a flaw in sight, now he's recovering from another injury. Mark Rogers had the most fluid delivery imaginable, too bad he can't find the plate. They are new and special and I can't stop drafting them even when year after year they disappoint me. I can't stop no matter how many times I've been hooked on the drug with no name. I'm here today asking for your help and understanding. I know now that it's an illness. I'll make mistakes. I'll draft another HS pitcher again, but I hope through the understanding and support of my family and fans I can put this illness behind me. To show your support for Jack Z, email the Brewers today and tell him to just say "NO" to high school pitchers.

The Brewers should get a nice group discount rate on tickets to Nashville. yeah, but my feelings are Rent-A-Heap would be too good for the lot we'll be sending down. I like what the Twins did to Lohse by sending him down. A 6-year veteran who was pitching like absolute crap was sent down to AAA to ride the buses until he realizes what he needs to do to be a major league pitcher. Well this game is toast. Even a chick-flick would be better than this game. My hats off to anyone who makes it through this game.
