  1. Is this some sort of joke? Nedley hasn't been this creative with a lineup since... well... never. He's never had to setup a lineup outside the continental US. Maybe travel to distant locals is all he needed to get creative.
  2. Beyond that, could be tricky to avoid the frustrating obsolete links. I guess the moderators could handle that, are you available from 3am to 4am every morning Jim to check the links? http://forum.brewerfan.net/images/smilies/wink.gif
  3. First of all, I would like to here a rational explanation for how a player could actually be BETTER as a pinch hitter/utility player. I can appreciate a hitter that pitchers don't know, but it doesn't take that many PA for a team to know how to approach a batter. Unless proven otherwise I completely reject the possibility outright. Many players have huge splits depending on whether they are hitting Left or right handed pitchers. Usually Pinch hitters are in the game because of a favorable matchup with a pitcher and sometimes utility/platoon players are in the game when the pitching matchup favors them. So it isn't entirely impossible for a player to do better in limited time because he is usually only playing when he has a matchup advantage. I am not saying that is the case with Ginter, just that it can happen and does happen. Same reason that platoon players often don't hit as good when they are full-time players because they play against good and bad pitching matchups.
  4. or we could just keep creating a new one of these everyday like we have been for the past 2.5 years... You forgot "Why strikeouts are worse than other outs". It's a good idea in theory, but I think it's pretty rare that there are more than a few posts on any given MLB subject outside of Brewerdom. So you don't want to encourage people to be general baseball fans, just Brewer fans. Maybe if we had discussions about baseball in general we wouldn't spend 99% of our time beating to death the same Brewer topic over and over again. Hey that might just be your form of masochism so I don't wanna tread on your toes Mr "Tommie".
  5. Brad Nelson has been severely over looked. I'm sure it's because he doesn't take enough walks. Really who needs a decent average and high SLG when we only need players that can take walks (note: that was sarcasm). Good to see Brad earning the love again considering his injury and the expectations that he should have been performing at a higher level last year even though he wasn't fully recovered.
  6. I don't think anyone wants to see this bullpen exposing itself... I for one don't want to see any Brewers exposing themselves....... To add on, the bullpen is averaging 3.77 IP per game, which over a full season would require each reliever to pitch close to 90 innings. That is one sign that while the Brewers have been playing great lately we may see some big trouble in the coming months as the pitching staff melts down from overuse.
  7. I enjoy my occasional arguments with David, as we both respect each others' opinions and conduct ourselves in a fact-filled debate, and we know not to take things personally and too seriously. I feel the love Peavey! http://forum.brewerfan.net/images/smilies/laugh.gif
  8. Here are tonight's lineups, brought to you by Spiderman 2. Is Brewerfan now selling ad space?
  9. Don't waste your time with this....even his own signature tells you he thinks the world is all about him. He hasn't had an original idea in years, and specializes in picking apart others thoughts for what he believes is his clever gain. Others see it as a desperate attempt to gain attention....most just ignore. He'll now cut and paste a few words from this post with some critically sarcastic comment and think he's somehow improved his status in life. Wow, you must have been saving up that one for awhile foamy. Seems a little off target since my tagline is less than flattering and makes fun of me. I guess when I'm being self depricating it's just an attempt at getting attention. I only hope to one day be as important as you.
  10. wasnt speaking directly to you was I xis. I dont see your name in my post. Do you? No I don't see my name, but I do see my previous post quoted word for word and then your comments.
  11. if a guy wants to be called sweet lou, then call him that, dont call him soemthing else just cause YOU like it better, its not YOUR nickname. Which part of this: Well I guess he should go by whatever he wants. implies that I think we should call him what we want? I don't particularly like the nickname "Sweet" Lou, but I agree with you that he should be called whatever he wants. I'm quite sure he doesn't care what I think, but that doesn't mean I can't have an opinion.
  12. David, by dissing the Sweet Lou monicker, you're now going to labelled as a stubborn, obstinate, curmudgeony, old schooler who is resistant to change and ideas other than your own. I like that.... ____________________________________________________________________ David, a stubborn, obstinate, curmudgeony, old schooler who is resistant to change and ideas other than his own since 1963.
  13. Well I guess he should go by whatever he wants. Most people under 30 (and probably most from 30-40) don't have a clue who Captain Lou is so I can understand the lack of connection. Sweet Lou? yawn.
  14. Or maybe I've spent too many years reading clancy's post and they don't faze me anymore? I thought that was only possible after surgery. If you've found a non-invasive method you should share it with all of us. I just treat him like the troll he is.
  15. Too bad we have to play the games! Coming into this series so many here thought the Brewers were much better than the Pirates, Reds, Astros, Cardinals, and Cubs. If we didn't have to play the games that would be true. 0-3 for the weekend sucks, but they were in each game to the end, battled like a Yost-bot will battle and were at least entertaining. Unfortunately the luck we had earlier in the season seems to be evening out and we're gonna have to rely on talent for the rest of the year. Still, it's been a long time since I didn't know the outcome when the Brewers went down by 3 and with this team you never know if they'll come back. The results aren't always the best, but at least they're exciting.
  16. Like I said earlier, let's forget waiting till June 1st for Hendrickson (as I've advocated for a long time), because we may not be at .500 then. If we choose to wait, then we might be so far out on June 1st that we'll be forced to say "well, why start their arby clocks now, why not just give them a brief callup in Sept?". If you think the Brewers are 1 pitcher away from contending then you don't appreciate the sorry status of the talent that the Brewers call a pitching staff. There's no reason sacrificing the future to make a poor run at 0.500. I guess in a society that requires instant gratification there's no need to save for tomorrow when we can spend everything today. I hope Melvin is smart enough to realize that winning 1 or 2 more games isn't as important as establishing a strong future for this team and not wasting service time on players when they could be learning in AAA. Neugie is still on the DL and technically is burning up his service time. If he ever makes it back to the majors he'll be arby eligible immediately and what did we get for that privilege? 60IP? Well I have to go, Bestbuy has a sale on plasma TVs, I don't need another 1, but I'd like one for the bathroom. Can't afford it, but I still have some credit limit left on one of my 30 credit cards. I'm trying to hit 5 times my annual salary in debt to see if I'll end up killing myself like that English Bloke.......Who needs to save for tomorrow when I can spend today.
  17. Well, that start was regrettable for one Wesley Mitchell Obermueller. Yost yanked him when he walked the pitcher on 4 balls while he was attempting to sacrifice bunt. That's inexuseable and I'm glad Ned went out there and basically symbolically kicked Wes in the ass. I hope every other marginal player on this team understands that if you F*** up that bad you're gonna hit the showers early and maybe the waiver wire. Sheeesh.
  18. I still use a Windows PC at work in addition to my laptop, but otherwise I'm a strictly Mac guy. That's too bad Batman. I understand the cult fascination of the MAC since I too was a member, but once I was forced to the "dark side" I grew to appreciate that computing on a MAC is like riding a bike with training wheels.
  19. Seems we have a major time problem on the board as some people are posting near the correct time and others seem to have a different time setting. I am posting this at 5:53 Central Time.....others reply to the correct time you are posting (in Central Time). It might help Brian figure out the problem....I bet the posting time will be 2:53am...
  20. but you also can't make it look like Counsell is out of a regular job after a few good performances by an understudy. Sure you can if the understudy is going to be Brewers property for more than 5 months, is younger, has a hell of a lot more upside, and has outhit the gritty vet.
  21. Don't make the second out at home plate!!!!! Yeah that was disappointing Jeff, but this is one awesome comback going down 9-1 then tied at 9 going to the ninth. This is where Ned Yost's rah rah attitude pays off. At least this team never gives up.
  22. In my conversation with Palmisano, Are we going to be treated to an interview article?
  23. I'd imagine that this injury might bring Cincy back to the bottom where they belong... Yeah I guess timely hitting and decent pitching are the signs of a last place team. I wished the Brewers looked that bad, but I guess I'll have to settle for timely hitting.
